Are you a planner or spontaneous when it comes to trips? When I go on solo trips, I am quite am a planner. But, the family is so spontaneous that when we got to Tagaytay, Cafe Vio La popped out in Swarm and we ended up checking it out.
After all, I haven't been back to Crosswinds for the past seven years. It is the first time for the family to visit Crosswinds.
Seeing beautiful things like this makes me grateful to have a spontaneous family. Had I planned going here, I wouldn't be as pleased by this wonderful surprise.
Each section has a different vibe somehow...
although the general theme is colorful and lively.
I especially like the al fresco area. If only it wasn't hot outside, I would definitely want to hang out here.
Food
Even though we just had lunch, our eyes glittered as we saw a chiller filled with cakes.
Bricked Oven Pizza
Cafe Vio La Special (395 php)
Even until now, my family surprises me. They say they are are full and then they order pizza. I'm glad they did because the Cafe Vio La Special is a really good pizza. It was so fragrant and the cheese would stretch when you pull out a slice. I also thought I was full but turns out I wanted more of this as soon as I tried it.
♥ Apple Crumble Cheesecake (215php) |
♥ Ube Cheesecake (215 php) |
Key Lime Pie (215 php) |
The Key Lime Pie had a nice tartiness to it. It's another rarity to find a dessert like this so I'm so happy we discovered this place.
Fresh Fruit Shakes
Cantaloupe (175 php) |
I wanted to try a non-caffeinated drink so I ordered the Cantaloupe.
Honey Cinnamon Au Lait (145 php) |
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Escaping from Manila and hanging out at a cool and colorful like Cafe Vio La with delectable cakes and drinks, sounds like an irresistible idea right?

I work in a very cool office where I have to wear a thick coat every single day. Yet, my life seems not cool enough so I decided to chill out at Cold Layers Cafe.
So off I go to Fishermall to share a meal with fellow foodies.
I have passed by Cold Layers Cafe countess times...
and all those time, I thought they only served snow ice.
Food
Savory Meals
Creamy Chicken Pesto (268 php) |
Turns out, they have a menu for savory meals too. Charging off our meal with the Creamy Chicken Pesto. Let me just point out that this pesto-spiced pasta is as creamy, cheesy and chicken-y as stated.
♥ Chicken Teriyaki (268 php) |
The savory options comes in a worldly variety. Yes! There's Chicken Teriyaki! It was soft, sweet and saucy, served in a way that could sweep your soul away.
Weekday Specials
Set B: Chicken Cordon Bleu with Iced Tea (199 php) |
Hotmeals & Sandwiches
Cheesy Meat Lasagna (266 php) |
If there's a Pinoy-style spaghetti, this has got to be a pinoy-style Cheesy Meat Lasagna. It's got the sweetness that will bring you back to joyful childhood sensations.
♥ Slow Cooked Beef Ribs (340 php) |
Because life is fast, I do appreciate everything prepared slow. Thus, my favorite amongst the savory meals is the Slow Cooked Beef Ribs.
Fish n' Chips (220 php) |
Since I wouldn't share the Slow Cooked Beef Ribs, good thing there the Fish n' Chips for sharing.
Special Series Fresh Fruit Snow Ice
♥ "Let's Split" Milk (175 php) |
Sure, the savory meals were a pleasant surprise. But, my eyes shines upon the sight of snow ice.
I found the "Let's Split" interesting. I have thought of two perspectives for this treat. One is to order this for sharing. The other is to order it for as a foreshadowing treat before delivery a breakup speech.
♥ "Summer Fling" Mango (185 php) |
I feel "Summer Fling" is inappropriate for this one. Sure, it might be light but it's so captivating that you'd want to have it longer than just one summer.
♥ "Meant to Be" Matcha (195 php) |
The Snow Ice selection that really spoke to me was the "Meant to Be". A spoonful of this and I knew it was destiny! This matcha really got me. I bet it will mean the same thing for other matcha lover.
"First Crush" Soy (200 php) |
The "First Crush" is light and Chinese-influenced just like my first crush.
"Sweet Surrender" Horlicks (210 php) |
Ahh... I do love horlicks. We used to alternate plain milk, Milo, Ovaltine and Horlicks every night when we were kids. So yes, the Sweet Surrender is Tsinoy Foodies approved!
Bubble Tea & Coffee
Chocolate Frappe 22oz (110 php) |
They have cool drinks too. I was expecting frappes to be caffeine loaded and stuff. But, the Chocolate Frappe was rather sweet and chocolatey like Chuckie or Moo served with whipped cream on top.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Cold Layers Cafe is a cute, colorful and a cool place to chill out for savory meals and snow ice. The food is good but it doesn't come cheap. Is it costly because it is a cafe? Not sure about the savory meals but I am super sure I would shell out for the snow ice.

I've long been a fan of Chef Miko Aspiras. I just couldn't believe it when he messaged me on instagram inviting me to launch of his new cakes with Yardstick's coffee at The Workshop Bespoke Bakery located inside Le Petite Souffle in SM Mega Fashion Hall.
This is my first time to visit both Le Petite Souffle and The Workshop so I was amazed by the interiors.
The display was awesome.
Who wouldn't be enticed to buy upon seeing these right?
Everyone was gathered for the highlight of the event...
When a young genius like Chef Miko Aspiras demonstrates about his pastry, he doesn't need a spotlight to draw the crowds attention.
Everyone was eager to see his creation. Isn't his 17 Layer Chocolate Cake drool worthy? The perfect match for this is Yardstick's Non-Dairy Mocha. Believe me, the mocha is so smooth that you can't tell that it doesn't have dairy on it.
I really loved the light and subtle flavors of pistachio of the Pistachio Creme Roulade. I knew the family would appreciate it so I brought them home some one time. Indeed, they had so much praise for it. Chef Miko suggests this cake to be paired with Yardstick's Madagascar Vanilla Iced Latte.
The crowd favorite is the Basque Burnt Cheesecake. This is indeed so good. This is best when freshly baked or shall I say burnt? It doesn't taste bitter and burnt at all. The caramel isn't too sweet either. The best coffee drink for this is Yardstick's Burnt Butterscotch Iced Latte with Salted Cream. It sounds intriguing right? I want to try that on my next visit too.
So here they are: 17 Layer Chocolate Cake, Pistachio Creme Roulade and
Basque Burnt Cheesecake. Try them all out. I bet you'll find one (if not all) to be a total indulgence.
Thank you so much Chef Miko for inviting me to try this amazing desserts!
