Kao Chi Restaurant: Xiao Long Pao and More Authentic Chinese Dishes (Banawe Quezon City)

My family rarely travels out of our area just for food.  But, on this specific night, my mom was craving for Kao Chi Restaurant's Xiao Long Pao and so off we went.

Kao Chi Restaurant has a traditional Chinese feel to it.  It has a display rack of ceramics and things believed to bring fortune.  I often see this in a typical Chinese home.  Unlike other Chinese restaurantsKao Chi Restaurant had more long tables than round maybe because can house more tables that way.  But, since we were many, we occupied the function room with a large round table.

Food

Dimsums
xiao long bao
♥ Xiao Long Bao 6 pcs. (138 php)
Here it is the Xiao Long Bao we've all been craving for.  This is the best for us yet.  This comes second to the Xiao Long Bao fellow Tsinoy Foodie Kurt's sister sends us from Taiwan.

Soup & Pot
hot and sour soup
Hot & Sour Soup (138 php)
The Hot & Sour Soup is good for sharing.  One order is already good for the six of us.  The soup is full of ingredients.  It was more sour than hot though.  But, I still enjoyed it.   This is my favorite soup after all.

Appetizer
shanghai honey glazed spareribs
♥ Shanghai Honey-Glazed Spareribs (188 php)
The waiter recommended the Shanghai Honey-Glazed Spareribs as their best-seller.  True enough, it was really good.  Although it was a bit oily due to the fats, it was very succulent and tender.  We all enjoyed this as it was exploding with flavors.

Poultry
sauteed diced chicken with cashew nuts
♥ Sauteed Diced Chicken with Cashew Nuts (258 php)
The Sauteed Diced Chicken with Cashew Nuts is light and saucy.  The chicken cubes were so soft, I barely felt the need to chew.  This was my favorite viand for the night.

Seafood
steamed fish fillet
Steamed Fish Fillet (338 php)
The Steamed Fish Fillet was cooked perfectly.  The fish was moist and tender that it almost melts in the mouth.  It had a right blend of sauce to that doesn't overpower the natural sweetness of the fish fillet.

Vegetable / Tofu
steamed eggplant in special sauce
Sauteed Eggplant in Special Sauce (238 php)
Although I'm usually found of the Sauteed Eggplant in Special Sauce, I found this minced pork with eggplant dish too oily.  I'm glad that it was a bit spicy though to counter the oiliness that could get overwhelming.

sauteed fermineted tofu in special sauce
Sauteed Fermented Tofu in Special Sauce (238 php)
Appreciating the taste of the smelly Sauteed Fermented Tofu in Special Sauce is not instantaneous.  In my opinion, it is an acquired taste.  Growing up in a Chinese home has made me accustomed to its flavors and I've grown to love it.  The more portions you eat of this, you'll notice that the taste gets better.

Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Kao Chi Restaurant is a great place to enjoy authentic Chinese food at a really affordable price.  Like most Chinese restaurants, the serving size is good for sharing.  Don't miss out on their Xiao Long Pao.  I highly recommend it.
