Riviera Cafe Dinner Buffet at The Heritage Hotel Manila

For my aunt's birthday, we were invited to eat a dinner buffet at Riviera Cafe in The Heritage Hotel Manila, a deluxe five star hotel.

As we entered, we all checked the buffet spread.  It was our first time to try the buffet at Riviera Cafe.  To be honest, I also tried to research Riviera Cafe but could not find any entries on them.  As I tried to take a photo, I found out why.  Like many other hotel buffets we've been to, they don't allow customers to take photos of their offerings because their competitors might see them.  For all the previous hotel buffets we've been to, I just let them all pass and no entry on them was ever written.  But, today, I'm in a mood to share.  (*Pardon for the photos which are only taken via Ipod Touch)

Cafe Riviera has different stations:  Asian Corner, Fresh Seafood Bar, Shabu-Shabu Station, Japanese Sushi Bar, Chinese StationPastry Section, Salad SectionCheese Station, Grilling StationSoup Station, Non-Halal Station, Fresh Fruit Station, Ice Cream Bar, and Dessert Station.

Riviera Cafe has a function room where we were accommodated.  It was elegant and cozy.

Service is really good.  We were served our drinks as soon as we were seated.  The staffs we're very friendly and accommodating.  They are keen in observing when our plates are empty and they are polite to ask for our permission before taking them.  My aunts were so happy with their service that they gave our waiters generous tips.

What I had
Appetizer
I started my dinner with some Salmon Sashimi from the Sushi Bar.  I passed over the Fresh Seafood and Chinese Station to get some appetizers.  They had the jellyfish, siomai and century egg.  I also tried several of their cheese offerings and cold cuts.  They also have a pizza.

Soup
They offered three kinds of soup.  I had the pumpkin soup while the others tried the Chinese soups.  I noticed that the soup were replenished once in awhile to ensure that they are hot.

Salad
I tried various prepared salads.  I especially enjoyed the one with the crab sticks.  They also had the make your own salad if you prefer those.

Main Course
I had some Hainanese Chicken.  I went over to the Grilling Station where I had lamb chops, beef, squid and chicken satay.  Soon enough, it was delivered to our table. This station failed to impress me, especially the lamb which had a gamey taste.  I couldn't eat it.  I tried to replace the bad impression by trying out the Chinese dishes.  They were all pretty good.

Desserts
The best part of Riviera Cafe's buffet is the dessert.  They have a lot of cake selections.  Apart from those displayed, their an entire chiller of them.  Everything is a delicious as they look.  I wanted to try more of them but I was so stuffed.  All their cakes are delicious.  All of them had the right amount of sweetness.  I also got myself an ice cream with my choice of toppings at their self-service ice cream bar.

Coffee
At the end of our meal, we had some brewed coffee.  It was a nice way to end a meal.

Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Riviera Cafe's international buffet has a wide spread of offerings.  They have a little of everything.  It's also nice to know that their meats are all halal-certified.  I noticed that they served more Chinese dishes and they are all delicious!  Riviera Cafe's desserts station is competitive in terms of selection and taste.  The price is just right.  In the league of five star hotel buffet's, their price is one of the most affordable.  The service at Riviera Cafe is great too.  The dishes were replenished as soon as they ran out too.
