San Juan, Metro Manila, Philippines
This Christmas season, Chef Laudico Guevarra's will be offering special Christmas dishes and also an in between meal time for the Weekday Maagang Salu-Salo and Weekend Maagang Salu-Salo (from 5 pm to 6:30 pm). A portion of the proceeds will be for the benefit of Children's Joy Foundation, a center for disadvantaged children that Guevarra's has been supporting for four years.
The buffet starts at exactly 11 am. As you can see people are anxious feast with its offerings .
There are lots of waiting space at the garden. And, they have sufficient parking space.
The house built in the 1920's exudes a classic heritage feel. It is blended with contemporary influence with the autographed plates and paintings hanged on its walls. It's multiple function rooms makes it perfect for occasions and events. During my second visit, I heard that Goldilocks was having a Christmas Party.
Soup
For soup, you have the option of having Tinolang Manok and Nilagang Baka.
Appetizer
The highlight of the appetizer is the Christmas Chicken Liver Parfait.
Salad
For Salad, there's Kamote Salad, Ensaladang Pinoy, Tomato Salsa, Pipino Salad and the seasonal Christmas Macaroni Salad.
I enjoyed the ♥ Squid Law which was a mix of grilled squid and liempo but it seems the Tokwa't Baboy is more popular.
Finger Foods
For Fingers Foods, there's an assortment of Pizza, Ubod Cones, Cheese Sticks, Crispy Crablets and Shrimp.
Main Dishes
There are over 10 dishes of Main Dishes to choose from. The Fish Mayonesa is a special Christmas dish.
I suggest that you try the ♥ Seafood Ala Pobre.
I liked the ♥ Pork Dinuguan because it's meaty.
The ♥ Malolos Na Hipon is also highly recommended. I've seen it refilled over and over.
Carving Station
The ♥ Roast Turkey with Cornmeal Stuffing is part of the Maagang Salu-Salo. But, other meat options are more in demand like the ♥ Angus Beef...
and the ♥ Bagnet.
If those meats are not enough, there is also the Angus Tapa, Liempo, ♥ Ribs and Chicken BBQ.
Other Christmas Dishes
Other Christmas dishes that can be available are Beef Morcon...
Embutido Lasagna Roll...
and Christmas Paella.
Dessert
My companion loved the Christmas Suman Fruitcake.
My top picks are the ♥ Puto Bumbong, ♥ Maja Blanca and ♥ Buko Pandan.
Other Christmas Desserts
In addition to the regular desserts, there's the Classic Christmas Pudding...
and Bibingka.
Halo-Halo Station
You can also make your own Halo-Halo.
or have some Soft-served Ice Cream.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
If you're looking for a hearty and affordable Filipino buffet with a cozy ambiance, Chef Laudico Guevarra's is a great choice. It's a place where you can bring Balikbayans or blow out with your friends. It is also great for occasions and events whether big or small.

5th Taste Modern Japanese Cuisine: Affordable Japanese Fusion Dinner (Near Wilson Addition Hills San Juan)
San Juan, Metro Manila, Philippines
One time I took my little sister for a tea date at Tamayaki in Addition Hills, we noticed that there was a Japanese restaurant in the second floor called 5th Taste Modern Japanese Cuisine.
We didn't see the interiors in the second floor. But, the menu on the front door at the entrance of Tamayaki gave us an idea that it was modern Japanese.
Food
Starters
When the Deconstructed Miso Soup was served, I had the impression that the plating was of European or French influence. I was really impressed with the Deconstructed Miso Soup because it never imagined that a miso soup and meat floss would complement each other well.
I was expecting something interesting with the Mussels Tempura. Unfortunately, it failed to impress me as the batter was too thick that eve the sauce or the mussel was able to entice my appetite.
Sushi
I ate a few pieces of the Smoked Mackarel Maki. I was able to distinguish the spicy tinge in each piece but I had a hard time trying to taste the smoked mackarel.
Sandwiches
The The Fifth Taste Cheesesteak deliciously cheesy. I liked that it had mozzerella aside from the cheese sauce. Unlike the other cheese steaks with hard and crunchy buns, this one is pillow soft that my fingers sinks in as I held it.
Omurice Curry
I like the idea that they separately served the Crispy Chicken and the Curry Rice to assure the crispiness. The Curry Rice is similar to the Fuwatoro Tenshin-Han of Osaka Ohsho where high quality Japanese rice is wrapped in fluffy egg omelet and gooey cheese except tthat it comes with curry sauce. For the price, I find the quality remarkable. But, the crispy chicken could lose a bit batter coating so we it could bring out more of the chicken meat.
Pizza
My favorite dish for the night is the Kani Salad Pizza. If had an extremely thin and crispy crust with heavy gooey cheese, kani, cucumber, carrots and Japanese Mayo. I comes with nori flakes and chili powder. I can't figure out how they managed to make the crust so thin and crispy without any sogginess or oiliness from the cheese.
Main Course
I'd give the Jalapeno Cream Cheese Onion Tonkatsu A+ for effort with the presentation. I also consider this dish as the tastiest among all our orders. It had a Jalapeno cream cheese sauce with caramelize onions inside the tonkatsu. It is served with Japanese coleslaw and Tonkatsu sauce. I prefer this without the Tonkatsu sauce because I found it contrasting the spicy Jalapeno Cream cheese.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
5th Taste Modern Japanese Cuisine is surprisingly cheap for its concept. I find their pricing budget-friendly especially the pizza. For that reason, it would be a great hang out with some company if in the area. It offers great privacy and it has a parking area too. But, it's not something I'd seek out and travel for.

Cafe Sanso: Artistic and Cozy Cafe Next to Museo Sanso (P Guevarra San Juan City)
San Juan, Metro Manila, Philippines
We were hoping to check out Museo Sanso right next to it. Unfortunately, it was closed for renovation.
It has a beautiful al fresco area. My lil sis and I can't help but imagine how romantic and magical this set up can be at night.
Walking in, we first noticed the counter with a chiller.
Deli
They have a selection of meat cuts and cheeses available for sale.
We love the artistic play of colors and the minimalist and clean vibe that exudes coziness.
You can check the art of famous artist Sanso and other artists while waiting for your orders.

Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Although newly opened, Cafe Sanso has already flocks of customers seeking its quality drinks and food. And, I can understand why. It serves quality dishes with top-notch ingredients. The staff is very friendly so you feel so welcomed. Our experience was superb! I'd definitely drop by again if in the area. I hope their coffee is available by then as lil sis was quite disappointed when we found out that they don't have it yet.
