Hansik Restaurant 한식 레스토랑: Hidden Gem for Authentic Korean Cuisine (Tomas Morato Quezon City)
Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines
The family is rarely in Tomas Morato Quezon City area. We are not very familiar with the establishments there so we tried searching for places to eat using Zomato, Booky Manila and Waze. Even though we were all navigators equipped with our own devices, we somehow managed to take the wrong turn and ended up in Hansik Restaurant 한식 레스토랑 and we were too hungry to turn back. (Yes! The family can get a bit agitated when their stomach is grumbling and patience isn't our virtue)
The restaurant has no English name so it was difficult to share for us non-koreans. I only found out the name when I checked-in on facebook and swarm. This used to be called Tadami Restaurant. It's a plus that they have a parking space which is usually the problem in the area.
The place looks clean and quaint. Each table has already been set.
They add new menus every once in awhile but we opted for their regular selections which were recommended by our server.
Food
Before our orders arrived, we were served their complimentary banchan. Every thing was so good so we got excited to try our orders.
Appetizers
For starter, we had the Salmon Salad. Its very simple but the salmon was fresh and the dressing is a great match for it.
Main Dish
Our server (who seems to be focused with our dish) cooked our Bulgogi with Vegetable at our table. As you can see, food here is best shared with a group.
It was then served to as smoking hot. This isn't the typical grilled type. Instead this is what they call Bulgogi Jungol or Bulgogi Soup. Although we've tried it before, we rarely encounter this style in the Metro. It's perfect to eat on a cold rainy day. We were all very pleased with this. The cost is definitely justified by the quality of the meat, flavor and serving size.
Having tried many dak galbi before, I have to admit, their Dakgalbi is one of the best. Even my little sister who despises spicy dishes could resist this!
Noodles
The Seafood Tomato Stew is something new for us. It's like the Korean version of Marinara Pasta in soup form. Definitely a must try!
Rice Dishes
The family is very fond of trying out Kimchi Rice whenever we encounter one. This Kimchi Fried Rice is the quite unique. It has some bean paste and sesame seeds among others. It's not dominantly spicy like we expected so the siblings are quite thrilled with that. It is similar to 678's lunch box.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
We are glad to discover Hansik Restaurant 한식 레스토랑. I have yet to compare it with other Korean Restaurants in the Quezon City area. But, I highly recommend it as one of the best one's we've tried. (As of date, my label counter says it's a total of 45 Korean restaurants =D)

Seoul Korean Restaurant: Hidden Authentic Korean Gem (Ortigas Pasig)
Pasig, Metro Manila, Philippines
When we ate at Jang Ga Nae, my little sister said that we should have eaten at Seoul Korean Restaurant where she and her schoolmates always dine at. I told her that Jang Ga Nae was top-rated by bloggers and netizens while Seoul Korean Restaurant is unsearchable online.
She told me that this place used to be named Happy 6 Days. Since my little sister is the ultimate K-pop and Korean food fan in the family, we take her suggestions highly and gave Seoul Korean Restaurant a try.
It is not as big as it's next door neighbor but believe it or not, I find simple homy places more appealing.
Food
We were served their delicious Complimentary Banchan: Miyeok Muchim (seaweed salad), Mu Saengchae (thinly sliced radish kimchi), Kimchi, Gyeran Mari (fried egg), Okra Kangjung, Dubu Ganjangjorim (pan-fried tofu with spicy sauce). We loved all of them! We were looking forward to trying more dishes upon tasting these!
The Kimbap is so good too!
The Dak Galbi is one of the best I've had! The spiciness isn't overwhelming with a mellow sesame essence. The serving size is hefty too.
The O-Sam Bulgogi is thin pork an squid slices in soy sauce marinate. We had the spiciness at mild level. This was another hit! The pork and squid were tender plus the marinade was so delicious!
Leading Korean Fried Chickens brands are no match for the Yang Nyum Chicken. It's got finger-licking sauce, very crunchy skin and tender juicy meat. I'm actually quite surprised at how good this is!
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Seoul Korean Restaurant is Pasig's hidden authentic Korean gem. Every dish we ordered was so good! Taste-wise, I felt that they don't scrimp on ingredients as the dishes are so rich and hearty just like the kind of food my mom and I would prepare at home. Their serving size is good for sharing so bring some company with you. I highly recommend this place.

Gangnam Style Korean BBQ Casual Izakaya: Family Korean BBQ Night (Harbor Square)
Pasay, Metro Manila, Philippines
My friend Joei has long been urging me to try Gangnam Style. So I mentioned it to the family and they agreed to try it. While on the way, I was surprised that we were headed to Harbor Square when I thought it was in Makati. We searched the net and all entries were also in Makati. But, since we're already there we might as well try it right?
It has a big lighted sign with a guy logo that looks a lot like Psy (the singer of the song. It is located just above the worst branch of The Chicken and Rice Shop (their dessert items are hardly ever available).
Taking a plight of stairs, we arrived by its entrance bombarded by promos. We didn't stop to read and just went in as we were hungry. Later on, we found out that they offer 6 free side dishes (we got this) and bingsu (this was not available during our visit).
The interiors were really nice. The dining areas each had a square table equipped with gas griller, pillows for seats and display shelves that serve as dividers. Their was a background music too but not Korean as I would have expect.
Food
The server took our orders and immediately served
our complimentary Banchan. We were surprised at how generous they are
with Banchan. There was the usual . And, there are full serving size
of the Gyeran Jjim (steamed egg) and Kimchi Jigae.
BBQ
Soon, our BBQ orders arrived and server begun grilling them. She overheard us talking about the Gangnam Style in Makati and told us that it is indeed a branch of it. But, she said the one in Makati is more popular and they use charcoal grillers there.
The Grilled Chicken Ribs marinade was successful in appealing to our tastebuds.
Red Pepper Paste Pork Belly rarely make a lasting impression to me but this did. Just look at
their beautiful thick, marbled and fatty pork slab and you can probably
tell how flavorful it is and even enhanced by the red pepper paste.
This tray is refillable so enjoy these with your grills. Add the spicy vegetables to boot.
Meal Special
Since my mom loves Kimchi Fried Rice and wanted to try all versions of it, we ordered one. It was good but still doesn't top our favorite.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Gangnam Style is a must try if you're looking for authentic Korean dishes. With all their complimentary dishes, you're belly will be more than satisfied with much left on your wallet.

Ever since we heard about Sariwon Korean Barbecue opening here in the Philippines last May, we have included it on our wishlist. So after hanging out at Jamba Juice, we decided to have dinner there.
Sariwon's traditional Korean interiors reflect a serene feel. Among the many frames hanged on its walls is the Zelkova tree, native tree in Korea that spans 900 and withstands wind, drought and winter. It reflects endurance, longetivity, patience, tolerance, peace and harmony. As Sariwon's legacy involves bulgogi or Korean barbecue, all the tables therein are equipped with gas smokeless grillers.
Our dinner at Sariwon began with a simple gesture of pouring hot water over what appeared to us as coin-sized dehydrated towels. We were amused to watch them as they sprung up and expanded into the usual form.

We had ours cooked medium so we were able to enjoy its perfect texture and flavor to a great extent. We all loved this! This is definitely the best Galbi, I have ever tried. Even by itself, you will surely be enthralled by the richness, juiciness and tenderness. This was my favorite for the night!

Since this is the first time for us to encounter such a dish, we eagerly watched as our server prepared it step by step. He placed the meat on the center and the leeks and mushroom on the side. Then, a hot pot was poured over the meat. When the meat is nearly cooked, the mushroom and leeks were places on top of the meat and the sweet potato noodles were added to the side.

Although they serve a house tea of Barley Tea, their wide variety of drinks convinced us to try some of them.
Fresh Fruit Shakes
The Kiwi Fruit Shake (160 php) is served in a tall glass. I enjoyed its sweetness and richness. On the other hand, the ♥ Citrus Herb Juice (150 php) is a more light and refreshing option.Sariwon Cocktails
The Sangria Soju (195 php) is a sweet blend of red wine and soju topped with apple, orange and lemon slices. It was served in a large cocktail glass. Although it was sweet, you could really feel the strength of the soju in it.
The Cherry Blossom Sojutini (140 php) is a pink concoction with cherry brandy, lime and soju. Although this looks more like a ladies drink than the Sangria Soju, it delivers a greater punch than the latter perhaps because of the brandy.

The Sikhye is a drink made of malt and rice. Although it doesn't look too appealing, it is pleasantly sweet and delicious!
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Sariwon is a must-try when craving for Bulgogi (Korean barbecue) and Galbi. Their special sauces are unlike any other. The servers are also nice and attentive. I heard the price here is more affordable than their other counterparts too. Best to come in groups since most of the grill dishes are good for sharing. I will definitely bring my family at Sariwon to share with them my pleasurable experience.
