Located at the top most floor of Robinson's Place just beside Handy Man is Bacolod Chicken Inasal. I haven't been to Bacolod so I'm glad that we have the Bacolod Chicken Inasal restaurant chains here in Manila.
Bacolod Chicken Inasal offers a simple ambiance with a Filipino feel. The servers are all wearing yellow polo in accordance to its yellow and white theme. It also sells local Filipino delicacies.
Food
Pang-pagana (Appetizers)
The Eggplant Ensalada is a simple appetizer dish composed of a grilled eggplant in vinegar topped with diced fresh tomatoes and onions.
Sabaw (Hot Soup)
The Pancit Molo is always something warm and soothing to order. For me, the Pancit Molo is like the Filipino version of the Chinese Wanton Noodle Soup. I love the molo which is wrapped in wanton wrapper and filled with pork.
Chicken Inasal
I always order Chicken Inasal Paa whenever we dine at Bacolod Chicken Inasal. I know that there are many types of inasal but the Bacolod style inasal is the best for me. I love its fragrant flavor. The pricing of Bacolod Chicken Inasal is also very affordable. Their serving size is pretty good, the chicken size is big and it comes with one cup of rice topped with fried garlic bits. However, I was displeased that among seven orders of the Chicken Inasal Paa, mine was overcooked.
Utan Kag Pancit
Enticed by the photo of the Bangus Lumpia ni Mom dish on their menu, we were eager to try it. It was our first time to try a bangus filled lumpia. It was okay but nothing special.
Merienda (Snacks)
Regardless of the time we drop by at Bacolod Chicken Inasal, we always order the Suman at Mangga and eat is as dessert. I know this is easy and simple to prepare. It has one piece of suman, two strips of mango with coconut milk but I just love this! In fact, I even ordered another of this for take out just to eat it as a midnight snack.
The Leche Flan is too sweet for my taste. I also did not like the texture.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Bacolod Chicken Inasal is the place for good quality food at a budgeted price. What I love about Bacolod Chicken Inasal is their consistency in taste and serving size. The service is great too. The staffs are friendly and accommodating.

I won't deny it! We love Bibingka and Puto Bumbong (see previous entry) so here I am sharing about it again. Every time we go to Malate Church, we would always buy at Mommy Lucy. It is located just outside The Aristocrat Restaurant at Malate.

Mommy Lucy's Bibingka and Puto Bumbong is offered for an average price and for that you get what you pay for. It is enough to satisfy our yearning for Bibingka and Puto Bumbong but it is not the best available.

From the same owners of Ramen Bar and Yakitori Kitchen, comes Ramen X. The first branch of Ramen X is located just beside the entrance of Trinoma Garden. Ramen X is currently on its soft opening. They want everything to be perfect before approaching their regular operations.
Being a a Philmugger for so long, this is the first event I've ever participated in. Although its far from our place, I convinced Kurt to go with me. Coincidentally, Kurt and I were lining up by the entrance of Trinoma Mall when we saw ailes, a co-blogger . We also saw my Philmugger brother by the entrance of Ramen X with my sister. We all dined together.
The ambiance of Ramen X is bright, modern, spacious and fun. We all appreciated and loved the design.
Food
Ramen
We noticed that their Special Ramen bowls are ceramic while the Regular Ramen are plastic and black and red in color.

Shoyu Ramen (99 php) |
The Shoyu Ramen is a soy based noodle soup topped with Roast Pork, Egg, fish cake, vegetables and green onions. It was complete in terms of ingredients. The serving size was very generous given its price. It was pretty tasty too. The texture of the noodles are okay. Kurt enjoyed this.
Special Ramen
♥Chikuwa 7 Ramen (129 php) |
My brother and Ailes both ordered the Chikuwa 7 Ramen. Ailes loved the Chikuwa when we dined at Yakitori Kitchen so she ordered this dish. Based on the name, the Chikuwa 7 Ramen is a soy-based ramen with topped with 7 Chikuwas and green onion. The Chikuwa 7 Ramen was the best dish among all our orders. Aside from the soy taste, its soup had a flavorful seafood taste.
Kimchi Ramen (129 php) |
The Kimchi Ramen is soy-based noodle soup topped with Kimchi, Egg, Roast Pork, fish cake, vegetables and green onions. The Kimchi Ramen is actually the Shoyu Ramen plus the Kimchi. I enjoyed it! I find it more delicious than the Shoyu Ramen because of the blending of the saltiness of soy and spiciness and sourness of the Kimchi.
Oishi Ramen (129 php) |
The Oishi Ramen is the most featured dish in their menu. In addition, we all know that "Oishi" means delicious in Japanese. Naturally, we all had high expectations for this dish. If you notice, all the ramen we ordered is soy-based, but the Oishi Ramen is a special blend of soy and miso. It is topped with Roast Pork, Egg, fish cakes, beef, vegetables and green onions. The taste is more on soy than miso. My sister did not enjoy it because she was looking for a more flavorful taste like the Chikuwa 7 Ramen. However, my brother and I were able to appreciate its simple balanced flavor.
Kimchi (30 php) |
The pricing for the ramen topping like the Kimchi is affordable. You can just add whatever toppings you like. The Roast Pork (2 slices) at the 30 php is very cheap! All toppings are served in a separate plate. Thus, you can order them separately even if you don't have a ramen to pair them with. You can eat the Kimchi as a side dish to your rice bowls like I did. =)
Egg (15 php) |
Gyudon (89 php) |
Gyudon is my favorite Japanese rice topping. I always order Gyudon whenever available. The Gyudon was served with thinly sliced beef strips which made it very tender and easy to eat. I liked that the sweetness was just right as expected from an authentic Japanese Gyudon. However, it could use a little more helping with the sauce so it would be more proportional to the rice. At the same time, the rice wouldn't feel so dry to eat too.
Braised Pork Tamago Rice (89 php) |
The Braised Pork Tamago Rice is braised pork bits with egg and topped with green onions. The pork bits were really tender that you hardly need to chew. Unlike the Gyudon, this dish was overflowing with sauce. However, on most parts, I found it too salty for my taste. There was a portion where it was sweet. But, Kurt enjoyed this and finished this quickly too.
Too bad, they don't offer any desserts yet. My little sister was craving for something sweet so we had to move on to another dessert place before going home.
Service
Ramen X is a pay-as-you-order restaurant. Simply pay at the counter, get your number and wait for a few minutes for your order to be delivered at your table. Staffs are very courteous and nice. Though newly opened, it was evident that the staffs are efficient and well-trained.

Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Ramen X offers authentic Japanese ramen at an affordable price. I don't think you can find a ramen anywhere as cheap as the price offered at Ramen X. Ramen X is a potential market leader among ramen places. However, we feel that the rice bowls can still be improved. The ramen toppings concept at Ramen X is brilliant. It makes eating ramen not only affordable but fun and customizable. So if ever you pass by Ramen X, don't be intimidated by its beautiful interior and think its only for those with deep pockets. Ramen X offers affordable authentic Japanese ramen for everyone. =)

If you can recall, we shared our last visit at Mercato Centrale (see previous entry) where we tried the Supreme Brazo Bars by Ces Lopez. We passed by once again just to try out more of their offerings. Upon seeing the Merry Moo wooden sign, we were instantly lured. We just couldn't resist ice cream.
According to the Merry Moo sign board, it uses fresh local dairy and offers unique and fun flavors.
As we approached the Merry Moo stall, the staff greeted us immediately and asked what flavor we want. We were glancing down looking at all the unique flavors and had a hard time deciding on what we wanted so we asked the personnel for the best seller and he recommended the "Sea Salt and Caramel" and "Earl Grey Tea".
We also had a FREE taste of each. Both were really good! The Earl Grey Tea is fragrant and refreshing with a citrus twist. But, we the found the taste of Sea Salt and Caramel more intriguing so we ordered a scoop. A scoop is reasonably priced at 70 php. They also offered a mix scoop but at a higher price.
♥Sea Salt and Caramel (70 php/scoop) |
Sea Salt and Caramel carries a balanced taste of both saltiness from the sea salt and sweetness from caramel. We love it! However, it may be a bit too sweet if you eat too much so we shared for this.
Update as of December 23,2019: Merry Moo has now expended to mall stores and other markets.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Merry Moo offers rich and creamy ice cream with unique flavors. The Sea Salt and Caramel is certainly worth trying out. The flavors are all enticing, I want to try them all out! Any recommendation on what we should try next? =)

I've always loved Vietnamese Cuisine because I love the herbs and all the vegetables. But, there is only a few dining selections available here in Metro Manila. For many years now, my family would always eat at Pho Hoa whenever we would crave for Vietnamese Cuisine. Last night, I was fortunate enough to be invited to Ba Noi's, a hidden gem for fresh flavors of Vietnam in Makati, with a group of foodies whom I've always looked up to. I'm so glad i get to meet them for the first time.
Ba Noi's has a casual yet comfortable ambiance. It has a simple yet beautiful interior with its Vietnamese designed lights, dramatic portraits of Vietnam and wooden tables and benches.
Although Ba Noi's is new to me, it has already won distinguishing awards. I did not find it it surprising since their food has a lot of potential.
Right in the middle of its counter is their Sugarcane Press. I usually see this in China Town so its the first time I've seen one inside a restaurant. After seeing this, I can't wait to order their freshly made Sugarcane juice. It's my favorite!
Vietnamese Cuisine Instructions |
Located in the middle of each wooden table is their Vietnamese Cuisine Instructions. I then realized that I've been eating Vietnamese food for quite some time and never have I been taught on how to eat them in the right way. I find their guide very helpful. I'm glad to know that I was eating "pho" the right way.
Food
Lobster Crackers |
While waiting for my companions, the hospitable owner Henry offered us some Lobster Crackers. I've never met anyone who doesn't enjoy munching on these. I usually see this with Chinese Cuisines but I guess the Vietnamese serve this too.
Noodles
♥Pho Bo (220 php) *photo is only half size |
Pho Condiments |
The Pho Bo is probably one of the most popular Vietnamese dish. The Pho Bo is beef noodle soup served with various herbs and spices. It came with a platter of bean sprouts, lime, basil, chili. It also came with some hoisin sauce and a chili sauce (tasted like "Sriracha"). The best feature of this dish is that you can add your your desired condiments and sauces to created your preferred taste. The way I do it is to add everything except for the sauces because I enjoy the light naturally beefy and herb-y taste and a little bit of spiciness. The thinly sliced beef was so tender that it felt like I hardly had the chance to chew it. This is the best Pho Bo I have ever tasted!
Appetizers
Goi Cuon (300 php) |
The Goi Cuon is a famous Vietnamese appetizer. The Goi Cuon is pork, shrimp, and rice vermicelli, rolled in rice paper. It is served with Ba Noi's peanut sauce. I have always enjoyed the Goi Cuon. Ba Noi's version with the protruding large shrimps is delicious! You get to enjoy the natural light sweet taste from the shrimp and the meaty flavor of pork. The peanut sauce adds more flavor into it too. I was glad that it was wrapped really tight so it was easy to eat with their wooden chopsticks.
♥Banh Xeo (250 php) |
The Banh Xeo is something new for me. The Banh Xeo is a crispy thin crepe filled with sauteed pork and shrimp bits, mung bean and bean sprouts. It is served with fresh vegetables such as lettuce, basil, carrots and radishes and nuoc nam sauce (fish sauce). I liked the Banh Xeo because of its crunchiness and flavorful ingredients. This is a must try!
How to eat Banh Xeo?
How to eat Banh Xeo |
At first glance, I was wondering how to eat the dish. I'm glad we dined with Henry because he thought us how to eat one. Allow me to share it with you.
Step 1: Place the lettuce flat on your place.
Step 2: Cut a portion of the crispy crepe and place all of them on top of your lettuce.
Step 3: Add the rest of the veggies you see on the plate dish
Step 4: Grab the wrapped lettuce and dip in into the nuoc nam sauce and eat it.
♥Cha Gio (190 php) |
The Cha Gio is deep fried spring rolls with a mixture of ground pork, shrimp, taro and black fungus. It is served with fresh lettuces, basic and the nuoc nam sauce. This dish is exploding with flavors.
How to eat Cha Gio?
How to eat Cha Gio |
I really thought eating this dish is as simple as our custom spring rolls but it isn't. To eat this correctly, you have to eat this by placing your lettuce on your plate, add some basil and then the deep fried Cha Gio. Grab everything and then dip it in the nuoc nam sauce.
Beef Dish
♥Bo Luc Lac (320 php) |
The Bo Luc Lac is stir-fried spiced beef cubes topped with sesame seeds served with chili and fried basil. I really enjoyed this! The beef cubes were so tender and each bite is so flavorful. It goes well with the fried basil too. This dish reminds me of Beef Salpicao but it was more fragrant with the sesame and spices and it was not oily.
Chicken Dish Ba Kho Cari Xa (240 php) |
Ca Kho To (250 php) |
Beverages
♥ Sugarcane Juice (90 php) |
Ba Noi's makes their own Sugarcane Juice so I was enticed to order one. I am accustomed to China Town's fresh sugarcane juice ever since I was a child. Ba Noi's is just as good. Plus, I think its the best beverage to pair with Vietnamese Cuisine. The sweetness of the Sugarcane Juice allowed me to reset my palate after each spicy or herb-y dish I ate.
Teas
Hot Jasmine Tea (65 php) |
Rose Wine |
Dessert
Banh Dan Long (135 php) |
The Banh Dan Long is a warm pandan cake filled with a layer of mung beans in the middle. It is topped with coconut cream and toasted sesame seeds. I always enjoyed this dessert. I love the fragrant pandan taste and the mild sweet taste of mung beans. The coconut cream and toasted sesame seeds compliments the cake too. This refreshing dessert is the best way to end a heavy meal.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Ba Noi's certainly delivers the fresh flavors of Vietnam. It has a wide range of great tasting dishes that I have yet to try. Their dishes are with the freshest and premium quality. The taste of their offerings is authentic Vietnamese. I also greatly appreciate their good intent to educate us on how to eat Vietnamese Cuisines properly. Ambiance is great for hanging out with friends or family. Prices are justified as they serve in large proportion that makes it great for sharing. I highly recommend this place!
