While we love Singaporean Cuisine, we've noticed how restaurants serving Singaporean food in Manila are slowing withering away one after another. Just last June the long standing TTK Authentic Singapore & Asian Foods has transformed into Ho Asian Food Services.
We have always wanted to try TTK for the longest time. One of the hindrance that deferred our visit is the fact that it is closed during Sundays. Finally, we managed to dine but surprised that it is now Ho still with numerous offerings despite dropping the Singaporean distinction. Singaporean Cuisine is well-known for having one of the most diversified food choices having influences from the Chinese, Indian, Malay and more so you can say that it is a substantial representation of Asian foods.
The dining set up is casual and spacious. Ho also has a function room which you can reserve for a bigger gathering or events and offers catering services.

If Ho can boast of one thing, it would be its Roti Pratha. This Roti Pratha served hot, soft and chewy makes it one of the best in the Metro.

Singapore Laksa - Seafood (288 php) |
The Singapore Laksa - Seafood is another mild version. Flavor is, of course, subject to preference so this could be what you are yearning for.
Nasi Goreng (288 php) |
I rarely encounter a Nasi Goreng, which literally means "Fried Rice" in the Indonesian and Malay language. From the appearance, it could look like any fried rice. However, the secret ingredients that define the Nasi Goreng are the (1) kecap manis (sweet soy sauce) and (2) shrimp paste.
Drinks
Hot Tea |
there are a lot of Singaporean beverage options.
♥ Singapore Teh Tarik Cold (80 php) |
♥ Singapore Coffee Hot (58 php) |
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
There are only a handful of food establishments like Ho Asian Food Services that offers an expansive Asian menu. The price point too is average for a diner situated within the busy district of Makati which makes it a reasonable option when in the area. We feel that this place deserves more appreciation but just lacks the both formal and informal marketing.

Last week, the family checked out the Symphony of Lights at Ayala Triangle. There was a BIG crowd and I guess that wore us out and got us hungry. We decided to revisit Wee Nam Kee.
Food
As expected, there are new dishes to try!
The Claypot Chicken Rice is my new found favorite Wee Nam Kee. As the name implies, it is a rice topping served in an earthenware. It has slices of chicken, Chinese chorizo, black mushrooms, onion leeks and ginger in oyster sauce.
The National dish of Indonesia Beef Rendang is another favorite of mine. This has the right blend of spices, coconut milk and tomato sauce to whet your appetite. And, the beef is so tender that the tendons melts in your mouth.
The hearty and sumptous Bak Kuh Teh' is filled with a generous portion of pork ribs, black mushrooms, tofu, garlic, herbs and spices. This is so comforting as if you're looking for something to warm up your tummy.
The Singaporean Beef is a must try if you want to skip rice for noodles. It's so savory. The meat is so soft that it complements the noodles well.
It's a great idea that Wee Nam Kee has introduced dishes that recognizes the united flavors of Singapore. With consistently great-tasting dishes, another visit in the future is expected!

Hainanese Delights: Hainanese Chicken That Fits the Budget (Robinsons Place Manila)
Manila, Metro Manila, Philippines
If there's something I'm not proud of... that would be my laziness. Yes! There are many times in a week that I don't feel like preparing for my meal or cleaning up my mess after. And, there are days when I can't afford to be lazy so I resort to my cheap eats favorites. One of them is Hainanese Delights.
Before Hainanese Delights came, I've always classified Hainanese Chicken as a luxurious and expensive dish. But, now I can have it as often as I want.
Food
Each table has the usual sauces.
Each order will entitle you to their complimentary hainanese chicken broth with lots of salt and MSG soup. For the price, you really can't complain.
I only order 1 item on the menu each time and that is the Hainanese Delights. If you order the whole, you have to order the rice separately.
If you order the meals, it automatically comes with two cups of their justifiably tasty (or salty) chicken or hainan rice. The rice is unlimited so you can get a refill if you want more.
If you order for take-out you'll be missing the unlimited hainan rice perk but if you're not a carbo-loader like me, two cups of rice is enough right?
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Hainanese Delights is one of the few places that offers hainanese chicken that fits the budget. In fact, I've yet to encounter one that bits its market penetrating pricing scheme. It's so affordable I bet everyone has considered trying or has tried it.

One of our family favorite Singaporean restaurant is Boon Tong Kee.
For a Singaporean franchise, I don't know why it's not drawing any crowd like its competitors. Their dishes are consistently good.
Food
The Signature Boil Chicken is what most know as the Hainanese Chicken. You can simply judge just from its appearance that it so tasty, soft, moist and tender.
It comes with chicken rice.
The Coffee Spare Ribs with thick, rich and bitter-sweet sauce is another item that we usually order. The coating is a bit crunchy and the spare rib meat is very tender. This is so good when paired with rice.
The Poached Chinese Spinach with Assorted Egg is one of the best vegetable dishes I've ever encountered. It sounds and looks simple but I bet cooking this has a secret technique somehow.
The Crispy Tofu is consistently beautifully cooked. The fried skin is so thin and delicate. The tofu inside is smooth and top-notch too. It really goes well with their wasabi sauce.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Boon Tong Kee is and will always be our default Singaporean stop whenever in SM Mall of Asia. For the authenticity and quality they offer, the price is really affordable.

Way back in high school, my classmates and I would sneakily eat behind the teacher's back just for fun. We Tsinoys call that "Taw Cha". We would take turns bringing snacks and share it with the group. One day, my classmate brought Kopi Roti which was entirely new for me.
I asked where he bought it and brought home some for the family as a surprise. They loved it too and since then we've been loyal customers.

When dining in, our usual order is Set E: 1 pc. Kopi Bun with Coffee (or tea). Kopi Roti's Coffee is pretty good for such an affordable price.
But,our favorite is really their Kopi Bun. Just its coffee and butter aroma can wake me up from a drowsy state. When I was in high school, this was only 30 php. Naturally, it's been price has increased like the rest of the commodities.
The Kopi Bun has a thin flavorful crispy coffee crust with followed by its soft and fluffy dough with warm butter in the middle. Whenever we spot a Kopi Roti branch, we'd buy some of this for take home. They have a nice packaging for 6 pieces with matching paper bag. We enjoy eating this for breakfast or merienda. It's easy to reheat. We just use the electric oven toaster.
It's our first time to try the Kaya Puff which was smaller in size and topped with powdered sugar.
It was not as crisp as the Kopi Bun. Instead of butter, it had the Kaya spread. It was pale in comparison to our all-time favorite Kopi Bun.
They also offer the Soft Boiled Eggs which was prepared the Singaporean way. It has 2 soft boiled eggs mixed with black soy sauce and sprinkled with white pepper. I'm not a big fan of this style since I love my eggs plain as I appreciate the egg yolk flavor but some prefer eating eggs this way. If you haven't tried this, you should try it out for yourself.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Over the years, we've tried coffee buns from local bakeshops and international franchises but nothing even comes close to Kopi Roti! It is still our favorite Kopi Buns and I think it's pretty tough to beat.
