Breakfast Magazine is just a new bi-monthly food and lifestyle magazine by AKME Publishing Group. I've been following this magazine since its first issue. And, each copy was a wonderful read.
Browsing Through
Breakfast Magazine for adapts a new approach in terms of food magazine. Unlike other magazines, Breakfast Magazine offers recipes only from the experts which includes Chef Sau Del Rosario, Chef Sandralyn Hataway, Chef Junjun De Ocampo and Chef Tatung. I like the way they relay their recipes by telling the readers first of their inspiration. It invites us to understand and feel how passionate they are about the food they create. Plus, the recipes are easy to follow with tips and technique too. Breakfast Magazine also has Bloggers Section where fellow foodie bloggers impart their food knowledge.
You may wonder what's the lifestyle part of the magazine. Well, it shares insights and background of celebrity foodies and people who are influential in the food industry. It gives the readers an idea of who they are and what made them deserve their accomplishments. As someone who sees myself as entering entrepreneurship someday, I am also fascinated with the success stories of those who have successfully penetrated the food industry.
Last but not the least, it features food products and places. As a foodie, I am fond of discovering new places to eat at and Breakfast Magazine gives me a visual and well-written hint.

Thanks to the Kulinarya Kalayaan Festival 2012, I got to discover great places to dine for our Filipino dishes. When looking for something more than the traditional, there's C2 Classic Cuisine at Robinson's Midtown. It is offers Pinoy favorites with a twist.
C2 Classic Cuisine has a simple ambiance similar to our Filipino dinning area. It has wooden tables and chairs with picture frames to add a little decor.

C2 Classic Cuisine redefines Filipino dishes like no other. I was impressed with their desserts while the other dishes were just good enough. Since we missed out on trying out their best sellers, I'd like to visit this place again next time.

Cafe Adriatico prides itself in serving a Tsokolate Eh! patterned after the thick hot Spanish chocolate which Padre Salvi, one of the lead characters in Jose Rizal's "Noli me Tangere", favored. It was so rich that during the Spanish era, only the elite were fortunate to be served one. For the faint at heart, they also have the Tsokolate Ah! which is a watered down version of Tsokolate Eh!

Bacolod Chicken Inasal (see previous entry), one of our Filipino favorite restaurant, has partnered with the Department of Tourism in celebration of the "Kulinarya Kalayaan Festival" (June 10-20, 2012). Bacolod Chicken Inasal invites people to Eat Like A Hero where they get to enjoy Rizal's favorite meals.
Food
Ulam ni Rizal sa Paris (379 php)
This meal is formulated from an excerpt of Rizal's letter to his family while in Paris on May 16, 1869:
"We were thinking of eating in the karihan, all of us Filipinos who are in Paris, with wives, young ladies and children. For the occasion, we shall have sinigang and bagoong..."
The Ulam ni Rizal sa Paris includes a choice of Sinigang na Baboy or Sinigang sa Batwan Bangus Belly, a side dish of Grilled Eggplant with Tomatoes and Onions topped with Bagoong, two cups of plain rice and two glasses of ice tea. It is priced at 379 php which grants diners a 41 php savings while eating like a hero.

Merienda ni Rizal
Inspired by the letter of Rizal from Dapitan to Trinidad Rizal which states:
"Natanggap ko ang tatlong sako ng bigas at dalawa pang kahon: is ay naglalaman ng tsokolate... Dito labis kaming nagkakasundo ni Ms. B na gumagawa ng suman."
The Merienda ni Rizal includes a traditional Filipino snack of suman served with organic sugar and bottomless native tsokolate.

Market Cafe: Simply Irresistible Rizal Favorites at Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila (Kulinarya Kalayaan 2012)
My friend Sumi and I are fan of the great food and service at Market Cafe (see previous entry). So when we heard that they are also joining the "Kulinarya Kalayaan Food Festival", we were excited to try out their Rizal inspired offerings.
During the period of the "Kulinarya Kalayaan Food Festival" (June 10-20, 2012), diners can enjoy simply irresistible Rizal's favorite authentic Filipino dishes spread all over their buffet stations.
To be honest, I consider myself as someone that is difficult to impress when it comes to Filipino dishes because it is a cuisine our home is accustomed to. But, I was surprised that each classic Filipino dish that Market Cafe offered was delicious! I can count by fingers the number of times, I enjoyed eating out with Filipino cuisine and this is one of them.

| ♥ Pancit Bihon |
Although the Pancit Bihon is a simple dish, seldom do I find one that has the perfect blend. Market Cafe's Pancit Bihon is cooked just the way I like it. The noodles portrayed the natural flavors of its ingredients. I was able to appreciate the natural sweetness of the seafood and vegetables. The noodles were bouncy, the seafood was tender and the vegetables were crunchy.

| My Sinigang na Ulang |
I find it ingenious that Market Cafe separated the soup of the Sinigang na Ulang from the rest of the ingredients to keep the vegetables fresh and crunchy still throughout the buffet period. But, since the tomatoes and chili was not cooked together with the broth, the tamarind soup lacked the enhanced spiciness and tanginess which those ingredients could provide for.
The Ube Halaya is my favorite among the selection. It was flawlessly smooth, fine and thick. You can taste the gallant ube flavors in every bite as its excellent texture massages through your mouth.
The Turon is thinly sliced banana within a crispy lumpia wrapper and coated in caramel and topped with sesame seeds. I enjoyed the crunchiness of their Turon. But I felt that this was outshone by the other Filipino desserts.
I'm a fan of Puto. I just love this simple steamed cake topped with cheese. It has a nice chewiness in it.
Drinks
We enjoyed the Pandan Tea and the Tablea de Cacao. The Pandan Tea has a light and neutral flavor that makes it a great match to any dish. I also loved their hot Tablea de Cacao. It wasn't pure cocoa. Instead it had a mild peanut butter taste and peanut bits.
Overall, the Rizal Favorites are great additions to their already astounding buffet spread so grab the chance to try them while you can.
