J. Park Garden Restaurant has recently opened at Jose P. Laurel Foundation Building. We've been passing by the area for decades but never had we imagined that the place could be so beautiful and lively.
J. Park is a 24-hour spacious two-story restaurant fully surrounded by glass panes. It's greens and classy interiors is like a paradise inviting every passer by.
A step inside will even offer an overwhelming comfort with its clean, fragrant and cool vibe. Aside from the casual dining area on the first and second floor, the second room also provides more privacy with individual rooms by the back hallway.
Food
While J. Park offers unlimited Samyupsal for only 500 php (minimum of two [2] persons), we opted to order ala carte because the menu had a lot more to offer.
Pajeori (파절이) |
All the ban chan (also known as side dishes) it served on our table was gloried in terms of ingredients and portions. As you can see some of the ban chan are served in big bowls too. And, if its not enough, the servers are happy to replenish them upon our requests too.
Beef
Special Wagyu Beef (Rib-Eye) (2800 php) |
Kkot Galbisal (Grilled Beef Prime Ribs) (1,600 php) |
Pork
Samgyeopsal (Fresh Pork Belly) (400 php) |
But if indeed you want to get the best out of your money, they avail of their limited offer for Umlimited Samgyeopsal at 500 php. Being we ordered the Samgyeopsal as ala carte at 400 php! Imagine, just add 100 php more per person and you can eat your heart out!

Kimchi Jjige (Kimchi Stew) (400 php) |
Aside from dishes that you can cook on the table, we ordered other stews and soups too. For spicy lovers, the Kimchi Jjige will give you the spicy tinge in the taste buds that you yearn for and the delightfully hot soup will give you that warm massage in every sip.
Dwenjiang Jjigae (Soybean Stew) (400 php) |
Galbi Tang (600 php) |
Side Dishes
Japchae (500 php) |
It was a hard choice between the Japchae and the Janchi-guksu for our noodle dish. Here in Manila the Japchae is more common and popular so it was what we chose. However, in Korea, the Janchi-guksu is what they have in every occasion. The word "janchi" literally means banquet or feast in Korean. While "guksu" simply means noodles in Korean.
What we appreciate with Korean restaurants is that the management is very hands on. You can see that the Korean owners and managers are the ones doing the hard labor as well.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Overall, J. Park Garden Restaurant is the hippest and grandest 24-hour Korean restaurant in Manila. This is highly recommend for all types of diners. Given the beautiful and luxurious appeal, the pricing is quite affordable too. For private rooms and big groups, it is better to reserve since the place is usually crowded during peak hours. You can contact them via mobile or Facebook.

It was a stormy weekend. Many would stay at their homes but not my family. Like all other birthdays, my uncle's birthday must be celebrated! And, this time its at the newly opened Gen Korean BBQ House.
If you recall Banzai that closed two years ago, well Gen took its spot.
I usually encounter a sushi bar but this is the first time I've seen a grill bar. I would have tried it if I was alone but since we were a group of 30 or so, we occupied around 7 tables in the dining area. I wonder if it was because it was a stormy night. But other than our group, there were only 2 other groups dining that night.
Dinner Choose Menu (Dinner, Weekend, Holiday)
The Ban Chan which includes the Sangchu Geotjeori or Korean lettuce salad is refillable. The best most loved Ban Chan for the group is the Korean Potato Salad.
♥ Gen Premium Steak |
We were excited to order a lot of meats because my family is dominantly carnivores. But according to house rules, we can only order 3 dishes at a time. We began with their best-seller: Gen Premium Steak. Of course, it's based on practical instinct that we must try the Gen Premium Steak to at least strive to get our monies' worth. Upon trying this, I was disappointed because I'm very picky when it comes to steak. I don't like having to taste and smell the hint of frozen meat which I did.
♥ Premium Chadol (Premium Angus Beef Brisket) |
My siblings like pork but I like beef so my favorite is the Premium Chadol (Premium Angus Beef Brisket).
Woo Beasal |
♥ Beef Bulgogi |
The Beef Bulgogi is pretty good.
Samgyubsal |
Honey Chicken |
♥ Garlic Chicken |
The family also enjoyed the Garlic Chicken.
♥ Chicken Popcorn |
The surprising hit for the night is the Chicken Popcorn. If you're getting tired of all the grilled, these addictively crunchy Chicken Popcorn is a great in between snack just pop one at a time in your mouth.
♥ Shrimp |
No need for marinade for their fresh Shrimp. I'd order more of these if only I didn't eat too much meat already.
♥ Jap Chae |
We ordered the Jap Chae because it is a birthday tradition to eat noodles for long life. These noodles turned out to be good.
Drinks
If there's a factor that displeased the family the most, it would be the drinks. The Bottomless Drinks priced expensively as 138 php are listed as one section in the menu. But turns out... when you order soft drinks, you can order soft drinks. If you order Nestea products, you can only order Nestea products. The saddest part is if you order Hot Coffee, we thought you can shift to Hot Tea but no. My sister was very displeased with the Hot Coffee so she wanted to shift to Hot Tea but was not allowed. The Hot Tea quality is really bad too. It is oversteeped Lipton Tea...
Drinks
Birthday Surprise
And for the birthday celebrant, he gets a surprise birthday song and a birthday pineapple (yes! pineapple and not cake).
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
We felt that Gen Korean BBQ House is not worth the price. Even if its understandable that pricing in LA is more expensive but the meat quality isn't that good too. Given that we were one of the few customers, we weren't very pleased with the service either.

Hansik Restaurant 한식 레스토랑: Hidden Gem for Authentic Korean Cuisine (Tomas Morato Quezon City)
Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines
The family is rarely in Tomas Morato Quezon City area. We are not very familiar with the establishments there so we tried searching for places to eat using Zomato, Booky Manila and Waze. Even though we were all navigators equipped with our own devices, we somehow managed to take the wrong turn and ended up in Hansik Restaurant 한식 레스토랑 and we were too hungry to turn back. (Yes! The family can get a bit agitated when their stomach is grumbling and patience isn't our virtue)
The restaurant has no English name so it was difficult to share for us non-koreans. I only found out the name when I checked-in on facebook and swarm. This used to be called Tadami Restaurant. It's a plus that they have a parking space which is usually the problem in the area.
The place looks clean and quaint. Each table has already been set.
They add new menus every once in awhile but we opted for their regular selections which were recommended by our server.
Food
Before our orders arrived, we were served their complimentary banchan. Every thing was so good so we got excited to try our orders.
Appetizers
For starter, we had the Salmon Salad. Its very simple but the salmon was fresh and the dressing is a great match for it.
Main Dish
Our server (who seems to be focused with our dish) cooked our Bulgogi with Vegetable at our table. As you can see, food here is best shared with a group.
It was then served to as smoking hot. This isn't the typical grilled type. Instead this is what they call Bulgogi Jungol or Bulgogi Soup. Although we've tried it before, we rarely encounter this style in the Metro. It's perfect to eat on a cold rainy day. We were all very pleased with this. The cost is definitely justified by the quality of the meat, flavor and serving size.
Having tried many dak galbi before, I have to admit, their Dakgalbi is one of the best. Even my little sister who despises spicy dishes could resist this!
Noodles
The Seafood Tomato Stew is something new for us. It's like the Korean version of Marinara Pasta in soup form. Definitely a must try!
Rice Dishes
The family is very fond of trying out Kimchi Rice whenever we encounter one. This Kimchi Fried Rice is the quite unique. It has some bean paste and sesame seeds among others. It's not dominantly spicy like we expected so the siblings are quite thrilled with that. It is similar to 678's lunch box.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
We are glad to discover Hansik Restaurant 한식 레스토랑. I have yet to compare it with other Korean Restaurants in the Quezon City area. But, I highly recommend it as one of the best one's we've tried. (As of date, my label counter says it's a total of 45 Korean restaurants =D)
