I've noticed that many food places and bars have strategically positioned themselves near colleges and universities. Perhaps if it was like that during my college days, I wouldn't be so anti-social. Well, anyway there's a new Tex-Mex place called Coyotoe Cocina!
While many of the establishments are still closed, Coyotoe Cocina alone is worth the visit.
I really like the spacious and modern design as well as the spacious dining and parking area of The Pop Up Katipunan. But, I can't imagine how hot this place is during the day time so I would suggest that you go at night.
I think its really the ideal home for a Coyote Cocina.
The ambience is minimalist. Aside from a few wall arts and artifacts to hint of its tex-mex influence, there isn't much to see.
It has a counter wherein you can see its open kitchen...
and a few tables. It offers two kinds of tables: (1) ordinary square wooden table (2) a long table with built in beer coolers.
Food
This is the first time I've encountered a concept that uses quality local ingredients to make authentic Tex-Mex flavor. I really like the idea because it still delivers satisfaction to the customers while boosting our local economy and it is sustainable for the establishment.
I recall my former favorite Tex-Mex place: Orale! - a small hole-in-the-wall serving authentic Tex-Mex dishes which closed down. Perhaps, it was because of the high price of its imported ingredients that made it impossible for it to survive.
Appetizers
Coyote Wings (160 php)
These Coyote Wings are deceiving! It didn't look appealing to me but when I tried it I just had to grab more of it before my companions could. Its unlike any wing I've tried before. There's something magical with the coating. The wings itself has subtle flavor but it really works with the dip.
Nachos Large (280 php)
The Nachos are also one of the best I've tried! I think the secret is in the beans!
Coyote Rice Plates
Beef Barbacoa (250 php)
I definitely like more of its beans with these! I know it doesn't look filling but once you eat it, you'll realize that this Beef Barbacoa platter is good for two. If the meat could be more tender, this would definitely be better.
Pork Belly (250 php)
There is not much disparity between the satisfaction you will get from either the Beef Barbacoa or Pork Belly Rice Plates. It's just a matter of preference on which type of meat you want to go for.
Carnitas Plate (250 php)
On the other hand, the Carnitas was a bit dry.
Tacos
Carnitas Trio (175 php)
If you want to try the Carinitas, go for the taco version with the Carnitas Trio.
Enchiladas
Doble (185 php)
My favorite item on the Coyote Cocina menu would probably be the Doble Enchiladas. I think the proportion and preparation of this is perfect! I really like the
Burrito
Coyotes Macho Burrito (190 php)
If you prefer a handful one, the Coyotes Macho Burrito is an alternative to the Enchiladas.
Drinks
Tequila Shots
Corona Extra
Ice cold beer anyone?
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
You can surely count on Coyote Cocina for authentic Tex-Mex dishes made from quality local ingredients. Definitely check this place out! The price is student friendly too!

It's been a very long time since the girls of The Foodies Circle met. I haven't seen the girls since last year! Naturally, a hangout together is long overdue. And, there's no better place to chill over good food and chill than Applebee's which we have long wanting to try.
We all rarely go to Eastwood so coming from the side, we didn't see Applebee's at first. Good thing they had a sign by their stairs pointing us to go up.
When we got up, we were surprised to see how big and spacious the place was. The interiors gave a hint of a laid back kind of bar.
After the first portion, there are more booths that for many would be more comfortable and well-suited for dining.
Yet, it still keeps the same dim and yellow hued lighting. Some parents would find it to be too dark as a family restaurant but then for me, some family restaurants like Tony Roma's is even darker.
Food
Appetizer
There were a lot of interesting appetizer options. But, we were really intrigued by the Fried Sweet & Spicy Pickles. Upon trying this out, we felt that we made the right choice. The boys were more delighted than us since this is an amazing bar chow.
Salads
Applebee's menu has an extensive menu including greens. So glad they have salads because I always aim for a balance meal. The Grilled Watermelon & Spicy Shrimp Salad swooned all of us. I like the ying and yang between the grilled watermelon offered a sweet fruity flavor and the spicy shrimp added a nice kick together. Together with the feta cheese, yogurt dressing and almond, this salad is the bomb!
If you like a very bold spicy, sweet and salty flavors to go with your greens, get the Buffalo Chicken Salad. But, most of us found the taste to be strikingly sharp for our taste buds.
Pasta
Since I'm crazy for spinach dips, seeing the Spinach Artichoke and Grilled Chicken Cavatappi instantly lured me to order it. However, we all felt that the spinach being fried in this case was too subtle to create a good balance against the creamy artichoke sauce.
Chicken and Fish
If there was an order we would not have made, it would be the Teriyaki Balsamic Glazed Salmon. The thick salmon slice was not cooked as evenly as we would have hoped.
Local Favorites
So I suggest ditch the Teriyaki Balsamic Glazed Salmon for the wholesome Applebee's Pork Liempo Adobo.
Sandwiches, Tacos and More
The BBQ Beef Brisket Tacos is served quesadillas style with dips and sauce.
Burgers
Okay if you're looking for an instant heart attack, get the Triple Meat All-In Burger! Just kidding! But, wow this is one bad-ass burger with USDA beef burger patty, double smoked bacon, honey barbecued shredded beef brisket with cheddar cheese.
Desserts
We all yearned for an evident banana taste from the Banofee Cheesecake. We can't help but feel disappointed that the banana component is just the banana chips. I suggest that you order this for sharing because the cheesecake is very rich and dense.
I highly recommend the S'Mores Creme Brulee as a meal ender. The slightly burnt marshmallows and rich dark chocolate fudge with caramelized crisp is wonderfully comforting to eat. I never thought that smores could presented like this! It is fun, appealing and delicious!

We surely had a great time over Applebee's New Menu for 2017. I have so much more to try so I'm coming back with the family next time!

A few weeks ago, Berylle invited Sumi and me to have our supposedly annual Christmas Lunch (late by a few months) at Tittos Latin BBQ & Brew.
I was really looking forward to meeting the girls because we haven't seen each other for almost a year! I'm mostly guilty for the difficulty with the schedule...
I was surprised at how huge, bright and colorful the place was.
Everything meshed together gave a casual and festive vibe.
And if your looking for a more cozy experience, check out this cool lofts on the second floor.
Food
Platittos! (Small Plates/Starters)
Better bring the whole gang if you're ordering the Nacho el Gigante. We failed to finish this.
I never thought I'd love a char-grilled corn until I tried Elote.
But, I'm still as lazy so I prefer Elote in this form. It's a brilliant idea for them to offer diners an option.
The Tittos Wings is sweet and spicy. A well-made combination of barbecue and chiptotle.
If I could have a bowlful of my favorites placed in a single dish, it would be the Carne Asada Frittas. Let's see it has grilled skirt steak, melted mozarella and cheddar cheese, molted egg and chimichurri.
Fellow mushroom lovers, let's rejoice over addition of oyster mushroom chicharones. I think that is what made the Gambas con Setas sensational for me.
The Churassco Beef Salpicao is a savory and garlicky treat with big chunks of tender beef cubes.
Quezadilla
The Pollo Pizzadilla is an open-face tortilla with grilled chicken and pimientos bits drizzled with cheese, sour cream and chimichurri. This reminds me of a crispy thin crust pizza but with its unique Mexican twist.
Street Tacos
I love street tacos so I was quite delighted to try some again. The Beef Barbacoa is my favorite among those we tried because of the delicious slow cooked beef belly bits.
The Sisig with liver sauce is simply irresistible. Everyone adored this!
I could never have expected that the salted egg craze which is an Asian innovation could work as a taco. The Salted Egg Shrimp is so good!
Paellera! (Paella)
Perhaps the texture of the rice isn't perfect but taste-wise, I couldn't have wished for a more flavorful Paella de Carne.
I love the surprising tinapa ingredient in the Arroz Negra. This is a must try!
Entradas! (Mains)
I wonder if there was just too many dishes but I don't remember anything remarkable about the
Pollo Asado. But, I highly recommend eating it with the sweet mango relish.
The Costillitas or their version of cuban baby back ribs is perfect! A visit isn't complete without it. The price is so reasonable too.
For men and meat lovers who crave for meat in every meal, the 18 Hour Gaucho Steak is of course a must order.

Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
There's no other place that can offer a fun and playful twist to latin food like Tittos Latin BBQ and Brew. I have to commend Chef Jerwyn Rabo for his instinctive choice in ingredients in delivering comfort food for the soul. And, the price is so reasonable that you can easily invite and share your delightful experience with your friends and family.
