Have you heard of the Tori Chizu? I've been hearing about it quite a lot. My little sister even recommended it to me.
Because of the Japanese sounding name, I just had to check the origin of this concept. Turns out, it is an original concept by the same company that franchised Bonchon here in the Philippines.
It has such a inviting vibe. The menu is with inviting pictures and unbelievably affordable pricing will make it irresistible for you to not try this.
Food
Potato Takoyaki (50 php) |
It is my first time to try a Potato Takoyaki and I liked it a lot! What made this different from the usual takoyaki is the zesty cheese flavor and smooth mushy texture.
Japanese Style Chicken
8 pc Rack (554 php) |
There are three spiciness levels for the Japanese Style Chicken: Regular, Spicy and Extra Spicy. As a spicy food lover, I instantly took on the challenge to try the Extra Spic. As you can see, it was well-dusted with chilli powder. But, it wasn't as spicy as I thought. You can still enjoy the flavors of the friend chicken.
Doria Japanese Baked Rice
Chicken Katsu Curry Chizu Bowl (139 php) |
The Chicken Katsu Curry Chizu Bowl is my top pick. I just loved the 3 C's that this dish has to offer: creaminess, crunchiness and cheesiness.
Pasta
Baked Pasta with Egg (135 php) |
When the Baked Pasta with Egg was served, I couldn't believe how geneorus the serving size is.
Baked Pasta with Egg (135 php) |
This Baked Pasta with Egg is way better than your usual fast food spaghetti. It even has a unique twist by adding its special seasoning.
Beef Chizu Bowl (149 php) |
As I am a huge Gyudon fan, I was iniatilly most excited to try the Beef Chizu Bowl. But well, it felt unfamiliarly new to me that I was inkling for the usual Gyudon. I think this need a bit of recurrence to be appreciated.
Chicken Karaage Chizu Bowl (129 php) |
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
I can understand the craze for Tori Chizu. First, the price point is unbelievably affordable. It is within the same price range as most fast-food joints. I've also shared reasoably priced katsu joints before and this is even cheaper. Second, how can you resist its delicious cheesy doria meals?

We have a lot of Hot Pots all over Manila but Double Tasty Taiwan Hotpot 台灣蒸火鍋 is the first to distinguish itself as Taiwanese.
Actually, we've have a lot of Taiwanese in the Philippines. One of my childhood neighbor is Taiwanese and the grade school and high school I attended was run by Taiwanese nuns and priests. But, it is only recently that we see Taiwanese Cuisine in Manila demarcating itself from Chinese Cuisine.
Truth be told, the difference is not that big since Taiwanese Cuisine is mainly influenced by Chinese Cuisine, most notably from the south of Fujian (Hokkien/Fukien) where most Filipino-Chinese or Tsinoys like me descend our ancestry from.
Let's track back the Taiwanese Cuisines we've shared here in the past:
Now let's continue with the addition of this Taiwanese Hot Pot entry with Double Tasty. The casual appeal is similar to usual the typical Chinese restaraunts in Manila China Town (Binondo).
Food
Seafood 海鲜
This is our first time to try a seafood served in a layered Steam Pot style. It was a very good experience. This method of cooking is capable of preserving the natural flavors of the fresh seafood ingredients.
Of course, Steamed Lapu-Lapu has always been a staple order for Tsinoys.
Others 其他
Although Double Tasty specializes Hot Pot, it also offers a must try Home-Made Dumpling. Because it is included in the checklist for Hot Pot, we ordered this intended to be an add-on to the broth but it turns out that its best eaten on its own.
Adding Mixed Vegetables is the secret to a sweeter broth.
You can't go wrong with any of their selections.
We were suppose to order the Crab Claw but I guess we got the Fish Dumpling instead.
Imported Meat 进口肉类
Just by looking at the Beef Superior, you can see the beauiful marbling.
But, strips of fats of Beef Premium are well-appreciated as bang for the buck too right?
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
The satisfaction of a hotpot relies mainly on the broth and the ingredients. Since they have fresh and and quality ingredients and hands down the best sate broth in Manila, we really loved our dining experience at Double Tasty Taiwan Hotpot 台灣蒸火鍋.
