Dads World Buffet: International Culinary Journey and a 38th Birthday 50% Off Promo (SM Megamall)
Mandaluyong, Metro Manila, Philippines
I don't know why but this past fews weeks, I feel less efficient as I'm always behind my schedule despite missing some family eat outs, movie nights and game nights. But above all the task mess, I accepted an invite from Dads World Buffet. Why?
Because two years ago, I tried the old Dads Ultimate Buffet and I was somehow unsatisfied and gave a few comments and suggestions as you can refer to it here. And yet, they invited me. That means they are very confident with their new Dad's World Buffet and I really respect confidence and openness a lot.
I didn't notice a big upgrade with the interiors and ambiance. But, the selections were a huge revamp. Even though I thought I was full from my previous meal, I felt so enticed that I wanted to try it all. So let's get on with the food.
Food
Just like the Dads Ultimate Buffet, Dads World Buffet allows a culinary cross-over from Saisaki and Kamayan.
Saisaki
Saisaki boasts of having over 200 sushi variants. I can tell from the crunchy seaweed wrap that everything is made. I tried a lot as there were many options like Taro Sushi, Tuna Sushi, Salmon, Sushi, Alligator Roll, Isikari Roll, Lipstick Trace Roll and Golden Roll. There's even a Temaki. I really liked the ♥ Spicy Salmon Roll. I'm sure you'll find your own personal favorite too.
There are also marinated sashimi and side dishes like Seaweed Salad and Kimchi.
You can order an ♥ Udon Suki from the Sukiyaki Station. It has the freshest vegetables and quality meat. Those fresh shitake mushrooms are got me to try this and I'm so glad I did! And, there's still my favorite ♥ Chawan Mushi too.
If there's something that doesn't need to change in Saisaki, it would be its Tempura Station. Since my childhood, I've always loved their ♥ Ebi Tempura. The Katsu Station is now three times as it was before. I really liked the ♥ Salmon Katsu and ♥ Menchi Katsu.
The Agemono Station selection has become more extravagant. There's Kani Bacon, ♥ Tori Kuwayaki and more.
Kamayan
My friends and I had a lot of plate filled with Kamayan's offering. They have all the Filipino favorites we can think of like ♥ Kare-Kare, ♥ Lechon de Leche, ♥ Crispy Pata, Sisig, ♥ Kuhol, Grilled Salmon Belly, ♥ Adobong Balut, Laing, Dinuguan and the hearty ♥ Bulalo we all kept coming back for.
Dad's World Buffet
Dad's now has a Bread and Cheese Stations as well as a Cold Cuts Station with Mussel Kilpatrick, Ham Roulade, Beef Carpaccio, Pesto Tuna Bites and Tomato Bruschetta.
I'm a salad person! Way to go Dad's the Salad Station is way way better than I remembered.
The Carving Station right at the center is definitely the highlight of Dads.
All the meats I've tried at the Carving Station is succulent and tender. There's a lot of sauce and siding options too. I appreciate that they even have Cranberry Jelly and Mint Jelly.
The ♥ Kebabs are really good! One of the best ones I've tried from a buffet.
They have live stations like the Grilled Seafood Station where you can request your choice of fishes to be freshly cooked for you.
There's a live Pasta Station. And, they are also prepared Italian dishes like Spaghetti and Lasagna. The American Station with ♥ Oysters Rockefeller, Buffalo Wings, ♥ Clam Chowder, Salisbury Steak, Beef with Mushroom Sauce, Texan Pork Ribs, Pork Spareribs w/ Honey, Cajun Chicken Lollipop, Turkey Tetrazinni is also a must stop. The Oysters Rockefeller, Buffalo Wings, Clam Chowder stood out among the rest for me.
For Mexican, they had Tacos, Nachos, Chicken Quesadillas, Beef and Chicken Fajita. The Beef and Chicken Fajita were a bit too saucy for me but it was pretty good.
In addition to the ♥ Dads Paella, they now have Gambas, Turkey Croquetas, ♥ Dads Callos, Chicken Relleno and Calamares. The Turkey Croquetas was my least favorite item for the night. It was mostly breading.
I'm quite surprised that they now have an extensive Chinese Station. They have a Dimsum Station with Pork Siomai, Shark's Fin and Chicken Feet.
And, there are the usual Chinese fare too like the Beef with Brocolli, Sweet & Sour Pork, Chicken with Tausi & Chilli, Steamed Fish Fillet with Garlic & Ginger Soy Sauce, Mixed Vegetables in Oyster Sauce and Yang Chow Fried Rice. I can't help but wish they had some Chinese Cold Cuts too. But, I guess they focused more on popular favorites.
They have interesting Asian selections like India’s Red Curry, Singapore’s Hainanese Chicken (a bit tough and dry) and Cereal Prawns (similar to their Ebi Tempura with cereal bits), Thailand’s ♥ Chicken Pandan (love how they wrapped this in cute sizes), Malaysia’s ♥ Lamb Curry (delicious in yellow curry)...
Indonesia’s ♥ Beef, Pork, and Chicken Sate (delicious especially with their peanut sauce) and Korea’s Galbi Chim.
Leave space for dessert! I recommend the ♥ Ube Flan Cake, ♥ Almond Lychee Jelly, ♥ Buko Pandan Salad, ♥ Cream Puffs and ♥ Soft Served Ice Cream. Those who love Filipino delicacies will be happy as they have Bibingka, Puto Bumbong, Sapin Sapin, ♥ Maja Mais, Palitaw and more. There's also a Halo-halo station, Chocolate fountain, Cookie Bar and an Ice Cream Station. Being an Ice Cream lover, I was thrilled that they had many flavors but I'd suggest that they go beyond the classic flavors of Strawberry, Chocolate and Vanilla.
Their rate is inclusive of drinks! You can choose from: Coca-Cola products, Dads Ice Tea, Red Iced Tea, Orange Juice, Mango Juices, Pineapple Juice, Milo, Lemonade, Blue Lemonade and fresh fruit shakes: ♥ Banana, Pineapple, Ripe Mango, Green Mango, ♥ Four Seasons and Buko Pandan Shake.

Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
I'm very impressed with Dads World Buffet. I'll definitely convince the family to try it here again once more. Kudos to Dads for being one of the buffet pioneers and yet continuing to improve as it listens to its loyal diners.

Vikings Luxury Buffet Restaurant: Birthday Treat (SM Mega Fashion Hall)
Mandaluyong, Metro Manila, Philippines
My friend, who is also one of my most loyal blog reader, happens to be an avid fan of Vikings Luxury Buffet Restaurant. I told him I've tried them during their soft opening phase for their SM Mall of Asia almost four years ago and he said it's drastically changed since then and I should update. Since it's been years of him persuading me to dine there and I have failed to, he decided to treat me there on his birthday. (He just couldn't take it that I have not reviewed it here LOL!)
We dined at the Vikings Luxury Buffet Restaurant at SM Mega Fashion Hall. It was huge but fully booked with long waiting lines even on a weekday lunch.
Food
Indeed, it has changed a lot and there was a lot of variety. I dedicate this post to my friend who invited me just for the purpose of this blog post. He was very supportive as I was going to and fro refilling my plate (we practically didn't have much time to chat =p).
Salad and Starters
There were pre-made salads, make your own salad, tapas and other finger foods like canapes. There's even Lumpfish Caviar there which no one is taking notice of. The Jellyfish was oddly rubbery I had trouble biting through. The rest was pretty good.
Sashimi, Sushi and Maki Station
The sashimi selections available are salmon, crabstick, tuna and squid by request. They had some sushi selections and a lot of maki selections in various colors too. I tried some of it like the Kawa Roll and Crispy California but not too much as I know how heavy they are to the tummy.
Bread Station
The bountiful bread station which seemed to be neglected by many.
Soup Station
For soup, I had the Nilagang Baka but loved the Miso Soup more. I had two pots of those! I also wanted to try the Sukiyaki but I had no room for it. I also tried the Chawan Mushi beside of it.
Chinese Dimsum Station
I tried the Chicken Feet which was good and the Scallop Ball.
Mongolian Barbecue Station
Tempura and Katsu Station
Teppanyaki Station
There's Beef Teppanyaki, Yatai Isame and Tuna Teppanyaki.
Grilled Station
There's Pork Chop and tons of grilled fish variants like Ginadara and Tuna.
Baked and Skewers Station
The Pork Satay, Pork BBQ and Oyster Rockefeller was very popular among diners so I tried the out. The Pork Satay was good, Pork BBQ was tender with sweet notes but I was dissapointed with the Oyster Rockefeller. The topping was white, tasteless and felt like a flour-based. It did not taste anything like cheese nor did it have any stretchy consistency so I could hardly believe it's mozzarella cheese really.
Shabu-Shabu Station
Chinese Noodle Station
Balls Station
Chinese Station
They had a lot of Chinese dishes.
I loved the Pata Tim!
Filipino Station
I kept coming back for the Bicol Express and Kalderetang Kamabing.
Korean Station
My favorite station is the Korean Station which has a lot of good offerings like Tak Toritang (spicy chicken and potato), Ojingeo Bokkeum (stir fried calamari with Korean hot pepper paste) and Sweet and Sour Chicken. I failed to appreciate the Galbi Tang because it was not warm enough.
Western Station
There were good choices at the Western Station too like the Baby Back Ribs, Goat Kourma (spicy curried braised meat) and Beef Brisket in Creamy Peppercorn Sauce.
Pasta Station
You can make your own pasta or select from the pre-made ones.
Pizza Station
Roast Station
My favorite station is the Roast Station which has Lamb Chops, USDA Angus Beef and Turkey.
There's also Suckling Pig on the side.
Dessert Station
There's a whole chiller filled with cakes and other sweet treats. There's a counter full of whole cakes and bite-sized pastries. There's also kakanin. There's a crepe station, ice cream station and fondue station. For something healthy, there's an assortment of fruits too.
There's also a make your own halo-halo.
Drinks Station
There's a lot of Twinning's blended tea, soft drinks, ice tea, Milo and beer. You can also ask for tea bags. You can also have wine but for an additional fee.
Birthday Song and Cake
For birthday celebrants, aside from eating for free, you also have a free cake and a song. Cool treat! My friend was shy so he didn't take the song. He gave me his cake which I had too take home as I was too full too. It was a good sansrival cake.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Vikings Luxury Buffet Restaurant is definitely one of the most bang for the buck buffets in the Metro. The price is even more reasonable with their promos so I think their pricing is really tough to beat. The food quality and quantity will surely satisfy you and the service is good as well.
