I wonder why... when I'm home I always seem to find something to do that I can't seem to want to go out. Then, I receive an invite for the #LJCXZomatoFoodCrawl. Finally, something draws me out and brings me to our first stop: Lorenzo's Way.
It has an interior that is similar to a heritage Filipino home. It was so comfortable that we didn't notice the time flew by as we sat down and dined.
Food
Caesar (295 php) |
As expected from any LJC group restaurant, classic dishes like this Caesar salad is executed perfectly.
Paellas
♥ Paella Valenciana (650 php) |
These days, I've been eating rice-free meals. But, I guess I'm to weak against the fragrant and flavorful Paella Valenciana. A taste of this was not enough, I had to succumb and devour even to the crispy brownish layer.
Main Courses
Inihaw na Sugpo (675 php) |
Look at the precise grill marks on the Inihaw na Sugpo. You could tell by the looks that each bite into its soft and tender meat delivered a delicious juice that fills your mouth with a wonderful sensation.
♥ Costillas de Ternero Guisada Sharing (750 php) |
I'm happy to be acquainted with the lavishing Costillas de Ternero Guisada. The tender beef had a sauce that an exquisite red wine essence that lingers on your taste buds.
♥ Spanish Garlic Chicken (395 php) |
I don't think there's any dish that could dazzle the entire crowd like the Spanish Garlic Chicken. Who would have thoughts that chicken with a bountiful amounts of garlic cloves would be an irresistible culinary masterpiece? It reminds me of the words of wisdom my mentor Ed shared to us "Your can compare cooking to life. Life is simple, You only need to have the essential ingredients to make you happy."
Black Pata Sharing (850 php) |
The Black Pata is actually one of my favorite Chinese dishes. Unfortunately, we don't cook this at home because it's too tedious to prepare so I am so happy when I get a chance to have this. Our former cook used to cook this dish excellently. Because of him, I had high standards. This version passed my standards in terms of meat texture. It's just too rich and sweet for me.
Vegetables
Adobong Puso ng Saging at Gambas (295 php) |
While the Adobong Puso ng Saging at Gambas does not appear to be as grand as the other dishes, it served an essential part of our meal. It had a refreshing tangy flavor brought by the harmonious mix of vinegar and soy that reset our palates after having the more savory dishes.
Noodles, Pasta, and Rice
♥ Pancit Sotanghon sa Baby Pusit (345 php) |
The Pancit Sotanghon sa Baby Pusit with a hint of kamias and squid ink on the bouncy crystal clear noodles brought a tasty massage in every mouthful. This reminded me of the Pancit Puti which I tried at Mangan. Both were pancit sotanghon dishes with kamias. But, the Pancit Puti had chicken essence while this one had squid ink essence.
Desserts
Gigil Tart (199 php) |
Mango and Almond Panna Cotta (245 php) |
♥ Baklava (275 php) |
Because I'm a huge fan of pistachio nuts, I fully appreciate the Baklava. The Baklava I have encountered in the past is a light, slightly greasy and flaky square type. This is different and has a defining characteristic. It has a crisp coating and crunchy filling. It is not greasy at all. I liked it very much!

I don't kow why I find it difficult to conform to regularity and routines. Can you believe that I can't even wake up at the same time in the morning? But, recently I've been learning from my seniors at work the art of appreciating the comforts of routine, regularity and familiarity. So when at Shangri-la Plaza, I reckoned to dine at the time-tested Kettle instead of other new food joints that I could try.
Ironically, what I expect to be ordinary turned out not so ordinary as I spotted two familiar groups having lunch there as well. Talk about coincidence!
Food
Salads
♥ Smoked Salmon Salad (289 php) |
As a healthy portion of my meal, I ordered the Smoked Salmon Salad. I don't intend to elaborate on how I love greens and smoked salmon. Just finding out how I find eating salads like this is comforting is surprising enough for many.
Soups & Appetizers
Clam Chowder (259 php) |
Apart from salads, I love soups. Being easily cold, soups have always been something that brings me comfort. Among all cream-based soups, Clam Chowder is my second favorite. Kettle makes them hearty and flavorful just the way I like it.
Main Course
♥ Buttermilk Fried Chicken (559 php) |
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
I never thought I'd like Buttermilk Fried Chicken before I encountered one from Kettle. I bet I'd come back even more just for it.

A few months ago, I was contemplating to be a member of a gym to motivate myself to work out. My friend V volunteered to orient me with the two types of Fitness First Gyms. The one in Trinoma is a platinum one so he invited me to try a spin class there (my first time to try a spin class...) which got me hungry (apart from being exhausted) so we ended up eating at Denny's.
Due to a misunderstanding, V showed up late so it was a chain reaction to our work out schedule. We finished late and Denny's is one of the few establishments still open within the mall vicinity.
Skillets
♥ Skillet Wrap (335 php) |
I ordered the Skillet Wrap because of its attractive visual presentation as highlighted in the menu. It was a wise choice because it was so good!!!

Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
As we can observe from the current status of our food industry, being a foreign franchises does not guarantee that it will succeed here in the Philippines. I think when it comes to sustaining restaurant chain franchises, the Bistro Group tops my list. Thus, I was more or less certain before entering Denny's that it will offer a wonderful dining experience and it surely did. Aside from the good food, the servers are noticeably trained to be accommodating. They also solicit feedback after each meal. Other restaurants should learn from them on this aspect.

I have observed that most people let life's routine consume most of their time and energy. Yet, there are others, like my family, who seem to have an endless flow of energy and enthusiasm towards food discoveries and making more out of life. While I belong to the former, I occasionally allow myself to be dragged along for family bonding's sake. This time, we drove all the way to the south just to have some ramen at Sigekiya.
It is located at the Commercial Center. I haven't revisited that place for six years so I was surprised that it was totally different from what I remembered. It had a couple of stores and restaurants but not much people.
I've read from blogs that Sigekiya originated from Yokohoma Japan and was established in 2010. I wonder why they don't state such in its signage though.

I'm so glad I get to try Sigekiya. Even with our 4-hour travel, I felt it was worth the try. (Well, maybe because I wasn't the one driving! =)

Seems Sigekiya has managed to have a continuous influx of people though.

It's actually that fact that made us excited us to try it. According to their menu, they offer their distinct shoyu broth and grilled chashu. It also offered spiciness level for its ramen and tsukemen. Our server said that they were serious that level is 1 to 100.
Food
Side Dish
Gyoza 5 pcs. (130 php) |
Gyoza is a must-order for the family. Having tried so many gyoza versions, I could say that I rarely encounter a disappointing gyoza when it is served by an authentic Japanese franchise. This circumstance is no different.
Chicken Karaage (180 php) |
Just like the gyoza, we always order the chicken karaage. This is the first time we've encountered the Chicken Karaage served in chicken strip portions. We loved the idea cause smaller size means more crunchiness!
Okonomiyaki (150 php) |
We ordered the Okonomiyaki because of the unique presentation as shown in their menu. Sadly, we still prefer the texture of the okonomiyaki cooked teppanyaki-style on top of a stainless steel flat grill.
Tsukemen
Tsukemen with Japanese Curry Regular (370 php) |
The Tsukemen with Japanese Curry Regular is a good option to try. I had this at level 3 and each slurp was a comforting experience for me. I liked this better than other tsukemens I've tried yet.
Ramen
♥ Sigekiya Ramen Regular (360 php) |
We were impressed with their Sigekiya Ramen. It's different from most ramens here. The consistency is thicker and richer. You could say the same for the flavor.
♥ Sigekiya Ramen Regular (360 php) |
It comes with a lot of toppings so expect it be a fulfilling bowl.
Miso Ramen Regular (360 php) |
The Miso Ramen didn't stand out as something worth remembering. On the bright side, it still comes with their delicious chashu!
Complimentary Frozen Jellies |
Their Complimentary Frozen Jellies was unexpected yet well-appreciated! I liked the idea of freezing the jelly so I adopted it even at home. =)
