Vikings Luxury Buffet: Mooncake Festival in SM Megamall

Being Tsinoy, one of our most awaited event is the Mooncake Festival.  Aside from the dice game tradition, it's the time of the year where we get to eat the mooncakes we buy mooncakes locally (from shops and specially ordered from Chinese homemakers) and imported from Hongkong, Taiwan and Singapore for a whole month.  So when Vikings Luxury Buffet invited me over to try their specially hand-crafted mooncakes, I just couldn't resist.

Hot Mooncakes
I've tried a lot of mooncakes but have never eaten them hot.  So these selections got me really excited knowing that I can't avail them anywhere else.

Beef Bourguignon Mooncake with Choron Sauce and Minced Goat Cheese Mooncake with Mango Coulis

The Minced Goat Cheese Mooncake with Mango Coulis received a lot of praise among my companions.  I was impressed with the idea of mincing the goat cheese giving it a nice grinded texture that's fun to chew.  The mild cheese flavor wonderfully complemented by the sweet mango coulis too.  The crust was thick and crumby similar to a hot empanada.
  

Beef Bourguignon Mooncake with Choron Sauce

The Beef Bourguignon Mooncake with Choron Sauce is a French-Chinese fused innovation.  I was impressed with this.  The beef bourguignon is savory and tender.  It was great on its own but its even better with the rich zesty choron sauce. 

Crusty Shrimp Cheese Mooncake and Asado Mooncake

The Crusty Shrimp Cheese Mooncake is a puff pastry filled with shrimp and cream cheese.  I loved this!  All other hot mooncakes had the same texture but this one was a puff pastry which was soft, chewy and light. 

Asado Mooncake

The Asado Mooncake surprised me because it was filled by monggo paste with a hint of asado flavor.  I was expecting asado fillings like that of a siopao.

Salted Lotus Mooncake

Salted Lotus Mooncake

 The Salted Lotus Mooncake is similar to the traditional lotus cream mooncake but this was not purely lotus cream.  As you can see, it had a sweet monggo filling first in darker color before the lotus cream in lighter brown and salted egg in the center.

Wild Berry Cheese Mooncake and Choco Trifle Mooncake

Yes! Vikings also offers dessert mooncakes.  It's also a first time I've encountered something like this.  The Wild Berry Cheese Mooncake has a very sweet sugary artifically berry flavored coating filled with a delicious cream cheese-cake-like filling.  On the other hand, the Choco Trifle Mooncake has the same kind of coating but with a rich, sweet and minty chocolate filling.
