Residing in Manila has limited our foodie exploration around Alabang. In fact, our rarity in the area is evident by our number of Alabang posts. So, we're happy to share the our latest discovery in the area called Southbank Cafe + Lounge.
Yes, we traveled all the way to the South because there is no existing food establishment in the Metro Manila area yet like Southbank.
The long operating hours of Southbank Cafe + Lounge from 7 am until 1 am is complemented by its versatile and expansive food and drink offerings. As a Melbourne-inspired food establishment, Southbank seeks to be the melting pot of cuisines and drinks.
Southbank's coffee concoctions are produced using Victoria Adruino espresso machine and hot air roasted beans of Allpress Espress (quality coffee branch from New Zealand since 1989). It is proudly the first cafe to offer Allpress Espresso.
It also offers cocktails and wines.

Coffee
♥ Mocha (190 php)
Fellow coffee enthusiast, we highly recommend Southbank's premium bold and flavorful coffee. We tried the Mocha which was by far the best one we've tried yet!
Cold Drink (with Vanilla Ice Cream)
♥ Iced Coffee (190 php)
Another must try is its Iced Coffee that comes with Vanilla Ice Cream with milk chocolate bits. Its amazing how the coffee maintains its richness despite the ice and ice cream. We'd say its even stronger in flavor than other cold brew brands we've tried. It's also a plus that it used plastic free straws which are made of 100% biodegradable PLA cornstarch which decomposes after 200 days.
All Day Menu
Breakfast
♥ Classic French Toast (370 php)
Southbank's french toast isn't just savy with all the colorful dusts and edible flowers, it is also so delicious that all my companions preferred this over pancakes. It was an interesting discovery for us that whipped ricotta adds a complementing creamy texture and wholesome flavor to the Classic French Toast.
♥ Croquettes (350 php)
We've always been a fan of croquettes. We loved Southbank's version comes with potato, cheese, sous-vide egg and roasted capsicum.
Southbank Pancakes (390 php)
Mains
♥ Ricotta Salad (390 php)
♥ Southbank Burger (580 php)
The juicy 100% beef patty and the truffle mayo for us was the winning factor that made the Southbank Burger as our top choice amongst the dishes we tried.
♥ Squid Ink Pasta (450 php)
♥ Tiger Prawn Risotto (580 php)
The Tiger Prawn Risotto is a medley of all our favorites: prawn thermidore, mushroom and sun-dried tomatoes so it was instant love upon first taste. When it comes to risotto, another essential factor is the texture. As you can see, it is creamy and the rice isn't too sticky, heavy or mushy so it was pleasurable to eat.
♥ Salmon Aburi Bowl (620 php)
At its price point, we could compare Southbank's Salmon Aburi Bowl with Your Local's famous Torched Salmon Donburi. Quite frankly, we love this better!
Hickory BBQ Pork Belly Bowl (420 php)
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Southerners are surely lucky to have Southbank Cafe + Lounge just around the neighborhood. We'd definitely love to have some of the food and coffee as much as we can. Aside from having one of the best coffee we've had, Southbank also offers free WiFi and power outlets which makes it our ideal work station. For those who aren't from the South, we still recommend Southbank for your foodie exploration. It is definitely worth the trip especially if you haven't been to Melbourne or can't afford the average dish rate in Melbourne pegged at around 20 USD per meal.

I have observed that most people let life's routine consume most of their time and energy. Yet, there are others, like my family, who seem to have an endless flow of energy and enthusiasm towards food discoveries and making more out of life. While I belong to the former, I occasionally allow myself to be dragged along for family bonding's sake. This time, we drove all the way to the south just to have some ramen at Sigekiya.
It is located at the Commercial Center. I haven't revisited that place for six years so I was surprised that it was totally different from what I remembered. It had a couple of stores and restaurants but not much people.
I've read from blogs that Sigekiya originated from Yokohoma Japan and was established in 2010. I wonder why they don't state such in its signage though.

I'm so glad I get to try Sigekiya. Even with our 4-hour travel, I felt it was worth the try. (Well, maybe because I wasn't the one driving! =)

Seems Sigekiya has managed to have a continuous influx of people though.

It's actually that fact that made us excited us to try it. According to their menu, they offer their distinct shoyu broth and grilled chashu. It also offered spiciness level for its ramen and tsukemen. Our server said that they were serious that level is 1 to 100.

Gyoza 5 pcs. (130 php)
Gyoza is a must-order for the family. Having tried so many gyoza versions, I could say that I rarely encounter a disappointing gyoza when it is served by an authentic Japanese franchise. This circumstance is no different.
Chicken Karaage (180 php)
Just like the gyoza, we always order the chicken karaage. This is the first time we've encountered the Chicken Karaage served in chicken strip portions. We loved the idea cause smaller size means more crunchiness!
Okonomiyaki (150 php)
We ordered the Okonomiyaki because of the unique presentation as shown in their menu. Sadly, we still prefer the texture of the okonomiyaki cooked teppanyaki-style on top of a stainless steel flat grill.
Tsukemen
Tsukemen with Japanese Curry Regular (370 php)
The Tsukemen with Japanese Curry Regular is a good option to try. I had this at level 3 and each slurp was a comforting experience for me. I liked this better than other tsukemens I've tried yet.
Ramen
♥ Sigekiya Ramen Regular (360 php)
We were impressed with their Sigekiya Ramen. It's different from most ramens here. The consistency is thicker and richer. You could say the same for the flavor.
♥ Sigekiya Ramen Regular (360 php)
It comes with a lot of toppings so expect it be a fulfilling bowl.
Miso Ramen Regular (360 php)
The Miso Ramen didn't stand out as something worth remembering. On the bright side, it still comes with their delicious chashu!
Complimentary Frozen Jellies
Their Complimentary Frozen Jellies was unexpected yet well-appreciated! I liked the idea of freezing the jelly so I adopted it even at home. =)

Chairman Wangs Prime Beef Noodle House: Worth Going Far South (Molito Lifestyle Complex Alabang)
PNR Alabang Station, T. Molina, Muntinlupa, 1781 Metro Manila, Philippines
Like Ramen Yushoken, my uncle suggested that we go South to try Chairman Wangs Prime Beef Noodle House.
So we dedicated a day to go from Manila to Molito Lifestyle Complex in Alabang. Chairman Wangs was not yet open when we dined at Ramen Yushoken and Le Petite Cheri. Now, the whole complex is filled with dining establishments.
It has an ancient Chinese civilization interior. It has lanterns dangling for lights. And, the walls are the most interesting part for me. The tall wooden chairs are cool too.
There's a window by the entrance showing that they simultaneously make hand-pulled noodles.
Food
Dry Noodles
As soon as we opened the menu, we knew that Chairman Wangs is related to Kanzhu Hand-Pulled Noodles. We ordered same items we've tried before and other new items out of curiosity. When the the Chairman's Braised Beef Dry Noodles was served, we already knew what to expect. The price difference was for the superior food quality and larger serving size. The texture of th noodles is so good. It was firm and chewy - just the way I love it.
Noodle Soup
The Chairman's Prime Beef Noodle Soup is one of the best Chinese noodle soup I've ever encountered.
Best quality in terms of broth, noodles and beef. What's there not to like.
The Chairman's Braised Beef Noodle Soup is actually not far below the Chairman's Prime Beef Noodle Soup. But, the rich milky broth is far more savory and flavorful than the same kind I've tried at Kanzhu.
The Braised Beef and Tendon Noodle Soup is lighter in terms of broth. It brings out the taste of soft tendon so we enjoyed this.
I ordered the Lamb Dumpling Noodle Soup because I didn't try this at Kanzhu. The family has tried Kanzhus version and says this is way better. The texture of the dumplings, better duck meat filing and the broth sets the differene.
The Pork Chive and Dumpling Noodle Soup is pretty good. But, I prefer the Lamb Dumpling Noodle Soup.
Dessert
The family was so excited for dessert. We wanted to order so many but we ended up with the Chilled Coconut Milk Soup with Sago and Fresh Fruits as the rest were not available.
We all loved the presentation. Taste-wise we were all pleasantly surprised at how refreshingly delicious this could be. This is so simple yet really good and quite healthy too.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Chairman Wangs Prime Beef Noodle House is the only Chinese noodle soup house worth going south for. But, for premium quality it is a bit pricey.
