Eri Curry: Japanese Curry That's Local Concept (SM Megamall)

Mandaluyong, Metro Manila, Philippines

I'm the biggest Japanese Curry fan in the family so I insisted that we try Eri Curry.

Based on the facade, it looks like typical Japanese restaurants with cute dish displays.

Coming in on a Saturday night, the place was busy and all tables were filled.  Seeing its popularity made me eager to try and compare it with foreign Japanese Curry brands like Curry Bee Japanese Curry House and Curry House Coco Ichibanya.

Food
Just like Coco Ichibanya, they have the customizable curry meal option where you get to choose your rice serving size, curry spiciness level, main dish and extra toppings.

Thin Sliced Beef Curry + Regular Rice + Spicy + Mushroom + Quail Egg (290 php + 80 php + 56 php)
I had the Thin Sliced Beef Curry + Regular Rice + Spicy + Mushroom + Quail Egg.  The curry sauce was more subtle than I expected.  The texture was thicker and more creamy like gravy.  The spiciness was fiery enough for me.  Somehow, I still prefer the traditional Japanese curry I'm accustomed to.  The beef meat was good enough.  It is not very tender but not challengingly tough either.   We also loved the quail eggs.

Katsu Omelette Curry  + Regular Rice + Just Right + Burger (350 php + 198 php)

Mom and little sister opted to share the Katsu Omelette Curry  + Regular Rice + Just Right + Burger.  I noticed that they looked disappointed.  Then I found out that when they flipped the burger, it was severely burnt.  So, I called it to the attention of the server.  The server was very apologetic and offered to have it replaced immediately.  He returned after a few minutes to inform us that they cannot assure that the burger can be cooked the way we would be satisfied so he insisted that we have the sliced beef instead.  Not wanting another burnt burger, we agreed.  The Katsu is delicious.  The portion is generous too.

Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Eri Curry has its own twist in its dishes to appeal more to the Filipino taste buds.  Try it as it may just be what you are looking for.  But, I found the pricing to be unreasonably expensive for a homegrown concept.
