J. Park Garden Restaurant has recently opened at Jose P. Laurel Foundation Building. We've been passing by the area for decades but never had we imagined that the place could be so beautiful and lively.
J. Park is a 24-hour spacious two-story restaurant fully surrounded by glass panes. It's greens and classy interiors is like a paradise inviting every passer by.
A step inside will even offer an overwhelming comfort with its clean, fragrant and cool vibe. Aside from the casual dining area on the first and second floor, the second room also provides more privacy with individual rooms by the back hallway.
Food
While J. Park offers unlimited Samyupsal for only 500 php (minimum of two [2] persons), we opted to order ala carte because the menu had a lot more to offer.
Pajeori (파절이)
All the ban chan (also known as side dishes) it served on our table was gloried in terms of ingredients and portions. As you can see some of the ban chan are served in big bowls too. And, if its not enough, the servers are happy to replenish them upon our requests too.
Beef
Special Wagyu Beef (Rib-Eye) (2800 php)
Kkot Galbisal (Grilled Beef Prime Ribs) (1,600 php)
Pork
Samgyeopsal (Fresh Pork Belly) (400 php)
But if indeed you want to get the best out of your money, they avail of their limited offer for Umlimited Samgyeopsal at 500 php. Being we ordered the Samgyeopsal as ala carte at 400 php! Imagine, just add 100 php more per person and you can eat your heart out!
Meals
Bulgogi
| ss | ||
Kimchi Jjige (Kimchi Stew) (400 php)
Aside from dishes that you can cook on the table, we ordered other stews and soups too. For spicy lovers, the Kimchi Jjige will give you the spicy tinge in the taste buds that you yearn for and the delightfully hot soup will give you that warm massage in every sip.
Dwenjiang Jjigae (Soybean Stew) (400 php)
Galbi Tang (600 php)
Side Dishes
Japchae (500 php)
It was a hard choice between the Japchae and the Janchi-guksu for our noodle dish. Here in Manila the Japchae is more common and popular so it was what we chose. However, in Korea, the Janchi-guksu is what they have in every occasion. The word "janchi" literally means banquet or feast in Korean. While "guksu" simply means noodles in Korean.
What we appreciate with Korean restaurants is that the management is very hands on. You can see that the Korean owners and managers are the ones doing the hard labor as well.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Overall, J. Park Garden Restaurant is the hippest and grandest 24-hour Korean restaurant in Manila. This is highly recommend for all types of diners. Given the beautiful and luxurious appeal, the pricing is quite affordable too. For private rooms and big groups, it is better to reserve since the place is usually crowded during peak hours. You can contact them via mobile or Facebook.

Oh My Samgyup:Gamsahamnida for Returning My Wallet (Quezon City)
Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines
For years, I've been struggling to develop self-discipline and time management so I could prepare my own healthy meals for lunch. Since I spend around 4 hours per day on travelling to work, I have found it convenient most of the time to have a lunch out instead. With lots of good eats in Quezon City like Oh My Samgyup, it's not such a bad idea.
During my third time, I was in such a rush to go back to the office, I didn't notice that I dropped my wallet. To my amazement, they even went to the extent of messaging me in Facebook before I could realise that I dropped it. Because of their honestly and initiative, I added a star on service!
Food
Side Special
Stew
Unlimited Samgyupsal
This is their best-seller! Good to try but difficult to finish because of the strong aroma. Being a minimalist, I still prefer the plain beef slices so I could devour more.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Oh My Samgyup offers awesome Korean food! I hope it gains more popularity. No bias here although I would also like to tell them wholeheartedly "Gamshamnida" for returning my wallet. =)
Actually, I've visited this three time in total.

Aside from that, I also appreciate their consideration when I told them to rush my orders because I am on a lunch break.
Food
Complimentary Ban Chan
They offer at least three Complimentary Ban Chan.
Side Special
♥ Geran Mari (180 php)
The Geran Mari is a great comfort food. I enjoyed this egg and vegetable dish while waiting for my other orders.
♥ Kimbap (170 php)
One of my favorite Korean dishes to order is the Kimbap. Thumbs up for this!
Stew
♥ Galbitang (300 php)
I'm having a problem warming up lately, so I found the Galbitang to be really soothing.
♥ kimchi jjigae (300 php)
When craving for spicy, I highly recommend their kimchi jjigae. Even before I heard of eating spicy as a stress relief, I already enjoyed eating spicy. Lately, I found there is a scientific basis that eating spicy releases a hormone called "seratonin" making us feel happy. So yes, you could really say that this is my happiness bowl!
Rice
♥ Kimchi Bokkeumbap (200 php)
For staple, I couldn't help but order their Kimchi Bokkeumbap over and over. I'd consider the spiciness to be mild given my spiciness tolerance built over the years. But, I liked their slightly sweet and comforting blend with tons of crunchy veggies.
Unlimited Samgyupsal
Some restaurant requires a minimum number of persons before you can avail of their grilled dishes or unlimited promo. But, that's not the case with Oh My Samgyup. Call me a glutton but I'm proud to share that I availed of their Unlimited Pork and Beef for only 499 php alone.
Previously, I've always associated dining as a social or group activity. Thus, the name of the blog in plural if you've noticed. But lately, I've discovered the pleasure of eating slowly in solitude as well. My mind used to wonder off when I take walks. But, day dreaming while eating good food is good too.
Oh My Samgyup has lots of marinade to choose from.

Gangnam Style Korean BBQ Casual Izakaya: Family Korean BBQ Night (Harbor Square)
Pasay, Metro Manila, Philippines
My friend Joei has long been urging me to try Gangnam Style. So I mentioned it to the family and they agreed to try it. While on the way, I was surprised that we were headed to Harbor Square when I thought it was in Makati. We searched the net and all entries were also in Makati. But, since we're already there we might as well try it right?
It has a big lighted sign with a guy logo that looks a lot like Psy (the singer of the song. It is located just above the worst branch of The Chicken and Rice Shop (their dessert items are hardly ever available).
Taking a plight of stairs, we arrived by its entrance bombarded by promos. We didn't stop to read and just went in as we were hungry. Later on, we found out that they offer 6 free side dishes (we got this) and bingsu (this was not available during our visit).
The interiors were really nice. The dining areas each had a square table equipped with gas griller, pillows for seats and display shelves that serve as dividers. Their was a background music too but not Korean as I would have expect.
Food
The server took our orders and immediately served
our complimentary Banchan. We were surprised at how generous they are
with Banchan. There was the usual . And, there are full serving size
of the Gyeran Jjim (steamed egg) and Kimchi Jigae.
BBQ
Soon, our BBQ orders arrived and server begun grilling them. She overheard us talking about the Gangnam Style in Makati and told us that it is indeed a branch of it. But, she said the one in Makati is more popular and they use charcoal grillers there.
The Grilled Chicken Ribs marinade was successful in appealing to our tastebuds.
Red Pepper Paste Pork Belly rarely make a lasting impression to me but this did. Just look at
their beautiful thick, marbled and fatty pork slab and you can probably
tell how flavorful it is and even enhanced by the red pepper paste.
This tray is refillable so enjoy these with your grills. Add the spicy vegetables to boot.
Meal Special
Since my mom loves Kimchi Fried Rice and wanted to try all versions of it, we ordered one. It was good but still doesn't top our favorite.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Gangnam Style is a must try if you're looking for authentic Korean dishes. With all their complimentary dishes, you're belly will be more than satisfied with much left on your wallet.

Ginzadon Japanese and Korean Restaurant: A Revisit at Maxim's Tower Hotel
Pasay, Metro Manila, Philippines
It's been almost three years since I last visited Ginzadon Japanese and Korean Restaurant so I'm wanted to refresh my memory during this revisit.
It has the same familiar ambiance that I remembered.
On a weekday night, it was packed with a mix match of diners. They were business executives, tourists and families.
There is the sushi bar and teppanyaki bar. The former seemed to be unoccupied.
Food
Their menu has two sections: Japanese and Korean so its quite clear that they offer authentic cuisine and not fusion.
I like their idea of having both Okazu (Japanese Side Dishes) and Ban Chan (Korean Side Dishes) served .
Japanese Menu: Sashimi
The Sashimi Moriawase Matsu or special assorted sashimi depends on availability. As you can see everything is so fresh! It had Hokkigai (surf clam), Ebi (shrimps), Ikura (roe), Sake (salmon), Maguro (tuna), Saba (mackarel), Hamachi (yellow tail) and Tako (squid). It was actually my first time to try the Hokkigai and it certainly won't be the last because I loved it!
Japanese Menu: Uramaki
The Tempura Ura Maki is a platter of huge caifornia roll with prawn tempura. The rolls are so big I can't fit them on my mouth! Each roll has nori bits on top roe on the side, quality sticky rice, crunchy nori, prawn tempura, cucumber, ripe mango and crab stick.
The Dragon Roll Maki is the king of all maki!
It's a big roll with prawn tempura, crab meat, cucumber, ripe mango wrapped with sticky rice, crunchy nori and grilled salmon skin glazed with unagi sauce and sprinkled with sesame. It is similar to the Tempura Ura Maki so you can skip that and order this instead.
Korean Menu: Classics
Being a spicy food lover, I often order the kimchi stew whenever offered so I've tried many renditions. This Kim Chi Jji Gae is the best one I've tried yet! The spiciness is exciting but not overwhelming. Aside from kimchi, it also has 3 slices of soft silky tofu, green onions and sliced beef.
Japanese Menu: Tempura
You can judge by the appearance that this is high quality Ebi Tempura.
The Galbi Bi Jim first struck me as expensive. But when it was served, I realized that it was a hefty serving. It has several huge chunks of braised prime rib short ribs, big cuts of carrots, onions, bell peppers and potato. This braised rib stew is actually a favorite dish of the family so I've tried quite a handful. I have to admit, this version is way more superior than the others I've tried.
Desserts
Since I loved the Shiratama Zenzai with green tea ice cream from my first visit, I opted to order the Nuk Cha or green tea ice cream. It was as delicious as I recalled it to be!
The Black Sesame Ice Cream is just as good!
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Ginzadon Japanese and Korean Restaurant offers authentic and quality Japanese and Korean dishes that doesn't scrimp on the serving size and quality of both local and imported ingredients. The price is expensive but justifiable because it's situated in a hotel, it offers a great ambiance and service and the dishes are really top-notch.
