The name John and Yoko Cosmopolitan Japanese simply caught my mom's attention when we went shopping at Greenbelt 5. Of course, she was born in the Beatles era where all the girls adored John Lenon.
My little sister told my mom that she has tried dining at John and Yoko before and that she loved it. My sister shared that John and Yoko Cosmopolitan Japanese is one of the restaurant owned by the actor Marvin Augustin. My mom scanned the appetizing menu of John and Yoko, she was convinced that we should try it out too.
According to the menu, it is named John and Yoko because John represented the West and Yoko represented the East.
John and Yoko Cosmopolitan Japanese offered a unique ambiance. One cannot help but to admire everything about its interiors. The style embodies artistic modern Japanese with an upbeat feel. Yet, it still possesses traditional Japanese influence through the Japanese films projected on its wall, wooden tables and chairs that had faces of Japanese historical figures.
Table set up looks authentic Japanese too |
Food
I have this belief that fusion dishes posses more creativity and uniqueness than authentic dishes which is why it arouses my curiosity to a higher level. Of course, I also see fusion dishes as a riskier endeavor. So, let's proceed shall we?
Japanized Salads on the Sunset Strip
♥ Spicy Tuna Salad (188 php) |
The Spicy Tuna Salad was surprisingly good. The spiciness is at the right level that it tickles your appetite. The chewiness of the raw tuna bits and the crunchiness of the fresh lettuce and tempura bits made the Spicy Tuna Salad sensational. I loved this!
Ginza Tapas & Big City Teasers
♥ Tofu Steak (248 php) |
The Tofu Steak was served with a mild creamy soy-based gravy topped with green peas, carrot cubes, thin beef slices and black mushroom bits. Aside from the delicious flavor, the breaded Tofu Steak had the right texture inside and out.
Salmon Dynasty (178 php) |
The Salmon Dynasty is garlic bread sprinkled with nori (seaweed) bits served with salmon and cream cheese dip. I have to admit that this dish is not so unique. But, the rich salmon taste and the cream cheese blending together was superb!
Chicken Teriyaki and Mango Pizza (258 php) |
The Chicken Teriyaki and Mango Pizza is a crispy thin pizza topped with chicken teriyaki, mango, green onion, sesame seeds and roe. It had Japanese Mayonnaise and Teriyaki sauce all over. The sweet taste of the chicken teriyaki countered by the tangy mango and Japanese mayonnaise creates a great balance for the dish.
Our Theory on Tempura & Teppanyaki
Green Chicken (268 php) |
The Green Chicken is japanese style fried chicken (Tori No Kara-age) topped with nori bits. It was served with the classic Japanese nanban sauce. Although the Green Chicken may lack creativity, it was was enjoyable because it is cooked perfectly.
♥ Oyster Overload (Japanese Rockefeller) (258 php) |
The Oyster Overload is another hit! What makes this dish Japanese is its sauce.
From the Deep Blue Sea
Salmon Wasabi Cream (338 php) |
The Salmon Wasabi Cream is pretty good. The Wasabi Cream is white sauce with a light wasabi taste. The salmon was grilled perfectly so it was soft and juicy.
The Sun Rices in The East
Japanese Fried Rice (228 php) |
John and Yoko Cosmopolitan Japanese offers the Japanese fusion at its best! Every dish that we ordered is delicious. The serving size is just right and the presentation is very good too. The price may be a bit on expensive. The taste of their unique creations justifies the cost. The servers were all courteous and friendly. I appreciate their efforts to advise us when the food takes longer to cook. Contrary to their warning, all the dishes came out quickly and the service was fast. I highly recommend John and Yoko Cosmopolitan Japanese. =)
