We would never be who we are today if not for our beloved mother. From child birth until now, we are showered by their love and care. In our own little ways, we try as much as we can to show them how much we thank them. But, its only once a year that we could get an opportunity to celebrate "Mother's Day" with the rest of the world. It is the only time that they get along with our silly ideas without giving them an excuse to deem it impractical. So every year, my siblings and I would bring our mother to a fancy restaurant and shower her with presents.
Allow me to share with you Toro Restaurant and Bar's Mother's Day 4-Course Degustation that will surely delight your mother's warm and loving heart. Toro Restaurant and Bar combines distinct Japanese flavors with the simplicity and vibrance of Mexican spices. These dishes of innovation and creativity will surely excite your palate and give you a one of a kind experience. It's chandeliers and Kyoto Zen decor highlighted by a giant mural of a latina Geisha will surely grant you a memorable and dazzling experience.

Pescado in Verde |
Ribeye Teppanyaki |
It is very difficult to decide which main dish option to choose but during our meal, the Pescado in Verde definitely captured our hearts.
The roseate Beringer White Zinfadel Wine holds a pleasing characteristic similar to a mother: sweet and fruity. The dessert shot of Snicker Doodle is similar to an Irish cream with real snickers chocolate bits. It is a sweet and delightful way to end the a fulfilling meal.
The Mother's Day 4-Course Degustation promo only runs from May 1 to 31, 2012 so you definitely can't miss this chance.

My cousin thought we should try out Bugsy's Sports Bar & Bistro so she invited us over with all our relatives for her birthday. She told me that the place is a famous drinking place because their beverage prices are quite affordable. But, the food is pretty good too.
The bistro part is located on the second floor where we dined. It had a scarlet lounge which was very cozy. There is a clear glass window that over looks over the first floor. Unlike below, it only has one LCD TV screen.
Appetizers
Calamari (185 php) |
Mozzarella Sticks (195 php) |
♥ Bugsy's Cured Beef Surprise (195 php) |
Bugsy's Cured Beef Surprise is beef strips cured in tender similar to what we locally know as "tapa". It was very tasty even without dipping it into spicy vinegar. My nephew loved this so much. Both of us couldn't stop digging in to this.
Main Course
♥ Bugsy's Siegel (595 php) |
We were all surpised to see when the Bugsy's Siegel was served. I was so excited to eat the big slab of USDA Certified Angus ribeye steak that I didn't bother about my shot and for that I apologize. They were 1 inch thick and 400 grams in weight. It was cooked medium well just as I had requested. I could taste the masculinity of the Angus beef steak in every bite. Yum!
Pan Seared Salmon (295 php) |
The Pan Seared Salmon comes with carbonara and garlic bread. Pan seared means it is cooked in a high temperature so that both sides will be crispy brown. I felt that the salmon could have been cooked longer since some parts were not even brown yet. In terms of the inside, it was pinkishly raw just as its supposed to be.
Grilled Pork Chops (195 php) |
The Grilled Pork Chops were well marinated and tender. It was pretty good. It goes well with the rice and spicy soy vinegar sauce.
Chicken Corleone (250 php) |
Dessert
Bugsy's Chocolate Lava Cake (145 php) |
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Bugsy's Sports Bar & Bistro is a great place to hang out with the cozy atmosphere. The food is great for sharing too. Given the area and the food quality, the price is very reasonable. For sure sport lovers would enjoy watching, eating and drinking at Bugsy's.

We've been hearing a lot of raves about Chuck's Grub Fish & Chips. So when we stopped over at Rockwell Powerplant, we didn't let the chance pass. It was located along the food stalls at the back part of Rustan's Supermarket.
The area has no tables even for standing so it was a bit tricky to eat there especially with the sauce and all.
Seeing it being featured in various food magazines and other forms of publication heightened our expectation.
Food
We, Tsinoy Foodies, have to admit that we are not experts when it comes to fish. So its a good thing there's a fish handy fact sheet that served as our guide when we were deciding on what to order.
Each order was served in a cone-shaped carton. It contained a slice of lemon, 2 pieces of fish and some chips. It also comes with one sauce of your choice.
After squeezing the lemon. Fellow Tsinoy Foodie Kurt munched on his Beer-Battered Snapper and dipped it the delicious Garlic Mayo Sauce. He found the firm fish meat and rich fishy flavor to his liking. However, we were both disappointed with the second piece because it tasted strongly of mud. We couldn't eat it in disgust. If you think about it... A piece of Beer-Battered Snapper almost costs 80 php so we literally threw that amount of food away. =(
I got the Beer-Battered Cobbler & Chips. The beer-batter coating is very thin and crispy. I'd say the consistency is very good. In terms of flavor, it is pretty good. But, not the best we've had. It was really tender, succulent and mild tasting. Because of its flaky texture, I barely needed to chew. I chose the Good Old Vinegar as sauce which in my opinion is a wrong choice. I should've opted for the Tartar Sauce.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Chuck's Grub is worth a try! It's great that they have a lot of fish selections. I'm even considering coming back to try the Beer-Battered Halibut & Chips priced at 280 php. But, our experience with Kurt's Beer-Battered Snapper & Chips is drawing us back. We thought the disproportionality of the price and the serving size would at least be compensated by control but it failed us. What do you think?

We've always been a fan of Domino's Pizza. We have been planning to dine at the Domino's Pizza Pasong Tamo Branch since it opened. But, it only materialized last month.
Food
Favorites
Of course, pizza is Domino's Pizza specialty and our order wouldn't be complete without one.
♥ Extravaganzza 12" Hand Tossed (599 php) |
Potato Pizza 12" Hand Tossed (549 php) |
Margherita 12" (499 php) |
We had the Margherita in crispy thin crust. The Margherita is topped with diced tomato, mozzarella pearl balls and fresh basil leaves. I like this because of the fresh basil leaves. Unfortunately, not all the parts have them.
Extra! Extra!
Buffalo Chicken Wings 6 pcs. (225 php) |
My family used to loved the Wild Wings with the old Domino's Pizza so we ordered the Buffalo Chicken Wings. It is no longer spicy like the Wild Wings so it no longer pleases us.
Meaty Bolognese Spaghetti (99 php) |
The Meaty Bolognese Spaghetti was nothing special. It's not as cheesy as we hoped too. We'll skip this next time.
On the Side
♥ Apple Crumble 7" (149 php) |
Cheesy Bread (60 php) |
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Domino's Pizza is one of the most competitive in the pizza industry! One can't go wrong in their pizza selections and their Apple Crumble. Their pricing is affordable and it's best to dine in groups. Although they have limited branches, they do deliver with a 30-minute guarantee so give it a try!

After we ate at Shi Lin (see previous entry), my sister insisted that we go and try Drink Tea because she loved it. I later found out the Drink Tea is a Taiwan franchise.
Drink Tea has a modern minimalist ambiance with cafe table set up.
Drinks
In customizing your drinks, you can choose the sugar level, ice level and additional (toppings).
Milk Tea
Chamomile Milk Tea M (75 php) |
The
Chamomile Milk Tea had a sweet and mild minty taste. It was cool and refreshing.
Green Beans Milk Tea M (80 php) |
The Green Beans Milk Tea is topped with green bean which we locally know as "monggo". I find this a bit undermined compared to the rest because it has nothing special to offer.
Roselle
The Roselle selection is Drink Tea's unique offering that differentiates it from other brands. Roselle is found to be high in Vitamin C and has many health benefits.

Prune Roselle Tea M (70 php) |
The Prune Roselle Tea is a roselle tea with a single prune on top. The prune is a great complement to the roselle tea which has a ambrosial sweet and sour taste.

The Roselle Tomato is Drink Tea's best seller. It is a must try!

Drink Tea serves milk teas and more at an afffordable price. The Roselle selection is a must try! The staff is also friendly and helpful in advising what we should order.

Japanese cuisine is one of the most loved in the world. Thus, whether it is with friends or family, I usually end up exploring more into the Japanese food culture.
Last week, I got to try Kitsho Restaurant and Sake Bar at Trader's Hotel Manila. It has a beautiful artificial Cherry blossom tree that brings you happiness when you see it bloom during spring time in Japan. I believe that is a perfect representation of "Kitsho" which means happiness.
Kitsho Restaurant and Sake Bar has a serene and harmonious ambiance with its traditional and contemporary Japanese zen interiors. It has a cozy sake bar and elegant dining areas. It is headed by Executive Chef Masahiro Mizumoto who trained in Fukuoka, Japan. Aside from his 27 years of experience, he is also licensed to prepare the Fugu (pufferfish). It is a licensed that requires at least five years of studying to acquire. (the length of studying period is almost similar to studying medicine huh?) If you want to order it, please reserve it in advance because they have to ship it from Japan.
The set up is awfully familiar to me but I can't remember where.
Food

Others
Kaibashira Butter Shoyuyaki Uni Sauce (480 php) |
It was my first time to try the Kaibashira Butter Shoyuyaki Uni Sauce. It was jumbo scallops covered in a uni sauce. It was my favorite among all the dishes we tried.
Buta Kakuni (350 php) |
The Buta Kakuni is Japanese braised pork belly topped with a small amount of karashi (Japanese mustard) and shiraga negi (Japanese Green Onions). Growing up with a health-conscious upbringing, I am not a fan of this dish. But, I enjoyed Chef Mizuto's Buta Kakuni because the pork was succulent and the karashi and shiraga negi was a perfect contrast from the oiliness.
Hotaru Ika (280 php) |
Chawanmushi (280 php) |
Salmon Tartaryaki (480 php) |
Before proceeding to the dessert, we had the Dobon Mushi. It was my first time to try this classic Japanese soup. It was served in a traditional Japanese tea pot with a slice of lemon on top of it. We were instructed to squeeze the lemon and enjoy. It was a clear light dashi water enhanced by the chicken, fish, mushroom and shrimp contained therein. I loved this!

Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Kitsho Restaurant and Sake Bar offers the Quality Japanese dishes with the freshest and finest ingredients. The price you pay is justified not just by the ingredients but also with the diligence they put in the food preparation. They also have affordable bento boxes available.
