I've had Chickenchop for meals before at Shi Lin and Yen Yen. But, many say that the real way to enjoy one is to eat it street-style like the Taiwanese do. That's how it is sold in the country of its origin, Taiwan.
So together with friends, I've transversed into Masangkay to try the affordable offerings of Hoho Chickenchop. It's a shabby shack near St. Stephen's High School and almost beside Jollibee.
Since it's near chinese schools, they are frequented by students. Their menu is visual and simple. Basically, all their products have have the same flavors. If you're adventurous, you can try mixing and matching the flavors for no additional charge.
The products are served in a paper bag so it's handy and easy to eat.
The Hoho Special Chickenchop comes with deep fried fresh basil. It made is so fragrant. But, the basil was not so evident in terms of taste. The batter is perfectly crunchy and the chicken meat was thin and tender. It's not as juicy but it's not too dry either.
The Lemon Plum Chickenchop is my favorite! I don't know if its because I'm accustomed to eating champoy (dried plum candy) since I was a kid but I really liked it. If you want to have the chickenchop for sharing, you can have them slice it and so you and your friend can eat it with a stick. We were able to try more flavors this way. My companions liked the Barbecue Chickenchop and Lemon Pepper Chickenchop too.
Kids will definitely enjoy the Crispy Corndogs. An order comes with three pieces. These are not only cute but fun to munch too.
The Plum Fried Squid is another great option! The fried squid itself is marinated so its really tasty. I actually like the crunchy and chewy blend of this snack. Perhaps, I'd even prefer this over the the chickenchop.
The Chickcharon is probably the cheapest item on the menu. It's chicken skin coated in their special batter. We had the Cheese Chickcharon which felt like an alternative to popcorn as a light snack. This honestly didn't leave as much impact to me as the other ones. The batter overpowered the chicken skin making its existence almost negligible.
Not only are their snacks affordable, but they also offer the Raspberry Iced Tea just for an addition of 15 php.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Hoho Chickenchop is a great place to stop by for when craving for crunchy snacks! Their pricing is very affordable so you can buy one even when on a tight budget. Chickenchop lovers must definitely try their offerings and see how it fares with the rest. Taiwan may be far away, good thing Hoho Chickenchop is just around the corner.

For quite some time, House of Wagyu Stone Grill has been on our family wishlist after being recommended by relatives and friends. So, when we were considering where to celebrate my little sister's birthday, we thought it was the perfect candidate.
The House of Wagyu Stone Grill at Prism Plaza was brighter than I expected but still cozy with its yellowish lights. It had paintings on hanged on its walls. Tables are quite distant from one another. Their leatherette chairs are big and soft. They had Wifi too but our seating area was beyond its coverage.
We arrived early for dinner so the place was nearly empty. We were quickly ushered to our seats. We passed by their steak and wine chiller on the way which got us all excited.
Food
Soon after our orders where taken, we were served two baskets of complimentary bread. We were also provided with our own bread plate with butter. The bread served warm and had a crispy crust and soft dough.
It wasn't long before our Complimentary Broccoli Soup arrived. It is topped with brocolli and some croutons. It was creamy and tasty!
Appetizers
The Oyster Rockefeller are huge and succulent baked oysters topped with parmesan, creamy white sauce and bacon bits. We all loved this!
Salad
This is one of the rare occasions where we'd find something more enticing in the salad menu other than our favorite Caesar Salad. Our boldness in trying out the Scallop and Shrimp was well rewarded! It was drizzle with an exquisitely delicious strawberry vinaigrette dressing. It was bountiful in terms of ingredients too. It had romaine lettuce, pan seared scallops, butter poached shrimps, cubed mangos, sliced crunchy cucumbers and riped tomatoes.
Pasta
The Alfredo Con Funghi is a pasta with creamy white sauce topped with fresh mushrooms. This is search with two slices of garlic bread which is quite customary for a pasta dish. The pasta was cooked al dente. Although I'm not a fan of white sauce, I enjoyed this one because the light sauce was complemented by the fresh mushrooms well.
Wagyu Stone Grill Steaks
Before our steaks arrived, we were assisted in wearing our House of Wagyu aprons. It was quite useful since the juices from the steak seems to splatter as it is being cooked on top of the stone grill.
My family which are wary about fats prefer the Tenderloin Grade 8. It was a nice marbled cut. They flipped it just in time for it to be evenly cooked medium. We were advised to cut it one piece at a time to preserve its juices to the fullest. It was really tender and tasty! With steak as good as this, there's no need for a sauce.
I, on the other hand, prefer my Ribye Grade 8 steak. I love the fatty parts that make it the steak juicier and savory.
Each steak is served with a Vegetable and Mashed Potato Side Dish so its a complete meal in itself.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Our fine dining dinner experience at House of Wagyu Stone Grill is definitely top-notch. The food is of superb quality and the service was excellent. Sure, we were a little bit carried away and exceeded our budget but it was certainly worth it!

Sure, frozen yogurt isn't the newest food trend in town. But, I sure love it still. A month ago, I was invited by a fellow travel bloggers to chill out at Qoola Yogurt + Fruit Greenbelt 2. I actually have a travel blog which I've is quite dormant for the past few months. I wanted to get to meet them and find some sort of inspiration to write again so I went.
My little sisters often frequent the place for Agantea but it was a first time for me.
Qoola Yogurt + Fruit is a premium frozen yogurt bar originating in Vancouver, Canada.
I've tried various frozen yogurt brands before, but this is my first time witness a "self serve" style of ordering. (I was quite shy so I didn't get to make one)
The first step is to swirl yogurt onto you're cup. You can choose among two of their flavors: original and peach mango. The cup looks bigger than it looks because it has an inner layer. But, that's actually good so you won't overspend.
Toppings
Then, top you yogurt with their wide variety of toppings.
As indicated with its name, they offer fruit toppings.
The more popular toppings for kids are the chocolate, cookies and candies. They have nuts too.
For the final step, place your cup on the weighting scale and pay. The price is fixed at 68 per 100 grams but calculating and speculating the price of your order is a bit tricky unless you're a frequent customer I guess.
They have a bight and cozy dining area located at the second floor. They offer FREE Wifi too and if that doesn't work out for you the default Ayala Wifi is accessible too.
So here are my friend's creations...
♥ Plain
I really like the nice, clean, tarty taste of their plain yogurt. It's one of the best in my book.
You can top your yogurt with fruits. I actually liked this one the most. It's simple and healthy too!
I could spot sparkle in the eyes of my friend's daughter as she held onto this one. I could see why. Doesn't this remind you of candy land?
This is a nut-lovers creation. As a fellow nut-lover to another, I'd say this is a brilliant idea!
Peach Mango
They change the flavors offered so you'll always have something to look forward to on your visit. The It's actually my first time to try a Peach Mango yogurt. Well, it was good but I'd sill prefer the plain one over this. Perhaps, because I didn't find the lightly sweetened peach and sour mango to be a good complement for the tartiness.
You could see we had a lot of fun making more creative and extravagant variations. =)
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Qoola Yogurt + Fruit is an awesome place to chill out with friends. I'd definitely want to go back and try making a plain yogurt creation. As with the self-serve types of yogurt, it is a bit pricey though so keep that in mind. This is also a great place to bring your kids. I bet they will enjoy this type compared to the conventional ones. So, why not let them have a bit fun right?

Holdak is a family owned fast casual restaurant that originated in Busan, South Korea. What began small has now become a chain of restaurants known for their authentic Korean styled chicken with international branches in China and Japan. And, fortunately for us, Holdak has arrived in the Philippines.
Carl Tan, Holdak's president, discovered Holdak while living in Beijing. Loving his experience with his friend's as they bought Holdak chicken in take-out boxes to enjoy on a winter's day or for movie nights.
Holdak is actually a play of words. Holdak ban hada which translates to "to fall deeply and madly in love with someone or something". Dak also means "chicken" in Korean. So, put two and two together and Holdak means to fall deeply and madly in love with chicken. =)
With high ceiling, the place is bright and well-ventillated. It has a simple but appealing orange theme with modern street-style motifs like black lamp posts and street signs. Like most fast food chains, it adopts a pay as you order system. In addition to the usual large menu by the counter, they also have a large illustration of their Korean fried chicken variants to give you a more concrete idea.
Food
I've visited this twice. I first dined here with foodie friends and I revisited to let my family try.
Mini Meals
They only serve boneless chicken thigh fillets so it's easy and convenient to eat especially for the students and employees in the area who are on the rush. The serving portions are also standard. The chicken coating are wonderfully crispy. While, the meat was tender and juicy.
Based on their location, their target market are students from nearby universities so they offer the very affordable Mini Meals at 99 php. The Mini Meals are two boneless chicken thigh fillets with a cup of rice.
Solo Meals
For heavy eaters especially men, I'd recommend the Solo Meal reasonable priced at 145 php to guarantee their meal satisfaction. The Solo Meals are three boneless chicken thigh fillets with a cup of rice. If you love doing the math like I do, you'd find that the solo meal costs a bit more than the Mini Meal though. =)
Out of the four flavors, my family loved the Jack Daniel's the most. The sauce has a light sweet and tangy taste topped with caramelized onions. This is Holdak's version of the world famous Jack Daniel's barbecue sauce. It is tweaked a bit to fit the Filipino palate.
Box of 6's
An order of the Box of 6's is priced at 279 php. However, unlike the meals, it doesn't come with rice so you have to order Extra Rice for 15 php each. But, it does come with a FREE Salad worth 35 php which makes this the second best choice for more savings. The Box of 12 being the best.
The Yang Nyam is an interesting combination of sweet, sour and salty flavors. It is topped with sesame seeds and mixed in with the sweet local peanut butter. (I consider local peanut butter sweet as compared to the imported ones which a more dominant peanut taste)
If you love spicy dishes like I do, the Spicy Yang Nyam is a must try! It's Yang Nyam with a chili spicy kick! I find the peanut butter component more fitting with this because it serves as a neutralizer against the hotness.
This Spicy Yang Nyam served on my second visit with diced chili is spicier than the first one above. Perhaps, someone requested to have our order before toned down. I liked this spicer one better but my family found it to be beyond their spicy tolerance level so I had to finish this all on my own. =p
The Padak is my favorite among the four. It is topped with chili and spring onion and swimming in an interesting zesty Asian sauce.
Extras
I really their Salad! It's actually made of shredded cabbage similar to the Japanese cabbage salad that's usually served with Tonkatsu.
The Curry Fries is a good option for finger food which you can share among friends.
Whenever I watch Korean dramas (I watch often!), I always envy the scene where they eat would cook ramen on a small stove and eat it out of the pot. I always wanted to try it but my mom would probably scold me for eating out of the pot. =p My dream has finally become a reality as soon as our Ramen was served in this cute small pot.
Although I love the presentation, it was nothing more than instant Ramen.
We also tried the Cheese Ramen since we've never encountered one before. We were told that it comes with melted cheese which got me excited. But, upon tasting, I could not detect any cheesiness. It was more creamy than the regular Ramen though with a hint of powder milk taste. (Based on experience of drinking milk every night and munching on powder milk)
Korean Ice Cream
I love Korean ice cream! Melona is one of our favorite Korean ice cream brands so excuse me for my gluttony in having two flavors all for myself. =p
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Holdak is a great and affordable option for korean styled chicken lovers! Compared to other korean styled chicken, you'd find this more fun and interesting because you have more flavors to choose from. Plus, their salad is also a good side dish to go with their chicken.
