The family especially the elders are wary of going too far just for a dinner. Thus, this is one of the few peculiar moments where we have decided to venture further North to try a new Chinese restaurant. We were probably enchanted by Sha Tin Courtyard Chinese Bistro's facade.
Upon stepping in, we were more enamored by Sha Tin's interiors. The harmonious combination of red seats, lanterns and artificial greens reminded us of the lantern festival scenes from Chinese shows. Even the busy sound of the restaurant exudes a festive ambiance.
Now, these big red linen covered round tables were the much familiar set up for a Chinese restaurant.
While waiting, we were served some complimentary hot tea and peanuts. This is also customary for Chinese restaurants of this type.
Food
As expected, the menu offers both ala carte and set menu. For Chinese restaurants that we regularly visit, we usually take the set menu and the adjust a few dishes therein based on the advisement of the manager. However, since this is our first time to try Sha Tin, we opted to go for the ala carte so we can try the dishes that interested us.
Dimsum Articles
Kuchai Scallop Dumpling (110 php) |
Because Sha Tin is not near our area of residence, the time of arrival of my relatives varied so those who were early opted to order some dimsum first before . It offered a lot of dimsum selections. But most of them were quite heavy. We just wanted something to start our meal so we ordered the Kuchai Scallop Dumpling first. We loved this so we ordered around three of these per table.
Century Egg Siomai (85 php) |
While waiting for our repeat order of Kuchai Scallop Dumpling, we also ordered the Century Egg Siomai. We enjoyed this as much as the Kuchai Scallop Dumpling so we also ordered three of this per table.
Prawn Hakao (130 php) |
Of course, the Prawn Hakao is our classic dimum order which never failed to satisfy us just us in this instance.

Soup
Shark's Fin Soup with Shredded Chicken and Bamboo Fungus L (2,250 php) |
Perhaps, 99% of our lauriat dinners begins with a hot bowl of shark's fin soup. There's just something about it's warm, thick and gelatinous texture that makes it so comfortable to drink. We loved this because the shredded chicken and bamboo fungus was harmonious with the base texture of the soup. To be honest, we don't mind much about the taste as we always enjoy this with our preferred amount of vinegar.

Sizzling Stuffed Pan Fried Tofu (450 php) |
Unexpectedly, our favorite dish for the night was the Sizzling Stuffed Pan Fried Tofu. Yes, there is really something delicious and healthy at the same time and this dish proves it.
Claypot Dishes
Fried/Salt & Pepper
Nutrient Steamed Dishes
The most common way of cooking steamed fish is with beans. What we loved about the Steamed East Star with Bean Paste is that it was garlicky too.
The Peking Duck was prepared just beside our table and was served in two ways: Peking Duck Pancakes and Diced Peking Duck.
Of course, Peking Duck is peking duck. Either way is great.
We ordered one for each table but didn't finish it and even brought home left overs.
Noodles and Rice
Last but not the least... in the order of serving... is always the Birthday Noodles. This is one of the very few encounters of this dish where we were delighted to eat it not just for a mere tradition.
Claypot Dishes
Beef Short Ribs in Black Pepper Stew L (1,100 php) |
The Beef Short Ribs in Black Pepper Stew was rather pricey and yet it failed top make a lasting impression to make us want to order it again. It was lacked tenderness and juciness to make it pleasurable to eat with its rich pepperish sauce.

Because it was a birthday celebration with the clan, we ordered the Peking Duck to mark the occassion.

Ever since I tried X046 Filipino Heritage Bistro, I've vowed to come back with the family. Finally, the night came when we were craving for Filipino cuisine and near Makati so it was the perfect destination.
Walking in, I was excited. My family who is hardly excited over Filipino food was a bit skeptic.
But, seeing the awards made them a bit enthusiastic.
The place reflects the authentic Filipino elegance. I love every detail of its interiors from the chair to the lighting.
Lovebirds can opt to seat here. But, no pair dined there that night cause we were all groupies that night.
Very nice plate mat right?
Food
Once we were done ordering, we were served a plateful of Complimentary Puto with Aligue and Yema Dip. The puto has three flavors: ube, pandan and plain. This is one of the best puto I've ever tried! It was soft and moist. The dip wasn't much but since it's free, I can't really complain.
Spanish Tapas
The Callos A La Madrilena is stewed ox tripe and pork hock with chickpeas and chorizos. A serving is good for 3-4 persons. It is one of our family favorite dishes. The ox tripe and pork hock were so tender and the stew was so flavorful! Everyone gave their approval as soon as they tasted this.
Kanin at Pansit
I rarely praise rice dishes but this Tinapa Rice is really good! Consider this as an option for your staple.
Family Style Dishes: Seafood
The Dumaguete Express is the best dish for that night. It was our first time to try a dish liked this and it won't be the last!
Family Style Dishes: Meat & Poultry
As expected from XO46, they can make an ordinary dish like the Adobong Baka sa Bawang so extraordinary! This is a heavenly garlicky, salty and savory dish.
Vegetables
Like the rest of the dishes, I also loved the Ginataang Langka. In fact, I'll admit I ate about a half of this!
Mga Dulce
For dessert, my mom who loves kakanin (rice delicacies) ordered the Casava Cake with Salted Caramel. I'm usually not to fond of Casava cakes but boy this was so good that even my brother who doesn't eat desserts loved it. I'd like to applaud the plating.
Desserts
The Sapin-Sapin Bahaghari is always feautured in magazines and blogs so we just had to check it out for ourselves. It is served with honey wine and mantecado ice cream. We've tried a lot of Sapin-sapin before but none of them offered an experience as astounding as this one. The components just mesh wonderfully together.
Mom wanted to try their Guinomis but it was not available so the server suggested that we try their Halo-Halo instead. We were so happy with it. It is very tasty because of its bountiful ingredients.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
X046 Filipino Heritage Bistro is the best Filipino-Spanish restaurant in the Metro. usual serving size is for 2 to 4 persons. The price is a bit expensive but considering the quality, service and ambiance, I'd give you a complete go signal!

Oliva Bistro Cafe is a humble restaurant along Visayas Avenue, Quezon City. Based on the name, I initially had an impression that it would be items inspired with olives. But, I was proven wrong as I glance their menu. They offered a wide range of food selections that belonged to different cuisines. According to Chef Kannan, he gained his experience by working as a chef at hotel cafes where he was tasks to cook in international cuisine so he didn't want to specialize in just one.
Oliva Bistro Cafe is visible from outside through its large glass windows. Inside, it has posh booth along its custom-designed walls and cushioned wooden chairs on the opposite side. Overall, they give out a casual and cozy feel.

Buffalo Wings with Blue Cheese Dip (180 php) |
The Buffalo Wings with Blue Cheese Dip is a great starter. Although it was saucy, the chicken skin was perfectly crunchy. In terms of taste, I find it more on the tangy side rather than spicy. It went really well with the blue cheese dip. But, I prefer my buffalo wings with more zing in them.

Oliva Bistro Cafe is a great place to dine with family and friends. The place is a bit tricky to find bring tucked in one of the buildings along Visayas Avenue but certainly worth trying out. They serve delicious food in stylish plating. More importantly, they are reasonably priced.

My cousin thought we should try out Bugsy's Sports Bar & Bistro so she invited us over with all our relatives for her birthday. She told me that the place is a famous drinking place because their beverage prices are quite affordable. But, the food is pretty good too.
The bistro part is located on the second floor where we dined. It had a scarlet lounge which was very cozy. There is a clear glass window that over looks over the first floor. Unlike below, it only has one LCD TV screen.

♥ Bugsy's Cured Beef Surprise (195 php) |
Bugsy's Cured Beef Surprise is beef strips cured in tender similar to what we locally know as "tapa". It was very tasty even without dipping it into spicy vinegar. My nephew loved this so much. Both of us couldn't stop digging in to this.

♥ Bugsy's Siegel (595 php) |
We were all surpised to see when the Bugsy's Siegel was served. I was so excited to eat the big slab of USDA Certified Angus ribeye steak that I didn't bother about my shot and for that I apologize. They were 1 inch thick and 400 grams in weight. It was cooked medium well just as I had requested. I could taste the masculinity of the Angus beef steak in every bite. Yum!

Pan Seared Salmon (295 php) |
The Pan Seared Salmon comes with carbonara and garlic bread. Pan seared means it is cooked in a high temperature so that both sides will be crispy brown. I felt that the salmon could have been cooked longer since some parts were not even brown yet. In terms of the inside, it was pinkishly raw just as its supposed to be.
