There are many things that amaze me in this world.  And, one of the greatest things that has always enchanted me since childhood is motherhood.  There is just so much unspoken purity in the love and sacrifice that mothers put in for their child.  So when I encountered Sweet Delights by Charlotte, I was thrilled with their concept.


You see, I was the second out of five children which my mother breastfed entirely for the first two years of our lives.  My mom, like all mothers, have never shared her postpartum journey.  But, I myself have felt and seen all that she has endured for us.  In order for a mother to be able to give the best for her child, she must be at the best condition she could ever be.  And, that's where the ge lai concept comes in.

On every occasion and even on random days, the family loves to gather to eat, play and hang out.  As you can probably infer from my blog posts, sometimes we eat out.  On other times, we cook out.  I don't know how we actually come up with the theme.  But, it's probably based on our moods and ingredient availability like our barbecue grill night out in the garden, seafood night's when we are able to buy fresh seafood on bargain price from the nearby dampa.  And, recently, when my relatives came home with 10 kilos worth of Australian steak and abalone, we had Australian food night. 

We really prefer just a house party.  Because after, we could all watch a movie.  Recenlty we're into playing video games or board games more.  

There are a number of times when we want to have a house party but are lazy to cook.  Our resolution for that it to implement a potluck system.  One of those times, I suggested bringing over Stevie's Hainanese Chicken.

I just googled it on the net and found their fan page along with their contact number.  I called and ordered for 3 Traditional Rice Sets.  We picked it up hot on our preferred time at 21 Libra Street in Bel Air Village in Makati.  The guard pretty much knows where it is and pointed it out to us upon entry.

One Traditional Rice Set includes: 1 whole chicken, 5 cups of rice and 4 sauces: topping, chili, ginger and sweet soy.
Upon opening the chicken package, it's fragrant steamy essence captivated and enticed everyone to try it.  And, upon trying,  everyone was impressed!  Even my cousin who stayed and studied in Singapore gave her approval. 

It was very succulent and flavorful.  Prior to this, Tao Yuan tops our list for Hainanese Chicken.  Now, I think this is a close tie with that.


I really like their packaging.  It has a label so it's basically fool-proof.

And, it makes it easy to open and ready to serve as well.


The Hainanese Chicken Rice is the best one I've had yet!

We didn't reheat because we consumed them right after pick up.  But, it has instruction on how to reheat it even after a day.

If you want to impress your guests, then bring them some Stevie's Hainanese Chicken!  This is a definite must try!

If you've been reading my posts, you'd know that I have an endless love affair with ice cream.  For quite some time now, my dear friend Sumi has been raving about Jack Frost Premium Ice Cream.  So one afternoon, The Foodies Circle, visited the humble abode of its creator Mr. Bonner Dytoc for some taste test.  And, Sumi who has tried most of their flavors, was back for more. =p



Jack Frost Premium Ice Cream with a tag line "If you think you know ice cream, then it's time to get to know Jack", aims to offer ice cream with a better quality than the commercialized brands.

They offer ice cream in three sizes: Pint, Half Gallon and Gallon.  Their flavors and pricing is segregated in two: Premium and Super Premium. 

Blueberry Cheesecake (Pint 250 php)

Although their pint looks smaller than the conventional ones you buy in the supermarket, you'd find that it contains non-airy ice cream that's compact so the container is completely filled up. 

Up to this date, it currently offers 17 flavors.  With its growing market, it continuously develops more flavors taking into consideration the requests of its customers.

Premium

♥ Basil (Pint 200 php / Half Gallon 700 php / Gallon 1,300 php)

I'll start with my favorite among all the flavors, Basil!  I'll give this a perfect score for innovation and the right blend.  It's cool with a fresh peppery basil taste that's not too overwhelming.  Its nice sophisticated taste that's not represented by being plainly leafy was quite successful in serenading my taste buds.

Silky Amber (Salted Butter Caramel) (Pint 200 php / Half Gallon 700 php / Gallon 1,300 php)

The Silky Amber is actually Salted Butter Caramel.  There's been a growing popularity for the Salted Caramel flavor in ice cream, gelato and froyo but this one comes with an additional of butter.  I think the butter idea works because it neutralized the sweet rich taste of the caramel.  I bet many would like this.  But, since I have a low tolerance for rich flavors, I'd prefer an even lighter version.

♥ Wintermelon Delight (Pint 200 php / Half Gallon 700 php / Gallon 1,300 php)

Imagine the popular Wintermelon Milk Tea in creamy ice cream form and you have yourself the Wintermelon Delight.  It's no surprise that this is one of their best sellers.  We all gave an unanimous thumbs up for this too.

Almonds Spice (Pint 200 php / Half Gallon 700 php / Gallon 1,300 php)

The Almonds Spice has a light almond base with hint of ginger spice.  It has bits of the sugar coated ginger jelly candy.  

Super Premium

♥ Oreo Cheesecake (Pint 250 php / Half Gallon 800 php / Gallon 1,500 php)

I really like the thick, rich and cream cheesy consistency of the Oreo Cheesecake.  For an Oreo lover like me, this is simply irresistible especially with tons of oreo crumbs.

Strawberry Cheesecake (Pint 250 php / Half Gallon 800 php / Gallon 1,500 php)

I was quite surprised that the Strawberry Cheesecake had a lighter composition compared to the
Oreo Cheesecake.  But, it was also good in its own way.  I think this would have been better though if it had fresh tangy strawberry bits in it.

♥ Blueberry Cheesecake (Pint 250 php / Half Gallon 800 php / Gallon 1,500 php)

I took home a pint of Blueberry Cheesecake and they enjoyed it.  Although we had other ice cream, this was quickly emptied.  The sweetness is just right.  But, I notice that this was more graham crumby than the two other cheesecake flavors I've tried.  Perhaps, their mixing process doesn't guarantee that the ingredients are equally distributed.  I loved it still though because I've always enjoyed eating graham crackers and crusts.

♥ Morning Rush (Pint 250 php / Half Gallon 800 php / Gallon 1,500 php)

The Morning Rush is coffee ice cream with bacon bits.  I found this quite intriguing because it comes with bacon.  But upon tasting, an aromatic roasted coffee lingered in my mouth.  I was not able to distinguish the taste of bacon at all even though I was chewing on the bacon bits.  So I think the presence of the bacon is merely for its chewy texture only.

Choco Glacier (Pint 250 php / Half Gallon 800 php / Gallon 1,500 php)

The Choco Glacier is a rich blend of sweet chocolate ice cream with bits of mint chocolate candy.  Every one loved this because it has a wonderful cooling effect.  Being accustomed to bitter sweet chocolate ice cream, this was a bit sweet for my preference though.

PBJ (Pint 250 php / Half Gallon 800 php / Gallon 1,500 php)

Probably my least favorite is the PBJ because its taste overwhelmed my taste buds.  This is best enjoyed by eating it the local way with bread or monay. 

Energo (Pint 250 php / Half Gallon 800 php / Gallon 1,500 php)

The Energo is Milo ice cream with Pop Rocks coated in chocolate.  I enjoyed this because I liked Milo and it was quite thrilling to experience the popping sensation at random.

Jack Frost Premium Ice Cream is a promising home-based enterprise that offers unique signature flavors that will surely entice you.  Each flavor has a different consistency depending on the ingredient so its best to try them out and find the one that soothes to your liking.  I look forward to trying more of their variants.

I asked what is it but my mom was just giving me her usual it's-a-surprise grin.  Knowing that it's usually a good sign, I excitedly opened the box myself.  I saw an oblong container with a cover.  Of course, I was still clueless.  It looked like an ordinary Leche Flan to me.  As opened the transparent plastic lid, my mom said "Tada!". That's when it all made sense.  I noticed that there was a Leche Flan on the top layer but the bottom part is something else.

♥ Leche Flan Cheesecake (280 php)

We all ate the Leche Flan Cheesecake with glee.  The leche flan layer melts in your mouth covering your mouth with sweet bliss.  While, the cheesecake neutralized the sweetness of the leche flan.  The texture of the cheesecake is light and not too thick.  So, overall this gives a wonderful and not too overwhelming sensation in every bite.  This is a must try!
