During our Baguio Food Tour 2014 (#BFT2014), we stayed at Azalea Residence. I'm glad with the group's selection because it acquainted me with this praiseworthy hotel. They offer top-notch service and facilities. In fact, I found it difficult to get up once I lay on their bed because it's so soft and cozy! There's cable TV in every room. There's a stove, fridge and even microwave over. The staffs are very friendly and courteous too. And as a foodie, of course, I'm very thrilled to share about Tradisyon by Azalea's Breakfast Buffet.
Tradisyon by Azalea is located on the ground floor of Azalea residences. It specializes in Filipino Comfort Food.
The dining area is so spacious that it offers its dinner utmost comfort and privacy. It has soft yellow light that adds a tone of coziness to the place.
Upon walking in, the first thing you'll encounter is the Omelet Station. You can request your style of omelet or egg here. Due to the numerous buffet options, I opted for an egg instead to spare my tummy from being too stuffed.
Whether Scrambled, Sunny Side Up or Eggs Over Easy, kuya cooked them perfectly!
For an early serving of healthy treats, they have an assortment of pre-made salad like fruit salad and macaroni salad, DIY salad ingredients and dressings and fresh fruits at the Salad and Fruit Bar.
For drinks, they have Iced Tea, Orange juice or Freshly Brewed Coffee. They also serve Cereal with Milk. This is a great option for growing kids. Azalea Residences is really a top consideration when looking for a hotel for the family because not only do they provide family-friendly facilities, they also consider children in their food offerings.
On our first day, they had the Strawberry Compote. On the second day, we had the Blueberry Compote. Both of them are really good that my companions and I enjoyed it! The brownies was also good! But, Foccacia was a bit hard.
I also requested Pancakes! It was served with maple syrup and butter on top.
The Macaroni and Cheese is delicious! I loved the gooey cheese overload.
To redeem myself from the guilt of devouring over the Macaroni and Cheese, I got some of this really sweet buttered Buttered Mixed Vegetables. I could tell that they use fresh-from-the market ingredients.
The Swordfish is one of my all-time favorite Filipino breakfast viand. There's just something about the perfect crisp and saltiness that always make me consume more than I intend to.
I thought the Fish and Chips is a cool and fun dish to offer. While chatting with my companions, I was munching on these! The potato chips are addictive!
The Grilled Chicken was tender and succulent although the skins are a bit burnt.
You know, I do have a lot of simply homey dishes on my favorite list and the fried Milkfish is one of them! Since childhood, my siblings and I would race each other to devour the fatty part. =))
Many say that everything with Bacon is good. Well, here you go. Eat your heart out!
Baguio Longganisa with some vinegar is yum!
Of course, a famous Filipino comfort food breakfast is the Corned Beef.
A warm bowl soup or Congee on a cold Baguio climate is my kind of comfort.
You can choose the toppings you want!

We had a filling breakfast during our stay because of the wide variants of quality breakfast buffet offerings at Tradisyon by Azalea. Aside from that, the service is good and the WiFi is fast and reliable.

The third stop for the Baguio Food Tour 2014 (#BFT2014) is Alfoncito's Place at Kisad Road.
It's found on the basement so we were all clueless on what to expect.
I was really amazed at how artsy and quaint the place was. It had colorful paper butterflies, wall arts, ginger bread house and all sorts of mix match that work well together.
I even found their clock to be cool.
It's the first time I've seen a cafe with a sign like this. What a great idea.
While hands off my gadgets, completely offline and disconnected, I kept myself busy with their place mat which doubles as a place mat. When I was in grade school, we always had this bulletin board labelled "Best in Art" where all the best works are plastered for display. I'm proud to say I got my works hanged there sometimes. I kind of miss showing my artistic side... so what do you think? =p
Food
Antipasti
The Chicken Crostini is a serving of 3 toasted country bread topped with chicken strip, tomato slice, melted cheese and pesto. It was a nice crunchy starter.
Panini
One of my favorite items during our visit was the Barbecue Pork Panini with mixed green salad on the side.
Pasta
The Linguini al Pesto with Oven-Baked Herbed Chicken was loved by my companions. The pasta was very tasty and the Oven-Baked Herbed Chicken strips were moist, tender and delicious too.
The Spaghetti al Aglio e Olive is spiced with chili and garlic with lots of olives! I really enjoy the spicy garlicky flavor of this dish!
Their Penne Alla Bolognese is a great interpretation of my classic favorite pasta dish. I love that has a nice blend of tanginess. The meatball was also good!
Heavenly Desserts
I really enjoyed their silky and fluffy crepes! My friends and I each had our own favorites. I loved the Apple and Cinnamon Crepe because it has a nice balance of sweet and spice.
Drinks
Something Hot...
Everyone seemed to enjoy their drinks but I felt my Irish Creme was a bit bland and diluted.
The Cucumber Twist is a cucumber, mint and lemon flavored Italian soda. It was a refreshing drink.

I really Alfoncito's Place because it makes me feel laid back and relaxed. Food is quite affordable too. My friends were really please with their Oatmeal Shakes so I guess I should try that on my next visit.

Old Penang RS Restaurant: Malaysian Cuisine with Rasa Sayang at Newport Mall in Pasay (Closed)
Resorts World Manila, Newport Boulevard, Pasay, Philippines
We were on a rush for a movie at Newport Mall so we decided to have a quick dinner at the Old Penang RS Restaurant. Compared to other restaurants in there, it seemed to serve fast and the prices are more affordable. "RS" stands for Rasa Sayang which means loving feeling. Let's see if we'll feel that after our dinner...
The place was packed but they had a quick turnover because of their good service.
Food
Rice
It's actually my first time ever to try Nasi Lemak which is the National dish of Malaysia. This variant comes with beef rendang, a cup of rice cooked in coconut milk and pandan leaves, egg, cucumber with belachan (shrimp paste), egg and sambal sotong (spicy cuttlefish). The beef rendang is spicy beef stew with coconut milk. It is very tender and delicious!
Noodles
The Famous Penang Char Kway Teow is fried rice noodle strips with prawns, egg, bean sprouts, deshelled cockles (seawater clams) and Chinese sausage. I've tried a lot of version of char kway teow and I must say this is one of the best! It was very rich in flavor.
The Chicken Noodle Soup is served with toasted garlic, green onions, chicken strips and fish balls. This is similar to the Chinese chicken mami but has bolder chicken broth.
Dessert
Being a fan of ice kacang, we were quite excited for the Penang Ice Kacang with Ice Cream. We didn't even mind if we got late for our movie. But when it came, it wasn't as extravaggant as we'd hope. It was a big bowl filled with crushed ice, milk, red bean, sweet corn and ice cream with strawberry syrup on top. It was just okay...
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
As there aren't much Malaysian restaurants in Manila, Old Penang RS Restaurant is a great way to start with. Their pricing is definitely street or hawker price but compare to other restaurants in Newport Mall, this is already reasonable. The food quality and service is worth paying for.

Ketchup Food Community is a food community composed of five different restaurants specializing in different cuisines: Canto (American), Rancho Norte (Filipino Comfort Food), Happy Tummy (Thai), Rumah Sate (Indonesian and Malaysian) and Green Pepper (Gourmet)
It is located along Romulo Drive near the Wright Park Horse Back Riding Stables in Baguio City. They offer a nice native but cozy ambiance so you can enjoy your meal in the cool climate of Baguio City.
What I really like about the concept is that its a very friendly community that allows you to order in any of the restaurants regardless where you dine and you will be billed separately. As part of the Baguio Food Tour 2014 #BFT2014 organized by my friends Ramil and Edgar of Pinasmuna.com, I was able to try Rancho Norte and Happy Tummy. I'll definitely come back for the rest. =)
Rancho Norte
Appetizers
The Appetizers are also great as beer match or "pulutan"
I'm not sure if I've eaten horse meat before but this has definitely won me over. Woo! I never thought that Tapang Kabayo could be so addictively spicy, clean tasting and tender. This is a must try at Rancho Norte!
As far as deer meat goes, I've tried Kalderetang Usa before but it's a first for Tapang Usa. Regardless of the type of cooking, I could sense that distinct smell and texture of the deer meat. I personally prefer the Tapang Kabayo by far comparison.
Vegetable
My mom being a native of Ilocos, we have been cooking Pinakbet with Bagnet at home all my life so you could say I set the bar high when it comes to it. Yet, here I am with nothing but praise for the crisp of the bagnet skin, the soft and tender fatty meat that almost melts in your moth and tasty vegetables.
Soup
I've noticed that there are two types of Sinigang: clear soup and thick soup. The Sinigang na Baboy is of the latter which I'm not too fond of. But, the tender pork is the one that made me appreciate this dish.
Combo Meals (Served with Pinoy Salad and Drinks: Rancho or Red Tea, Gulaman or Brewed Coffee)
What sets their Crispy Sisig apart from other sisig is the bagnet component. You get to enjoy crunchiness in every bite instead of bouncy thick skin and fats. I really liked this version.
Happy Tummy
The Crispy Tilapia in Tamarind Sauce is crispylicious! We all enjoyed it with its not-so-sweet and wonderfully tangy tamarind sauce.
If you're a regular reader, you'd know that I'm always raving for my favorite dessert dish: Sticky Rice with Mango. Yes, I'm raving for this too!
Other Reviews in Baguio City
Rancho Norte serves affordable but very delicious Filipino Comfort Food that's great for sharing! I'm rarely impressed with Filipino dishes and this is one of those moments.
Happy Tummy offers authentic Thai cuisine also at a budget friendly range. I highly recommend it. In fact, I want to try more of their dishes soon.
