J. Park Garden Restaurant has recently opened at Jose P. Laurel Foundation Building. We've been passing by the area for decades but never had we imagined that the place could be so beautiful and lively.
J. Park is a 24-hour spacious two-story restaurant fully surrounded by glass panes. It's greens and classy interiors is like a paradise inviting every passer by.
A step inside will even offer an overwhelming comfort with its clean, fragrant and cool vibe. Aside from the casual dining area on the first and second floor, the second room also provides more privacy with individual rooms by the back hallway.
Food
While J. Park offers unlimited Samyupsal for only 500 php (minimum of two [2] persons), we opted to order ala carte because the menu had a lot more to offer.
Pajeori (파절이)
All the ban chan (also known as side dishes) it served on our table was gloried in terms of ingredients and portions. As you can see some of the ban chan are served in big bowls too. And, if its not enough, the servers are happy to replenish them upon our requests too.
Beef
Special Wagyu Beef (Rib-Eye) (2800 php)
Kkot Galbisal (Grilled Beef Prime Ribs) (1,600 php)
Pork
Samgyeopsal (Fresh Pork Belly) (400 php)
But if indeed you want to get the best out of your money, they avail of their limited offer for Umlimited Samgyeopsal at 500 php. Being we ordered the Samgyeopsal as ala carte at 400 php! Imagine, just add 100 php more per person and you can eat your heart out!
Meals
Bulgogi
| ss | ||
Kimchi Jjige (Kimchi Stew) (400 php)
Aside from dishes that you can cook on the table, we ordered other stews and soups too. For spicy lovers, the Kimchi Jjige will give you the spicy tinge in the taste buds that you yearn for and the delightfully hot soup will give you that warm massage in every sip.
Dwenjiang Jjigae (Soybean Stew) (400 php)
Galbi Tang (600 php)
Side Dishes
Japchae (500 php)
It was a hard choice between the Japchae and the Janchi-guksu for our noodle dish. Here in Manila the Japchae is more common and popular so it was what we chose. However, in Korea, the Janchi-guksu is what they have in every occasion. The word "janchi" literally means banquet or feast in Korean. While "guksu" simply means noodles in Korean.
What we appreciate with Korean restaurants is that the management is very hands on. You can see that the Korean owners and managers are the ones doing the hard labor as well.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Overall, J. Park Garden Restaurant is the hippest and grandest 24-hour Korean restaurant in Manila. This is highly recommend for all types of diners. Given the beautiful and luxurious appeal, the pricing is quite affordable too. For private rooms and big groups, it is better to reserve since the place is usually crowded during peak hours. You can contact them via mobile or Facebook.

Rock & Seoul: New Year New Korean Eats (SM North Edsa The Block)
Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines
I'm a huge fan of bibimbap. I've come across Rock & Seoul for quite some time but never had the time to go until I was invited last week.
Having been to SM North several times, it has occurred to me that this is the first time I've been to the Upper Ground Level of SM North the Block. I had no idea that there are a lot of food places there. Rock & Seoul is just one of the many among them. And, it is located just in front of SM Hypermart.
There's no place as spacious, retro and yet casual like it.
I can't help but find myself amused at the displays.
And, this wall stood out as soon as I entered.
I can't figure what the shirts are for though.
Everything seems to be in theme even their cool menu.
Tasting Sampler
We were given a tasting sampler with their Big Boy La Ribs, Cheesy Fondue Chili Pepper Chicken and Ramyeon.
The Big Boy La Ribs can be ordered as a set with bibimbap (499 php) or plain rice (449 php) or as ala carte (399 php).
This is the Original Bibimbap you'll get if you choose this set.
The Big Boy La Ribs was so flavorful and tender! I wanted to swipe it clean to the bone.
I'm glad they have Unlimited Banchan because I'm used to eating bibimbap with them.
The Ramyeon is a satisfying meal by itself.
Upgrade your Chili Pepper (240 php) with the Cheesy Fondue (395 php) and enjoy both crispy and creamy cheese goodness in every bite.
For our thirst quencher, there's the Lychee Yakult.
What intrigued me the most was the Charcoal Waffle. Usually they have the vanilla or green tea ice cream as an option. I really liked this because it wasn't sweet at all.
So there you go! Lot's of new stuff to try at Rock & Seoul. I want to try more of their Bibimbaps on my next visit too.

Seoul Korean Restaurant: Hidden Authentic Korean Gem (Ortigas Pasig)
Pasig, Metro Manila, Philippines
When we ate at Jang Ga Nae, my little sister said that we should have eaten at Seoul Korean Restaurant where she and her schoolmates always dine at. I told her that Jang Ga Nae was top-rated by bloggers and netizens while Seoul Korean Restaurant is unsearchable online.
She told me that this place used to be named Happy 6 Days. Since my little sister is the ultimate K-pop and Korean food fan in the family, we take her suggestions highly and gave Seoul Korean Restaurant a try.
It is not as big as it's next door neighbor but believe it or not, I find simple homy places more appealing.
Food
We were served their delicious Complimentary Banchan: Miyeok Muchim (seaweed salad), Mu Saengchae (thinly sliced radish kimchi), Kimchi, Gyeran Mari (fried egg), Okra Kangjung, Dubu Ganjangjorim (pan-fried tofu with spicy sauce). We loved all of them! We were looking forward to trying more dishes upon tasting these!
The Kimbap is so good too!
The Dak Galbi is one of the best I've had! The spiciness isn't overwhelming with a mellow sesame essence. The serving size is hefty too.
The O-Sam Bulgogi is thin pork an squid slices in soy sauce marinate. We had the spiciness at mild level. This was another hit! The pork and squid were tender plus the marinade was so delicious!
Leading Korean Fried Chickens brands are no match for the Yang Nyum Chicken. It's got finger-licking sauce, very crunchy skin and tender juicy meat. I'm actually quite surprised at how good this is!
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Seoul Korean Restaurant is Pasig's hidden authentic Korean gem. Every dish we ordered was so good! Taste-wise, I felt that they don't scrimp on ingredients as the dishes are so rich and hearty just like the kind of food my mom and I would prepare at home. Their serving size is good for sharing so bring some company with you. I highly recommend this place.

Blogs and online reviewers have given praised and high-ratings for Jang Ga Nae so I suggested it to the family to try when we were in the Ortigas Pasig area and coincidentally craving for Korean.
It has a wide parking space but it was full so we had to double park.
As soon as we reach the door, we were greeted by this. She reminds me of Jang Geum (the main character in a Korean Telenobela decades ago).
Before we could even come in, we could already here the chattering sounds of the crowd that came from slight opening of the door. As we went in, we were told to wait as our table is being prepared. Mixed smoky vapors clouded the closed room. But, not too much since there are air-suctions above every table. We then seated to a wooden table with an electric griller. And, the staffs handed us the menu.
Food
As soon as our orders were taken, our plates were set up, a pitcher of water as well as our Complimentary Banchan arrived. I must say, their quite generous and the elections were good.
We were also provided a Complimentary Pajun. It was pretty good. Quite unique being flat but I really liked it. This is one of the best pajun I've had actually.
There are two things I can generally say about Jang Ga Nae's Gal Bi Jim or beef rib stew (1) It's a generous and chunky serving (2) It's the sweetest one galbi jim I've ever had.
The He Mul Tang is spicy mixed seafood soup. This is really spicy with lots of stuff in there like crab, clams, fish fillet, tofu, sprouts, leeks and onions. For the price, it's a steal.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Jang Ga Nae failed to impress us. The price is pretty good. But, that's it. I wonder if we should have ordered the grilled selections. But, we didn't feel like it because they don't use charcoal. If you love Jang Ga Nae perhaps you can suggest what we should try.

Ye Dang Korean B.B.Q Restaurant is one of the most popular authentic Korean Restaurants in Pasig. Good words about its prominence has been passed on to many.
Despite its wide parking space, it becomes fully occupied during peak hours.
Once you enter, you will be welcomed by the loud chatters of dining crowd. The Korean owner is usually there to oversee the operations and assure that you are ushered to a table.
Food
Upon ordering, they will serve seven kinds of Complimentary Ban Chan or Side Dishes: baechu kimchi (spicy fermented cabbage), Kkakdugi (spicy fermented white raddish), Sigeumchi namul (lightly parboiled spinach dressed with sesame oil, garlic, and soy sauce), Myulchi Bokkeum (stir-fried anchovies), Pajeon (green onion pancake), Al Gam Ja Jorim (potato in soy sauce) and Dubu Jorim (spicy tofu).
They fill also prepare the charcoal for your grill.
The Dak Gui is a well-marinated grilled chicken. This is our family favorite.
The waiters will assist in placing your orders on the grill but it's your job to make sure you turn them before they get burnt.
We occasionally order the Samgyupsal which is a roasted pork belly. Why occasionally? Well, its sinfully delicious as you can see from the fatty marbled pork meat.
The Samgyupsal is cooked with the onions.
Eat it with your choice of dipping sauces and garlic.
The lettuce leaves are refillable.
The Samgaetang which is Korean ginseng chicken soup is another of our favorite. It has lots of scallions and a light ginseng taste.
The Galbichim is beef short ribs stew. This is delicious!
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Ye Dang Korean BBQ Restaurant is a recommendable authentic Korean restaurant for its great food quality, good service and reasonable pricing.
