Casa San Pablo: Coconut Culinary Tour and Cooking San Pablo Laguna Native Dishes

When Breakfast Magazine invited the Breakfast Club for a day trip at Casa San Pablo, we Tsinoy Foodies got so excited!  We woke up early and eager like pre-schoolers on a field trip.  We left at Mc Do Vito Cruz at around 7:00 a.m. and arrived at the Casa San Pablo gates at around 9:30 a.m.

As we parked, the first thing that we caught sight on is their Lower Swimming Pool.  There were signs all over the place so you know where to go.  You can start by heading unto the Front Desk. Since Casa San Pablo is a bed and breakfast, there are a lot of houses and rooms for rent.  Each house and room is unique on its own.  I don't know about you but we Tsinoy Foodies always check for clean restrooms with a shower heater when looking for a place to stay and they have them. =D

The Coconut Culinary Tour began with an informative sit down session with An Alcantara as she shared the history of coconut plants.

We were then walked across the parcel of a coconut plantation where we were shown the types and products of a coconut.  Some of us also tried to grate the coconut.  It was an awesome experience!

After learning about the coconut, it is now time to apply them into cooking.  We proceeded to the Casa San Pablo Native Cooking School where there is a typical San Pablo Cooking area, a utensils area and an ingredients table.  There were also photos of previous students who were happily cooking.

After we were divided into 3 groups and handed our recipe cards, we watched the cooking demo so we know what to do.  We were assigned to cook three San Pablo Laguna native dishes: Adobong Manok sa Gata, Kulawo and Pinaltok.  (Comment if you want me to post the recipes as well)

Unlike the traditional Filipino adobo, the Adobong Manok sa Gata does not make use of soy sauce (toyo in Filipino).  All groups were able to cook this successfully and enjoyed its delicious flavors.

I loved the Kulawo the most among the three dishes.  It had a savory and smokey flavor contrasted by the onions. 

 Pinaltok

The Pinaltok which means to toss in their native language is similar to our Filipino ginataan.  All groups were able to make this with ease.

All of us had so much fun!  After cooking, we ate everything we made as we watched a special presentation of our culinary tour made by the Alcantaras.  All groups were great students because all our dishes were delicious!

In addition to our cooked meals, we also enjoyed their Lechon and Sotanghon Soup.

 Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Casa San Pablo offers a great new experience as you immerse on the San Pablo Laguna culture and nature.  They place is not only for families and friends but for corporate meetings and team buildings as well.  They have a reliable electricity and WiFi.  The room is cozy with a rustic feel.  The rest rooms are clean and equipped with shower heaters.  Check their website for their different packages depending on your preference.  I find their pricing to be reasonable.  Based on our experience, I'd recommend an overnight package for a holistic experience.  We found our day trip to be a bit tiring rather than relaxation.
