Jamba Juice: Now Blending in SM Mall of Asia for a Fruitful Cause

Last Saturday, I got to witness a Jamba Juice's flavorful expansion as it opens its third branch in Southeast Asia at Philippine's largest mall, SM Mall of Asia.

After the ribbon-cutting and the blessing, everyone was eager to try out their fresh blended smoothies.

jamba juice sm moa
I watched as orders were being prepared through the glass windows along the Jamba Juice booth. Jamba Juice makes use of the highest quality of fruits from different countries which inlcudes our local bananas.

It was so cool to watch the scoops of ice cream and ice as they were tossed into the air.  The staffs were very excited and happy to serve their first batch of customers.

Banana Berry Smoothie 12 oz
I had the Banana Berry Smoothie which is delicious!  It is composed of Apple, Strawberry, Bananas, Blueberries, Raspberry and Ice.  It was rich in flavor and very refreshing.  I loved it!

jamba juice gimme 5 campaign

After enjoying my drink, my friend Yanie invited me to support Jamba Juice's Gimme' 5 for Guimaras Campaign.  We rode for five minutes with ease and we were even given their campaign bag tag as a token. I would've wanted to bike more to donate more mango trees but believe me many were as eager as we were to support the cause.

I love the concept of this fruitful cause.  Customers who ride their Blender Bike for five minutes will get to donate one mango seedling which will be planted in the Guimaras Mango Park.  This campaign was first introduced in their flagship store in BHS-Central through their partnership with the Bureau of Plant Industry-Guimaras National Mango Research and Development Center (BPI-GNMRDC).  During the last visit of James D. WhitePresident and CEO of Jamba Juice, he embraced the campaign as a meaningful way of raising awareness of local sustainability initiatives.  It is their hope that our local Guimaras Mangoes will one day play a larger role in their menu.

Let's all support the Gimme' 5 for Guimaras Campaign!

Shokuji: Traditional Japanese Cuisine in Makati

Shokuji is one hidden gem in Makati for traditional Japanese Cuisine.  Located in the middle of buildings along San Augustin Street in Makati and its rustic facade, it is easy to miss.  But, I hope you do stop over and try it out because it is rare to find delectible traditional Japanese dishes that Shokuji has been serving for more than 16 years.

shokuji
Shokuji has a simple interior with white linen covered long tables and wooden cushioned chairs.  The floors are simple white-tiled that you'd commonly find in a house.  The place is enclosed in its plain white walls with a few light lamps except for the glass windows that allows diners to see their parking lot.

Food
complimentary soup
Complimentary Soup
They served a Complimentary Soup with generous portions of chicken chunks and flavorful chicken broth that I find simply soothing.

Appetizer & Sides
spicy tuna salad
Spicy Tuna Salad - Sharing (175 php)
The Spicy Tuna Salad reminds me of the spicy tuna sashimi with roe, spring onions and green lettuce.

Sashimi-Sushi Party Sampler
classic maki sampler
Classic Maki Sampler (375 php)
The Classic Maki Sampler is an affordable treat for the group since its comes with four pieces of Maguro (Tuna Sushi), four pieces of Kani Salad Makifour pieces of Ebi Tempura Maki and four pieces of California Maki.  The maki was freshly made as each bite made a crackle sound from the crispiness of the seaweed wrapper.  Everything in the assortment was also a delightful appetizer.

Yakimono
yakitori
  Yakitori (175 php)
The Yakitori is unlike any others I've tried.  It was more savory and fragrant than sweet.  It was so tender and succulent too.  An order is served with Japanese salad as side dish.

Tempura
ika tempura
Ika Temmpura (185 php)
If you want to sway from the usual Ebi Tempura, the Ika Tempura (prime squid tempura) is a good option.  The batter coating allows a perfect crunchiness contrasted by the smooth and mildly chewy squid fillet.

Teppan Yaki
shokuji tofu steak
 Shokuji Tofu Steak (260 php)
The Shokuji Tofu Steak is one of the best I've ever tried.  The balance of flavors was superb especially with the slight zing to tickle the taste bud.  The tofu is one of the finest quality too as it was soft and smooth.

shitake beef rolls
Shitake Beef Rolls (350 php)
The Shitake Beef Rolls is masculine thin beef strips rolled in juicy shitake mushrooms topped with spring onions and served with onion rings on the side.

Desserts
coffee jelly
Coffee Jelly (95 php)
The bitter sweet Coffee Jelly with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and cherry on top is the perfect meal ender.

Beverages
green mango shake
Green Mango Shake (95 php)
The Green Mango Shake is really tangy as it is only lightly sweetened.   I find it strong on the puree side rather than milkiness.

Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Shokuji serves traditional Japanese cuisine like no other.  Although I usually find quality Japanese fare a bit pricey, Shokuji's pricing is really affordable.  They offer individual meals that are suitable for students and employees and also set meals and platters  that are great for group gatherings and occasions.  I would definitely want to come back and try more of their dishes when I have the chance.

Mafbex 2012: Our annual visit to the Manila Food and Beverage Expo

Its been an annual tradition for us Tsinoy Foodies together with family and friends to visit Mafbex (Manila Food and Beverage Expo), the one of the biggest food exposition in Manila.

My mom considers visiting exposition as an educational exposure for us so we've attended all sorts of them.  But, Mafbex is something we always look forward to.

mafbex
While the exposition is taking place, there is also a barista tournament.  The place was crowded by audiences cheering for their favorite barista.

mafbex

mafbex
Our main purpose for visiting food expo is really to find business opportunities.  There are so many franchisors as well as equipment and goods suppliers participating in the fair.  But, there are also so many products that foodies like us could not resist.  They were bargained at a good price too.

mafbex
By the end of our rounds, we were quite preoccupied in carrying these our heavy Mafbex eco-bags  filled with our purchases.  It's a good thing they give out Mafbex eco-bags.  It was really handy.  Note: Complimentary tickets were not entitled to them.

mafbex
On the way out, we couldn't help by fall in awe with this beautiful table set up.  I can't help but fall into wishful thinking hihi.

mafbex
There was also a cooking show but wish also had also gathered a large audience.

Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Mafbex 2012 was a successful expo as expected.  We'll visit again next year for sure.  The entrance fee of 100 php was quite reasonable with all the stuff you can buy and the food tastings you can try.  Plus, the eco-bag is also a bonus.

'Cue Modern Barbecue: Meaty Madness at Bonifacio High Street Central

Offering a new wave of restaurants and high-end shops is the new Bonifacio High Street Central. My fellow foodies say that one of the best options to dine at there is 'Cue Modern Barbecue so naturally, I just had to try it out.

cue modern barbecue
'Cue Modern Barbecue is brightly lit with different types of lighting.  It has a ceiling design covered in cow hide that's sure to attract your attention.  Along its walls, you could see the anatomy of beef, pork and lamb.  Surely, the clues they leave out makes you wanna order some meat!

popcorn
Complimentary Popcorn
While waiting for our other companions, we were given their Complimentary Popcorn.  It had the right zing to it to whet your appetite.

Food

Smalls
I definitely don't agree that these are smalls by the way.  But, let me get on with the finger food shall we...
buttermilk wings
 Fried Buttermilk Wings (355 php)
The Fried Buttermilk Wings are sweet, maple-pepper glazed and panko crusted fried chicken wings. These are great starters.  It has the right amount of kick to get you started.  The crust is crunchy and the chicken meat was succulent.  Yum!

bone marrow and steak tacos
Bone Marrow and Steak Tacos (485 php)
I don't know about you but I definitely can't resist a bone marrow when I see one.  Even at home, I'd struggle over the bone marrow in a bulalo and I'd pound it hard till I get every little bit of it as I can.  The Bone Marrow and Steak Tacos is a superb dish!  I ate it by placing some bone marrow, steak, sweet n' spicy salsa verde and roasted corn salsa on the mini flour tortilla.  As much as we love to eat bone marrows, we have to admit that its a bulk of oiliness can get overwhelming.  But when eaten together with the steak and the two kinds of salsa, it creates an awesome balance that will make you want to have more of it.

Salads
southern greens
 Southern Greens Whole (355 php)
I always have my greens for a balanced and healthy meal.  The Southern Greens is a great option!  It's a mix of fresh and crispy romaine lettuce with crunchy green and red thin apple slices, candied walnuts drizzled with their light and refreshing special orange and creamy bleu cheese dressing.  I savored this as much as I could looking forward to a more meaty meal.

Odds & Ends
house burger
 The House Burger (395 php)
The House Burger is a double 3 oz all-beef patty oozing with melted yellow cheddar on the top and seriously mature white cheddar in between.  It is also complete with the usual mixed ins like crispy lettuce, tomatoes, red onions drenched in their house-made ranch dressing sandwiched between butter grilled buns.  This is surprisingly, one of the best burgers that I have ever tried.  The  juicy all-beef patty with the works is just gastronomic.

The Chopping Board (Good to Share and with side dish and sauce)
baby back ribs wet
Baby Back Ribs Wet Half Slab (645 php)
We had our Baby Back Ribs Wet as recommended by our server.  It was the right choice.  I loved the saucy goodness partnered with the tenderness of the baby back ribs.  The ribs are so soft, they almost fall of the bone.  I loved this!

beef belly
Beef Belly 250 gms (695 php)
The Beef Belly was served in a hot skillet pan.  It was dark ale-braised and then cooked until slightly charred.  It is mustard crusted with grilled onions on the side.  This is pretty good too.

roasted chicken
Roasted Chicken Half with Crisp Onion Strings (405 php)
With or without the sauce, the golden salted-crusted Roasted Chicken won me over!  Upon slicing it, it was over flowing with juicy goodness that it almost slips of the chopping board.  It is one of the most savory and succulent roasted chicken I've ever encountered.  I highly recommend this.  We chose to have it with Crisp Onion Strings which is an great match.

lamb ribs cue chili monggo
Lamb Ribs with Cue's Chili Monggo (680 php)
The Lamb Ribs is another rave-worthy dish.  It's a lean and mean meaty treat without any gamey taste.  We had it matched with Cue's Chili Monggo which is delicious with the sour cream on top.

Endings
caramel pecan cheesecake
Caramel Pecan Cheesecake (235 php)
The Caramel Pecan Cheesecake had a sweetness that could get too overwhelming because of the caramel on top and in between.  I also did not like its heavy-thick-moist consistency.

chocolate chip cookie cake
Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake (195 php)
The Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake is two big scoops of vanilla ice cream atop a muffin-sized chocolate chip cookie cake.   Although I'm not a chocolate chip cookie fan, I enjoyed the warm crunchy and crumb-y cookie cake.  This is just the perfect sweet ending for any meal.

Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
'Cue Modern Barbecue is the perfect hangout when craving for good food  especially "meat" with a cozy ambiance to boot.  Located at a the heart of the fast growing Bonifacio Global City, no wonder it has gained much attention from workers, residents and shoppers alike.  I can't wait to visit again once they release "coming soon!" items.

Red Mango SM Megamall: Froyo and Waffles

Once upon a time, frozen yogurts were raved by all.  Well, I'm sure now we can't deny that the tide has settled.  But, we cannot deny that frozen yogurts are pleasing to eat especially when coming from the minutes of walking under the scorching heat of the sun.  One of our favorite yogurt places is Red Mango SM Megamall (after the SM Mall of Asia branch closed down).

Red Mango SM Megamall is brightly lit with lounges and modernistic chairs.

red mango
Undeniably, Red Mango offers the most assortment of frozen yogurt toppings.

froyo original
Yuzu Lemon Fro-yo S (85 php)
Red Mango Yuzu Lemon Fro-yo is creamy with a tarty lemon flavor.  I enjoyed it.  But, fellow Tsinoy Foodie Kurt finds the lemon flavor a bit artificially sour for his taste.

green tea waffles
Green Tea Waffles (85 php)
What we loved more than the Original Fro-yo was the Green Tea Waffles.  It was the best waffles we've ever tried.  The green tea flavor is strong but it was contrasted well with the cream and red beans.  It was moist and soft too.

Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Red Mango is one of the best frozen yogurt and waffles around.  It's just perfect hang out for anyone.

Uncle Cheffy Brick-Oven Global Cuisine: Crave-worthy Panizza and More!

The Lucky Chinatown Mall is the new hang out place for tsinoys because it has tons of stores, a new cinema theater and enticing dining places.  Among the most occupied restaurants in it is Uncle Cheffy Brick-Oven Global Cuisine.

uncle cheffy brick-oven global cuisine
Uncle Cheffy and its sister company Kuse shares one kitchen and the two are only divided by a wine bar.  Regardless of whether you dine at Uncle Cheffy or Kuse, you can order any item from both of their menu.

They have a wide range of beverage selections and wines.

Brick-Oven Panizza

♥ Uncle Cheffy Favorites Family (395 php)
Never ever visit Uncle Cheffy without ordering their crave worthy Brick-Oven Panizza.  We ordered the Uncle Cheffy Favorites and we loved it!  It was so cheesy yet it didn't feel soggy or bathe in oil.  The texture is soft and chewy.  The toppings were a great mix for a wholesome treat.  It is best eaten by rolling it together with the veggies provided.

♥ Memphis Barbeque U.S. Beef Back Ribs
The Memphis Barbeque U.S. Beef Back Ribs is so tender and succulent, the wet marinated meat easily departs from the bone.  You can even enhanced it by pairing it with your choice of sauce.  It is served with boiled marble potatoes and salad for a complete meal.

tiuey noodles
♥ Tiuey Noodles (160 php)
The Tiuey Noodles is delicious Asian fried noodles with beef cubes, chopped asparagus and cilantro.  I've tried many versions of Asian fried noodles and I have to say that this is one of the best.

spaghetti alejandro
Spaghetti Alejandro (185 php)
The Spaghetti Alejandro is a Spanish inspired pasta with tomato sauce, smoked chorizo, pimentos and edam cheese.  This has its own unique blend that works wonderfully.

Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Uncle Cheffy offers great brick-oven cooked dishes suitable for the whole family.  They offer their dishes with their own special blend.  I love the Brick-Oven panizza.  It's one of the best I've ever tried and I'd want to have them as much as I can.
