Wai Ying Dimsum: Quick and Affordable Chinese Fastfood (EGI Taft Tower Manila)
Taft Avenue, Manila, Metro Manila, Philippines
I've been to Wai Ying Fastfood in Binondo before. But, this is the first time I've tried Wai Ying Dimsum in EGI Taft Tower.
It has a dimsum-making area upfront so you can't see the dining area until you enter EGI Taft Tower. I'm told that they make them 3 times a day so if you're dining during that time, you might catch and watch it.
Like most Chinese fastfood places, the ambiance is simple as it is designed for eat and go.
Food
Congee
As it is the rainy season, the Beef Congee is my recommendation for a warm, heart and fulfilling soul food.
My companions all loved the Lemon Chicken. This is a great alternative to the usual sweet and sour dishes.
The Curry Beef Brisket here is different from the one in Binondo. This is lighter and my friends liked it that way.
The Sweet or Sour Pork is as expected a hit among my friends. I personally find it too sweet for me just like the Lemon Chicken but that's because I'm not too much of a sweet foodie.
You can order the fish fillet with three kinds of sauce: Black Tausi, Sweet and Sour Sauce and Cream and Corn Sauce. Selection depends on your preference. If you like it salty, pick Black Tausi. If you like it sweet, pick the Sweet and Sour Sauce. If you like it sweet and creamy, there's the Cream and Corn Sauce. If you're with kids, I'd suggest this for them.
The Asado is sweet, savory and tender. This is a classic favorite for many.
The Soy Chicken is my favorite at Wai Ying Dimsum especially with their special sauce.
The Fried Rice is my little sisters favorite at Wai Ying Dimsum. She can eat this alone and everyday.
Dimsum
Of course, we wouldn't dine in at Wai Ying Dimsum without ordering dimsum. My favorite is their Hakaw. I used to visit Wai Ying Dimsum with an old friend and order Hakaw and their Beef Chongfan which is the best in the world according to my friend. My least favorite is the Japanese Siomai which taste a bit off to me.
My friends were new to the concept of the Hot Salad Roll. If you haven't tried this, try it and you might just love it like they did. I personally like the Seafood Roll more.

Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Wai Ying Dimsum has already gained recognition as a Chinese Fastfood favorite of Filipinos and Tsinoys alike. I can't think of an alternative in the same league in the same area. Can you?

Ling Nam Wanton Parlor & Noodle Factory: Lugao Congee for Breakfast (Binondo T. Alonzo Sta Cruz Manila)
Binondo, Manila, Metro Manila, Philippines
I sometimes still wonder how I managed to wake up so early during my pre-college years. For me, early is before 10 am and I could say the same for the rest of the family. There are only a few instances that could get us up at 5:30 in the morning and one of those is Ling Nam Wanton Parlor & Noodle Factory.
This humble place along T. Alonzo Sta. Cruz has been my mom's favorite breakfast place since she was young. And, it's still her favorite place up until now.
As soon as you step in, you can already sniff the pleasant scent of their Lugao.
The place is small but it has a second floor. Upon, taking our order, we were given our complimentary hot tea.
Food
Lugao (Morning Only: 5:30 am to 8 am)
The Lugao are only available from 5:30 am to 8 am so be sure to come early for it. They may even ran out of it before 8 am. My brother's choice is the bountiful Halo-Halo Lugao. It has everything: bola-bola, liver, kidney, chicken and fish fillet.
My favorite is the Liver & Kidney Lugao. This is not for everyone though, it has a hint of the fuzzy organ taste that some people dislike.
The Chicken Lugao is a popular choice because chicken broth is always appealing.
The broth is mild so mixing the egg before it's completely cooked together with the lugao is vital for me.
My mom loves the Fish with Bola which is another great choice.
Dimsum
We always order their Pork Siomai which is more chunky and porky than other commercialized ones.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Ling Nam Wanton Parlor & Noodle Factory will always be our favorite lugao or congee place. I don't even like congee but this can get me off my comfty bed in a flash. We also buy their packed noodles and use it for cooking at home.

During my visit at Kabila Filipino Bistro, I also discovered that its neighbor, Museum Cafe, serves a special breakfast menu from 8 am to 11 am so I decided to give it a try.
Food
I'm very happy with their multi-cuisine breakfast offerings.
Chinese (Served with a choice of 3 pcs. Shrimp Dumplings, Sharks Fin or Siumai)
My favorite is the Chicken Hainan Noodles with Shrimp Dumplings.
The Chicken Hainan is so tender, the broth is flavorful plus it had shitake mushrooms which I love.
The Shrimp Dumplings has a beautiful clear and smooth shell and the shrimp was soft but solid and not soggy.
I don't usually enjoy congee because its commonly plain for my liking. But, the Anise Scented Beef Congee with Siumai is certainly a hearty and flavorful choice.
The Anise Scented Beef Congee has savory and tender braised anise scented beef that requires little chewing. The rich flavors of the beef is evident in the congee broth as well.
The Siu Mai is a pretty good version too.
Favorites
You can make your own omelette or choose one from their menu.
Waffles/Pancakes (served with maple syrup, butter, peanut butter and topped with ripe mango, watermelon and granny smith apples)
An order of their Waffles comes with 4 pieces of golden brown crips on the outside and soft on the inside waffles topped with whipped cream and fruit cubes. I enjoyed them with the peanut butter.
Their M Benedict Jamon Excellente is one of the best egg benedicts I've tried yet! The perfect egg composure and the smoky ham combination is so sensational!.
Drinks
Fresh Juices
TWG Tea
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Museum Cafe offers reasonably price hefty breakfast meals that will surely perk up your morning! Their breakfast variety is not the usual fare and you certainly can't go wrong with any of them.
