Mafbex 2015: Manila Foods and Beverages Expo Events at World Trade Center
Manila, Metro Manila, Philippines
It's been a long time since I last visited Mafbex with the family. Mafbex 2015 this year is from July 22-26, 2015. We figured we should drop by on the first day so we can take advantage of the availability of the items.
As usual, we were on a search for something interesting.
One of our favorite discoveries is Bio-Traders Corporation Dew's Diamond organic products. The old owner and her granddaughter have been innovating products that have gained distinctions and awards abroad. We can't help and be amazed by their products and buy them. Aren't cocktail cucumbers, prumed cucumber, cucumber salsa, cucumber sauce, cocoa tables with only 3% butter fat and sugared cocoa nibs awesome? The owners were really nice. They even invited us to their show city garden farm and offered to teach us some planting basics. We hope to drop by sometime.
Too bad Liberty had ran out of the Big Black Angus Burger which we wanted to try. So we just decided to buy their Big Black Burger Buns =p. They also have cute buns like the Buffy Buns (matcha) and Chocolate Monster Buns.
For the nth time mom bought Ashitaba plants. She's been failing to make them survive. We were told that it should have little water and sunlight only until 9 am. After year, it should grow bigger like their display and have flowers. The flowers should sprout seeds for us to plant like the seeds they have for sale. We learned that it is a relative of celery so we could juice it like their free taste sample. We tried it and err... it's tastes healthy and grassy.
We were also tempted to buy some Hershey's Cookies 3 for 100 php.
It was also a great opportunity for us to buy some kitchen supplies like mixing bowls and pot holders.
w
I've long been seeing Kamuning Bakery posted by several bloggers. It's just too far away from home so when we saw it there, we bought some Mini Pineapple Pie (180 php) and Mini Apple Pie (180 php).
We also couldn't help but buy from Ilustrado since pastries are sold at 50% off. We bought some Chicken Empanadas for half the price of 65 php.
So these are the stuff we got from Mafbex 2015.
Bakery Fair 2015: Filipino-Chinese Bakery Association Inc (FCBAI) Event at the World Trade Center
Manila, Metro Manila, Philippines
The family loves to attend food expos. How fortunate that this year we discovered the Bakery Fair 2015. (A bit unfortunate that we missed it for the past few years though.)
The Bakery Fair 2015 is organized by Filipino-Chinese Bakery Association (FCBAI). It is a biennial (every other year) event.
They occupied a big area with lots of exhibitors from baking equipment...
and baking machinery
to baking supplies.
There are lots of baking ingredients in retail and commercial quantity.
There a free baking demonstrations.
You can see how passionate the baker's are with what they do.
And, they give their finished products as free samples like this chocolate crispies.
There are cake decoration demonstrations too.
They expose their unique ingredients by making a product out of it like this pizza by FY and Sons which made use of papaya yeast.
I also loved this green onion cake! Freshly cooked and served for free sampling.
For other ingredients, they are presented in their purest form like the chocolate of JBCocoa. It was very good!
This sparkling juice is interesting too.
We're definitely glad we visited. We ate so much samples, we stopped at the Ling Nam booth for lunch and we got tons of bargain baking supplies and ingredients like fresh nuts and chocolates. There were affordable breads too. Got some Walter Breads at Buy 1 Take 1! I also saw Gio of thehungrygiant.net and many Chinese friends there.

I've never been noticed as a foodie before so imagine my excitement when I was chosen as a "Blogger Judge" by the UP Economics Society for Foodgasm 4. I knew I just had to free up my hectic schedule for it.
I'm glad I went there because I haven't tried all the food participants. Plus, the bands was great too.
Having tried all the food participants... Let me share my feedback with you based on the order of the score sheet just to be fair.
I'm generally not a fan of cupcakes but I enjoyed the Batak Sesame cupcake from Cuptain Cakes because it was moist and not overly sugary. I liked the bold taste of sesame in the icing but would've loved it better if the flavor on the cupcake itself was stronger.

Niku Nuki's Crabstick is fun to eat as a comfort Japanese snack. The batter and nori was fresh and crisp so it was a good way to complement the crabstick concealed within. This won as"People's Choice".

Being a chocoholic, I loved Cooking Ina's Chocolate Rhumballs! They were so generous too. =) I had all 7 assortments: Wasabi, Chili, Double Dutch, Peanut, Coconut and White Milk Chocolate. Cooking Ina's Kitchen offers bento boxes for lunch, snacks and dinner too.

The Pescado Gourmet Turo in Olive Oil is good but it just lacks the X factor as compared to the rest for me.

You could tell the success of the food when there are long lines for it and everyone wants to buy some to take home.Babci Kuchnia's Polish Periogi was that much of a hit! I wasn't expecting anything but I was really stunned by how good it was! Although this didn't win, this is definitely the winner for me.

The champion of Foodgasm 4 is Hungry Buster's Dying Burger. I'll let the photo speak for itself! Just look at that thick beef patty.
My friends' top pick is Team Johnny's CheeCups which ironically is one of the least for me.
They say everything with bacon is good... Well, Baking Bad's Bacon Cookies failed to impress me.
They gave out free chicharon weee!
Modern Desserts's Pastillas Flan got great texture! It's just a bit too sweet for me.
