Lemuria.
For this meal, we were presented with a tantalizing menu of Lemuria
classics.
Food
As an appetizer to the entire dining experience, we were given their home-made breads which are freshly prepared in-store using hand-churned butter. Among their selection are French Baguette, Walnut Loaf made with walnut, honey and molasses, and Foccaccia with sundried tomato. These are complimentary and served along any meal purchased :)
Finishing up the main course was a serving of their Beef Bourguignon. As with all flavorful
meats, this was braised and marinated for 2-3 days; Lemuria braises theirs in
red wine reduction and slow cooks it for a full 8 hours. The effort is very
evident with a beef that is absolutely melt in your mouth and flavorful,
further complemented by the sweetness that comes with a side of shallots. This
was my favorite dish for the evening.
A sweet ending to a perfect meal, the meal ended with
a dessert bearing the restaurant’s own name, the Lemuria Cheesecake. Arguably very popular, this is not just like
any other cheesecake. Lemuria uses a combination of Carabao’s Milk, Goat’s
Cheese, and Dulce de Leche to achieve a distinct and original cheesecake flavor
that is full, creamy with a harmonious blend of dairy. Topped with their
homemade strawberry compote and this dessert was just the perfect way to end
the night.

The name whirls me away to a romantic chateau surrounded by
lush evergreen in Horseshoe Village, Quezon City. There are many important
occasions celebrated in this space—anniversaries and birthdays just to name a
few—owing to the restaurant’s private and intimate dining experience. News of a
second branch in BGC immediately piqued my curiosity; how would Lemuria
translate the exclusivity and intimacy of its restaurant in its new metropolitan
neighborhood?
The new branch, surrounded by concrete and glass panels, is worlds away from the original outlet and yet still manages to exude the charm and warmth of the original. The proprietress, Mrs. Marina Schroeder, likens the new branch to a country home and fills the space with her personal touches to achieve that same feeling you get from the Quezon City branch—a place you go to for something special (by the way, the restaurant strictly enforces a dress code for any patron: men must come in collared shirts, and strictly no one is allowed in wearing slippers!)
Food
Foie Gras Trio (1,150 php)
First, we were served Pan-Seared Foie Gras, just one of the three ways Lemuria prepares Foie Gras offered in their Foie Gras Trio. Lemuria prides itself in using only ethically fattened ducks and pairs this with a sweet and sour Balsamic Reduction and a refreshing watermelon to cut through the buttery fat. Absolute melt in your mouth goodness.
| Braised Lamb & Apricot Galette |(365 php) |
Next came a sample of their Braised Lamb & Apricot Galette. Soft and tender lamb tinged with just a hint of sweetness coming from the apricot and shallots made for a clean and light end to the appetizer and a great way to begin the next half of the spread—the main course.
Seabass (1,260 php)
After a quick round of red wine, out came the Seabass atop a bed of mushroom risotto. The Seabass was absolutely fresh with meat so tender and just the right balance of flavors. The risotto accompanying provided a needed creaminess though with a mushroom flavor just a bit too light for my preference.
Duck Leg Confit w/ Cassoulet (1,310 php)
Following seafood was fowl and we were served a sample
of their Duck Leg Confit w/ Cassoulet.
We were told that the duck had been brined for 2-3 days prior to
preparation
and that the cassoulet that accompanied the duck took years to
perfect--perfection defined as getting the beans to achieve a texture in
between mushy and al dente.
Beef Bourguignon (940 php)
Lemuria Cheesecake (294 php)

For decades, we've grown to love Racks for living up to its promise of delivering the best ribs in town. Then surprise surprise, a new cooler and younger brother called Rackshack comes along.
Like all younger brothers, there's a bigger pressure of living up to the expectations set by its older brother.
With a brighter and hipper vibe and long tables allowing for social eating, it bears no influence of its older brother.
Aside from the name, I bet you couldn't tell just by the looks of the place right?

To properly differ from its good and stable older brother, it also offers booze to heighten the social and dining experience.
Food
Ridiculously Good Appetizers
Being born after an older brother, Rackshack sure knows that sharing is caring! It offers appetizers that are fun to enjoy with company like the Ridiculous Nachos...
Onion Strings...
and Skinny Fries.
Its salad isn't as grand but it is more affordable than what Racks has to offer.
Rackshack offers 5 sauces: Mother Sauce (signature house blend), Spicy Mother Sauce, Hoisin Sauce, Carolina Gold (mustard base) and Kansas Sauce (sweet and spicy). I
I enjoyed the Creole Garlic Shrimp.
If I recall correctly, Racks also has an item similar to the Crack Fried Chicken.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
So that's what you can expect from Racks cooler and younger brother Rackshack. Should we welcome it with open arms and love it just like its older brother? Hmm... I wouldn't want to spoil it so I'll be honest with my opinion that it has yet to convince many that it can deliver consistently like Racks was able to. But price-wise, it is a bit cheaper.

It's been a very long time since the girls of The Foodies Circle met. I haven't seen the girls since last year! Naturally, a hangout together is long overdue. And, there's no better place to chill over good food and chill than Applebee's which we have long wanting to try.
We all rarely go to Eastwood so coming from the side, we didn't see Applebee's at first. Good thing they had a sign by their stairs pointing us to go up.
When we got up, we were surprised to see how big and spacious the place was. The interiors gave a hint of a laid back kind of bar.
After the first portion, there are more booths that for many would be more comfortable and well-suited for dining.
Yet, it still keeps the same dim and yellow hued lighting. Some parents would find it to be too dark as a family restaurant but then for me, some family restaurants like Tony Roma's is even darker.
Food
Appetizer
There were a lot of interesting appetizer options. But, we were really intrigued by the Fried Sweet & Spicy Pickles. Upon trying this out, we felt that we made the right choice. The boys were more delighted than us since this is an amazing bar chow.
Salads
Applebee's menu has an extensive menu including greens. So glad they have salads because I always aim for a balance meal. The Grilled Watermelon & Spicy Shrimp Salad swooned all of us. I like the ying and yang between the grilled watermelon offered a sweet fruity flavor and the spicy shrimp added a nice kick together. Together with the feta cheese, yogurt dressing and almond, this salad is the bomb!
If you like a very bold spicy, sweet and salty flavors to go with your greens, get the Buffalo Chicken Salad. But, most of us found the taste to be strikingly sharp for our taste buds.
Pasta
Since I'm crazy for spinach dips, seeing the Spinach Artichoke and Grilled Chicken Cavatappi instantly lured me to order it. However, we all felt that the spinach being fried in this case was too subtle to create a good balance against the creamy artichoke sauce.
Chicken and Fish
If there was an order we would not have made, it would be the Teriyaki Balsamic Glazed Salmon. The thick salmon slice was not cooked as evenly as we would have hoped.
Local Favorites
So I suggest ditch the Teriyaki Balsamic Glazed Salmon for the wholesome Applebee's Pork Liempo Adobo.
Sandwiches, Tacos and More
The BBQ Beef Brisket Tacos is served quesadillas style with dips and sauce.
Burgers
Okay if you're looking for an instant heart attack, get the Triple Meat All-In Burger! Just kidding! But, wow this is one bad-ass burger with USDA beef burger patty, double smoked bacon, honey barbecued shredded beef brisket with cheddar cheese.
Desserts
We all yearned for an evident banana taste from the Banofee Cheesecake. We can't help but feel disappointed that the banana component is just the banana chips. I suggest that you order this for sharing because the cheesecake is very rich and dense.
I highly recommend the S'Mores Creme Brulee as a meal ender. The slightly burnt marshmallows and rich dark chocolate fudge with caramelized crisp is wonderfully comforting to eat. I never thought that smores could presented like this! It is fun, appealing and delicious!

We surely had a great time over Applebee's New Menu for 2017. I have so much more to try so I'm coming back with the family next time!
