Li Li's Restaurant at Hyatt Hotel Manila: Dimsum All You Can

It's not everyday we get to experience the elegant and luxurious home of Li Li Ho, an elite socialite from Hongkong.  So, we took our chances and toured Lili's Restaurant at Hyatt Hotel.  It is a Cantonese restaurant made in  Li Li's name.  It has garnered quite a number of awards such as one of the best restaurant in the Philippines by Philippine Tatler and Dineasia and has been nominated to be part of the Top 20 Best Restaurants in Asia by Miele.

Lower Dining and Upper Dining Area
Our first stop is the majestic Lower Dining and Upper Dining Area with beautiful mirrors, drapes, flower centerpiece, painting and lightings.  Li Li's ancestors paintings can be found on the Upper Dining Area as a sign of respect.

Library and Drawing Room
The Library is one of my favorite rooms.  It contains book that are of travel and art which are  Li Li's interests.  It is also where men hang out after dinner.  While, the Drawing Room is where the woman take comfort while the men are in the Library.  It has its own pantry.

As tribute to Li Li's daughters Fei Fei and Bai Ling, they each have a room with similar design but different in color.

Wine Cellar
The Wine Cellar usually has a different table set up.  But for our group gathering, it was arranged as such.

Gong Fu Tea Ceremony
To show how welcome we are as guest, the Gong Fu Tea Ceremony is performed before us.  The Gong Fu Tea Ceremony originating from Fujian and Guangdong in the 1940's.  The original term "Gong Fu Cha" literally means "skills" or "capability".  Each gesture and artful movement is done with deep respect and intention: respect for the guest being served, respect for self and respect for the art of tea.

It involves a delicate of procedure:

  • warming the pot and heating the cups
  • appreciate excellent tea
  • the black dragon enters the palace
  • rinsing from an elevated pot
  • the spring wind brushes the surface
  • bathe the immortal twice

You'd have to watch it for yourself to understand.  It's a special service you can request whenever you dine at Li Li's Restaurant.

Sio Mai (Steamed Pork and Dried Scallop Dumpling)
