How many time have we encountered someone carrying a box of Mister Donut? I bet countless right? Being conveniently placed at transport terminals and town mall branches, Mister Donut is one of the easiest "pasalubong" that we can buy for our loved ones.
To thank us loyal customers for embracing Mister Donut as part of our pasalubong, snacking and even meal culture for decades, Mister Donut now unboxes a new kind of fun as it comes up with surprise freebies and interesting products.
During a usual weekday workday, I have witnessed the Mister Donut team surprise me and my fellow P2P bus mates from Ayala to Trinoma with free Mister Donut Ube Cake, bottled water and a voucher for a freebie donut.
It made the hour-long traffic seemed less and more fun! My bus seat-mate who has been riding the P2P bus everyday since it was first implemented said that he was quite thrilled with the surprise. I'm told that the surprises will continue!
Since I'm in Trinoma, might as well drop by Mister Donut Cafe.
I have to admit, I'm quite partial to my classic favorite Glazed Pon De Ring (29 php) and new favorite Ube Cake (18 php).
But seeing their new Ube Collection (I've always been an Ube lover) enticed me to try their new variants which I haven't tried before.
From their Ube Collection, I tried the Ube Keso Twist (this was not rich enough for me) and Ube Smidget. I skipped the Ube Cream Sprinkles because I didn't like the candy sprinkles. I wanted to try the Ube Bavarian but I guess it was sold out as my visit was near their closing hour. I didn't like the new Ube Collection as I am still more happy with their Ube Cake in terms of the rich flavor and deliciously moist and soft cake-like consistency.
I also tried the Cookies and Cream Old Fashioned Donuts (39 php) and loved it! I now prefer that over my former third favorite - Glazed Donuts.
The family has three Mister Donut favorites: Glazed Donuts, Classic Bavarian and Minions Donuts. Since there Glazed Donuts and Minions Donuts were not available, I got them the All Time Favorite 15 (250 php).
I was intrigued by their new Miser Donut Brewzees. I've always been a fan of frappes so when I saw they had a combo for Brownie Frappe with Belgian Chocolate Wicked Puffs at a steal price of only 99 php, I just had to order one! I enjoyed the Belgian Chocolate Wicked Puffs but felt that it was more suitable with a hot drink since it was also freshly fried and warm when served. I will definitely pair it with their hot Flavored Brews next time. That's priced even cheaper at only 79 php!
The great thing about Mister Donut Cafe is that they serve meals too! I saw the other table devouring the croissantwich with glee so I got one for me to try. I didn't expect it to be crunchy as if toasted so I failed to appreciate it. I think I would have enjoyed this as a snack to be dipped in hot brewed coffee.
The Baked Cheesy Tomato Penne had the typical pinoy style spaghetti sauce blend of a delectable mix of sweet and tangy. But, I found this better because the al dente cooked penne absorbed the flavor more.
I really appreciate the fun surprise. Check out the Mister Donut branches and maybe you can unbox some fun with their surprises too!

A long time ago, our mom would leave us with our yayas to play in the playground at the center of Glorietta while she goes shopping. As much as we loved to play on the ropes and on the slides, we also loved it when our mom would come and fetch us because we would always ask her to buy us some Lil' Orbits Mini Donuts.
During that time, Krispy Kreme with its giant donut making factory has not arrived in the Philippines so my siblings and I loved watching the mini donut making machine of Lil' Orbits each time.
Years later, we outgrew the joys of a simple play time. But, we would still buy some Lil' Orbits whenever we shop there with our mom. As we grew older and we had our own errands, buying Lil' Orbits for pasalubong became a practice.
Until one day, all the food stalls in the Glorietta center moved out including Lil' Orbits. Years went by and we thought Lil' Orbits was gone forever.
Can you imagine our joy when we saw a Lil' Orbits stall at SM Mall of Asia By The Bay as we were walking our dogs? And, it even has a 3 dozen for P100 promo. We kept buying there every time eat out or walk our dog in the area. But once again, it suddenly disappeared.
One time we were in Alabang Town Center and there it was! So again we happily bought one. A few months later, we went all the way to Alabang to try Chairman Wang's. After dinner we hurried to Alabang Town Center (not to mention pay extra parking fee) just to buy a Lil' Orbits but it was once again gone!
One time I was in Market! Market! and I spotted Lil' Orbits there so I bought some. I asked the staff why oh why are their branches disappearing. And, he mentioned there was one in Taft. I was surprised as it was very near my place. I took some time to find it and I did. It is located at the back of the College of Saint Benilde but it closes at earlier than malls. It closes at around 6 pm.
Every time I could pass by early, I would buy some for the family. Everyone was thrilled whenever I bring some home.
But, the last time I bought some and watched the mini donut making process, I noticed that the oil was darker and the mini donuts came out darker as well. As, I've already paid for them, I might as well bring them home right? The family noticed the difference. In fact, they found it difficult to finish. And, so I guess that was the last time I'm buying one. And, this is were my Lil' Orbit tale ends.

Remember the fun days of trick or treating when you were a kid? Those were fun times! But, now that we're adults, things are even better. We don't need to go knocking on every door wishing for the best treats. We can just grab the good treats like J.Co Donuts & Coffee special treats for this Halloween whenever we want.
We saw them available and decided to give them a try!
The J.Co Halloween Donuts: Nutty Dracula Donut and Trapped in a Web are available for only 42 php each, 252 php for half a dozen, 380 php for one dozen and 592 php for two dozens.
The Trapped in a Web is more of the adult's donut. It is coated with chocolate tiramusi and topped with dark chocolate.
The tiramisu cream is the a great complimentary filling for the already tasty exterior.
While in terms of flavor, I prefer the Trapped in a Web, how can I resist a vampire character? In films, I'm more into the cool vampire characters like Spike (of Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Lestat de Lioncourt (of Interview With The Vampire), Damon (of Vampire Diaries), Edward Cullen (of Twilight) and even in animes I'm a fan of Zero Kiryu (of Vampire Knight), Hagi (of Blood +),
Kojou Akatsuki (of Strike the Blood) and Mosquiton of (Master Mosquiton). But, this adorable
Nutty Dracula Donut soothes my appetite more. Gotta love that big gem sized strawberry sauce eyes and chocolate hair doo and fangs.
It comes with sweet and nutty peanut butter cream filling that both kids and kids at heart will enjoy.
Grab them now as they are not immortal and will only last until November 2, 2015!

Online and offline, everyone is going nuts over the so-called cronuts that originated from New York. Have you checked the social media lately? Celebrities and probably your favorite bloggers are raving over cronuts. So last week, I finally gave in to try the new Krispy Kreme Krispy Kroissant.
I've heard of a lot of brands when it comes to cronuts. But, I opted for this one because its accessible and affordable. It's priced only at 70 php. Not bad right?
The Krispy Kreme Krispy Kroissant is available in all Krispy Kreme branches in Luzon. It is baked daily from 10 am to 2 pm so better get them as early as you can. They have four variants: Apple Cinnamon, Chocolate, Strawberry and Vanilla Cream.
The Chocolate Krispy Kroissant is topped with rich Belgian chocolate ganache and sugar. Chocoholic like me will surely be thrilled with its bitter sweet chocolate-y goodness.
The Strawberry Krispy Kroissant is a cronut topped with a rich whip of strawberry. The strawberry topping has the same sweetness and consistency as a strawberry jam.
My mom who is a fan of cinnamon loved this! The Apple Cinnamon is topped with sweet apple filling and caramelized cinnamon sugar. Although she usually complains of flavored doughnuts being too sweet, she said this one fits her preference just right.
I've mentioned before that the Krispy Kreme Original Glazed Doughnut is my classic favorite. The Vanilla Cream is a cronut dipped in their original glaze. Among the four variants, this impressed me the least. It didn't have a wow factor. And, it was too sweet for me.
The Krispy Kroissant had flaky layers similar to a croissant. I tried this as it is and also by re-heating it on the microwave. Although you can fill the layers are you bite into it, it doesn't deliver the same crispiness and flakiness of a croissant. It is soft and chewy but does not melt in your mouth like the Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.
All the variants had the same vanilla cream filling. I enjoyed the lightness of the vanilla cream. In fact, I think this is the key in balancing with the toppings making the Krispy Kroissants indulging instead of overwhelmingly sweet.
Since the Krispy Kroissants left us all with a good impression. We now have an idea of what the fuzz over cronuts is about. I can't wait to try the rest and compare them with each other.
Giveaway
After being please with our first cronut experience, I just feel like we should celebrate with a giveaway! I'm giving away Two (2) Krispy Kreme Gift Certificates to Two (2) Lucky Readers! (Available for Metro Manila residents only who can claim it via meet-up)

Well, I've heard a lot of rants about the promo but it was a really good
deal for us. Based on my little sister's experience, she lined up at Robinson's Place Padre Faura Branch
at around 4 pm and then by 5 pm they ran out of doughnuts but the
staffs were very apologetic about it and still accommodated all those
who lined up until 6 pm by letting them sign up and claim the doughtnuts
1 or 2 days after. Thus, we were able to buy a box of the Original Glazed Doughnuts for only 76 php.
Availing the 76 peso per box for Krispy Kreme's 76 years blow out a few weeks ago, reminded the us on how much we missed Krispy Kreme.
When we noticed that Krispy Kreme had two new interesting variants, as they too join the Speculoos Cookie Butter craze, we just couldn't let the chance of trying it out pass.
The Dark Chocolate Vanilla Cookie Butter has a rich belgian chocolate top layer with bits of french biscuit bits.
The combination of the rich and smooth belgian chocolate and french crisp is a great mix match of texture in every bite. But, what made me indulge in it more is the vanilla cookie butter filling that adds comfort to the its soft dough. As compared to the spread, the filling did not have the thick consistency and instead it is pretty much light like their other shelled doughnut fillings.
I like my Krispy Kreme doughnuts warm so I popped some of this in the microwave and it become even more awesome as it delivers its signature melts in your mouth sensation.
The White Chocolate Vanilla Cookie Butter is a shell doughnut dipped in white chocolate and topped with Belgium chocolate chips and caramel crunch.
The White Chocolate Vanilla Cookie Butter is sweeter than the Dark Chocolate Vanilla Cookie Butter due to its white chocolate coating and toppings. I guess that is the reason why I've always been an advocate of dark chocolate than the white ones. I enjoyed the chocolate chips but the caramel crunch bits were hardly noticeable.
The Original Glazed Doughnuts is still my favorite! Nothing can beat the classic. I always add in these in every box. But, I'm want to try their other variants like the Salted Caramel too.

A few weeks ago, I spotted the new Go Nuts Donuts Cookie Butter Donut while chilling out at their Market Market branch.
It's been awhile since I took home some donuts for afternoon snack (merienda) so I thought the new Cookie Butter Donuts would be a great option.
Looking through the chiller, it was the first one to catch my attention especially since the Specloos Cookie Butter craze has spread all over the social media like a wildfire and yet, I havn't tried it.
Upon ordering, it was prepared quick and reliably.
When I reached home, everyone was excited since I rarely bring home goodies these past few months. As we opened the box, we saw the Cookie Butter Donuts still in the perfect condition with its nice presentation. Well, some part stuck on the box, but I scraped them clean too because its really good! =)
My family has always opt for the classic Amazing Glaze because they find the other flavors too sweet. At first, they where expecting this to be sweet. But, upon first bite, everyone of them gave a thumbs up for approval. It didn't even take long before everyone had their second share. I love how the flavorful gingerbread taste and smooth creaminess of the Speculoos Cookie Butter has fused wonderfully with the Amazing Glaze beneath it. As I was impressed with Go Nuts Donuts' Pizza Donuts before, this innovative creation has made me a fan. I wonder what products Go Nuts Donuts will come up with next!

Ever since J Co. Doughnuts & Coffee has arrived in Manila, I've been eager to try it out. I've read a lot of feedbacks about it from fellow food bloggers.
Upon entering J Co. Doughnuts & Coffee Megamall Branch, I found myself instantaneously enticed with their doughnuts as they were displayed on long glass trays.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
J Co. Doughnuts & Coffee serves a good variety of delightful donuts. The texture of the donuts are superb even until the next day. They are so soft and pleasurably chewy. Since they have a lot of choices, I'm sure you'll find one that will fit to your liking. I like that their flavors are not too sweet. My family loved this too so I think I'll be buying more of these for the family in the future.
So, what's you favorite variant? Convince me to try those next!
Opposite the doughnut counter is the beverage section which I didn't get to check because I was in a hurry.
Food
I initially intended to order the J Pops because I wanted to try as many flavors as I could but it was unavailable. So, I settled for the 1/2 regular sized J. Co donuts instead.

Oreology, Mc Green Tea and Alcapone |
- Oreology
The Oreology is topped with oreo bits with three oreo cream lines. Since I'm a big fan of Oreo, I enjoyed this very much.
- Mc Green Tea
The Mc Green Tea is green tea with almond bits on top. This had a strong green tea cream which was not too sweet at all. The almond bits adds a good crunch to it and at the same time, neutralizes the creaminess.
- Alcapone
The Alcapone is my favorite. It is almond cream with almond bits. It had a mild flavor that makes it simply delightful.

Coco Loco, Heaven Berry and Tiramisu |
- Coco Loco
Although I am a chocoholic, I am not fond of chocolate doughnuts because I usually find them too sweet for my taste. But, to my surprise the Coco Loco is topped with bitter sweet and smooth dark chocolate. This is definitely the best chocolate doughnut I've tried yet.
- Heaven Berry
The Heaven Berry is a taste of mixed berries dominantly a mix of strawberries and raspberry. It was good enough but its not something I'd crave for.
- Tiramisu
The Tiramisu is the sweetest among all I've tried. But, it had a light creme in the middle that's a great contrast to the sweetness.
