Ever since I got to try the pioneer branch of Osaka Ohsho at SM Megamall Fashion Hall, I've already envisioned it opening another branch. Years gone by and finally, Osaka Ohsho opens its second branch at SM North Edsa The Block. And opening at the same time also by Relic Group is Cafe Kumori.
The invite is very simple and it didn't leave any details except for the time and place. So I bet the guests were all pleasantly surprised with the Japanese Picnic Party Theme.
The table setting is lovely!
Shobe got so enthusiastic with their coloring activity. She managed to finish the Osaka Ohsho coloring card using the watercolor pencils and brushing it with water after. While the Kumori Coloring Page was half done until now because she found it too difficult.
Osaka Ohsho
The event was graced by the owners Linfred Yap, Weiser Co and celebrities such as Tim Yap who is also Linfred's cousin.
The interior is a bit different from the pioneer branch. I think this one maximized the space better.
Osaka Ohsho's menu keeps on expanding. I've featured some of the items I've tried here, here and here.
And, I just found out there are more items to try like their Kimchi Gyoza.
Cafe Kumori
Just like in other countries which have the Cafe Kumogi, we now a Cafe Kumori.
This is Kumori's first stand-alone bakery.
The glass shelves display their wide pastry collection.
Some of them are apparently non-consumable.
I think this is the only section for self-service?
The cakes which are chilled are by the counter.
Because it is a cafe, diners can seat in while enjoying their drink and pastry offerings.
These are most of Kumori's products. Having tried only a few as I've shared here and here, I have to admit I was more excited for this than Osaka Ohsho.
These are the ones we got to try. Among these, the Hanjuku Cheese is still the best for me. The rest had a noticeably sweeter blend.
For drinks, the Matcha Milkshake and Choco Hazelnut Milkshake was served. They were very fab see? The Matcha Milkshake was very light. I can't help but compare it to Osaka Ohsho's Matcha Milk Smoothie which I love. Many had falled in love with the very sweet Choco Hazelnut Milkshake. The guests beside us told us that the Japanese Sweet Corn Milkshake is the best among the three milkshake offerings. They ordered for us but they never came. And, I'll use that as a reason to come back and try more of their products so watch up for more updates! Till next time!

Shobe's worked hard on this masterpiece and gifted it to me! Sweet right? Have this by my desk side. =) |

As SM North Edsa is so crowded on a weekend afternoon, I found it very comforting to chill at TamaYaki.
TamaYaki is an international takoyaki and milk tea chain that originated from China and has now over 200 stores internationally as it already has franchises in Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Singapore, Australia and Spain.
It has a hip and retro interior that's very distinct to it. The ordering takes place by the counter. For the drinks, don't forget to indicate your desired sugar level. You will be given their cute number stub and wait for it to be displayed on the monitor.
I really like their design especially the lighting.
The ccharacters are so cute!
Food
They have a very nice packaging for their Tamayaki. Did I mention, that their takoyaki is bigger than average? And, it has a crunchy coating too. It actually reminded me of the crunchy sensation when eating Hash Brown. Because of their huge serving size, I suggest you better bring some company so you can share and try more flavors or just add more toppings for 25-35 php each. Otherwise, you'll be satisfied with just one order.
The Seasoned Octopus is the classic takoyaki I've grown accustomed too with sliced octopus and cabbage topped with nori strips, bonito flakes and sweet takoyaki sauce. But, in addition, they also offered the white Japanese mayo (for non-spicy lovers) and spicy curry sauce (for spicy lovers)
I was really intrigued with the Mussel & Cheese because I've never tried something similar before.
To identify your orders, they have a label on the box.
Each piece has a mussel, shredded cabbage and melted mozzarella cheese. The Mussel & Cheese is my favorite among all our orders.
We were really surprised that they offered the Korean Pork BBQ because takoyaki is Japanese and the brand originated in China.
The Korean Pork BBQ was pretty good as it contained a Korean-spiced pork cube along with the cabbage.
If you love mozzarella, the Double Cheese is for you.
Drinks
Milk Tea
For their tea selections, you can choose either Hot or Cold. I got to try the Sake Milk Tea with Rice Ball which had a harmless amount of sake. My friends liked it because of the sake. They say it was very smooth despite the alcohol. As I'm not an alcoholic drinker, it didn't appeal to me so I traded it with a friend for the Tamayaki Milk Tea with Pearl Cold (85 php). The blend of tea is not strong but not too light either.
They only have one size which is the tall cup you're seeing. I ordered Matcha Milk Tea with Adzuki Bean. It was really good even though I opted to have it without sugar.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
TamaYaki offers next-level takoyaki selections unlike any other. I could see why it's popularity has sweeped many countries. Their crunchy coated and huge-sized takoyaki with special fillings are worth coming back for. The price may seem hefty but really it's not as you're sure to be full after snacking. The awesome ambiance is another plus.

Vikings: American Independence Day Menu Set at SM North Edsa
SM City North Edsa Scenic Skywalk, Quezon City, Philippines
I didn't know that Vikings had a monthly theme special. I was invited to sample their American Independence Day Menu Set for the month of July.
Although with the same theme, each branch had the freedom to make their own menu selection. I was fortunate to try Vikings at SM North Edsa.
Food
Appetizer
The Tortilla Club Sandwich is a tortilla wrap with cheddar cheese, ham, turkey, lettuce and chopped black olives with thousand island dressing. This is delicious!
The Niagara Falls Maki is my favorite among the three. It really stands out because it has noodles and sauce on top of it. It's very flavorful since it has vinegar, mayonnaise, avocado, mango, citrus, Japanese soy sauce, and tuna. The Maryland Maki was popular among my companions. It's a fried roll wrapped in nori (seaweed) and filled with crabstick, carrot, mango, strawberry sauce and mango puree. The Maguro Haru Maki has chicken teriyaki, asparagus, carrot, tuna and crabstick with mango puree with cream sauce.
Salad
The Chicago Summer Corn Salad has cheese, diced cucumber, onions and tomatoes and corn kernels. It was very light and refreshing.
Soup
I love chowder soups! This Boston Clam Chowder Soup is really top-notch and definitely one of the best I've had. This even beats some of those I've tried in expensive fine dining restaurants. It has a very creamy broth that delivers a rich clam flavor. It also has fine cubes of carrots, celery, green onions and potato. Everything especially the potato was cooked with precision! It is also served with a cheese bread stick.
Main Course
The California Grilled Fish is an impressive gindara dish marinated for 24 hours in orange marmalade. It was praised by everyone. The Agli Olio with Roasted Bell Pepper is an angel hair pasta with parmesan, chopped green olives, green bell pepper and tomatoes. I don't usually enjoy oil-based pasta. But, this is exceptional!
I found the Lemon Sorbet a bit too thick and sweet. It's refreshing if taken only in small amount.
The Indiania's Pork Loin with Cranberry Sauce or Ginger Lime Gaze is tender but a bit dry. The Ginger Lime Gaze is sweet as it is caramelized. The Jambalaya Louisiana Rice is flavorful! I'm told the secret is that it has 8 spices along with its tomato base. The Mississippi's Turkey Sweet Potato Shepherd's Pie is such a nice comfort food. The top layer is a smooth finely mashed potato and underneath is akin to a tomato-based turkey stew with chickpeas.
I had my Tenderloin with Red Wine Sauce and Horse Radish Sauce cooked medium so its pink and not bloddy wet. I liked both the sauces. The beef was tender with a light taste of thyme and pepper.
Westerners enjoy their roast dinners with the Yorkshire Pudding which is made using the meat drippings. It's my first time to encounter one so I was ecstatic to try it. This one is heavy and dense. According to my research, this should be puffy and airy as it is eaten like a dinner roll.
Pastry
The Boston Cream Pie is sinfully delightful! The top layer is a thick, rich and creamy dark chocolate ganache. The next layer is a smooth almond cream followed by chocolate mousse and the soft crust. The New York Cheesecake has a heavy, dense, rich and chewy texture. The Cherry Cashew Parfaits is light and simple.
