Lido Cocina Tsina Now Open at Radiance Manila Bay (Roxas Boulevard Manila)

There are many reasons to dine out.  For my family, what really draws us to eat out is convenience.  On a lazy day, we usually just find some place near home to enjoy a hearty meal.  So if you're nearby the area, you'd be as happy as we are to have a new option with  the opening of Lido Cocina Tsina at Radiance Manila Bay.

Annam Noodle Bar: Now Open at the Newport Mall Resorts World Manila

I've always wanted to try Annam Noodle Bar but their pioneer branch is located in Eastwood City.  That makes it inconvenient to visit when you're coming from the South side like me.  So, I was so thrilled to be invited to the opening of their second branch at the Newport Mall Resorts World Manila.

annam noodle bar
Annam Noodle Bar also known as NamNam Noodle Bar in Singapore offers fresh and quality food almost without MSG (95%).

annam noodle bar
I arrived just in time for the ribbon cutting.

annam noodle bar
Soon, everyone was allowed to enterThe diner gives off a casual feel with a mixture of modern and traditional Vietnamese influence.

Beside the bar, they have this section where you can watch as chefs prepare your Banh Mi and buns.

They also sell some food products like noodles and sauces.

Food
Now let's get on with their food offerings...

Small Plates
banh bao buns
Banh Bao Buns (250 php)
The Banh Bao Buns is a must try!  The soft and succulent caramelized pork belly perfectly matches the hard boiled egg and scallions.

pomelo salad
Pomelo Salad (280 php)
To balance the savoriness of the meat dishes and to refresh your palette, the sweet and sour flavors of the
Pomelo Salad is an excellent choice.

Hanoi Pho
beef pho
Pho Australian Beef Steak Slices (340 php)
Of course, ordering some pho is on top of your list when dining at Annam.  The classic Pho Australian Beef Steak Slices is superb!

pho beef balls

If you like more variety, there's also the Pho Australian Beef Steak Slices & Beef Balls as well as other variants.

Other Noodles
bun cha hanoi
Bun Cha Hanoi (360 php)
Aside from pho, they also have other noodle dishes such as the Bun Cha Hanoi.  It has 2 kinds of pork and a prawn roll, veggies, noodles and a sweet, tangy and savory sauce.

Fragrant Rice

Crispy Fried Tumeric Chicken (340 php)
The Crispy Fried Tumeric Chicken was an odd twist for me.  What I liked about this meal is the fragrant rice itself.

beef brisket
Twice Cooked Australian Beef Brisket (390 php)
I also failed to appreciate the Twice Cooked Australian Beef Brisket because the beef was a bit tough and dry.

Bahn Mi
banh mi
Chili- Lemongrass  Chicken, Fried Egg and Pork Floss (250 php)
What I cannot get over at Annam is their Banh MiThe Chili- Lemongrass Chicken, Fried Egg and Pork Floss is a huge hit among us.  The texture of the buns is superb.  The chicken is so soft and juicy.  And, I loved that they don't scrimp on liver pate which brings a superb savoy and umami flavor to the sandwich overall.

Viet Desserts
annam dessert
Trio of Crispy Netted Rolls (200 php)
We enjoyed the Trio of Crispy Netted Rolls as a meal ender.  We are used to our local turon filled with banana and jackfruit, but their version has jackfruit, cassava and sweet potato.  I just wished there's more coconut sauce.

pineapple jackfruit cocktail
Pineapple-Jackfruit Cocktail (200 php)
The Pineapple-Jackfruit Cocktail is another first for me.  I suggest you order this for sharing.  The sweet and citrus flavors is quite comforting.

Beverages

You can't go wrong with any of their Beverages.  All of them are visually appeal and so delicious too!  I hope to try their coffee on my next visit.  (Yes! Since Annam is now closer to home, I can keep coming back Pho more!

Gabe's Homegrown Dishes: Hidden Gem for Malabon Specialty and the Best Halo Halo (Katipunan)

Ever since I was invited by the Malabon Government to try their Malabon Food Trip Special, I have been a huge fan of Malabon's specialties.  So when I heard about Gabe's Homegrown Dishes, I was very intrigued.

See if you can spot Gabe's Homegrown Dishes signage

Because I am usually guided by Google Maps or Waze, I easily found Gabe's.  But if you're simply a passerby, Gabe's signage may be a bit unnoticeable.

Gabe's is found on the second floor.  It is the first establishment you'll see

gabe's homegrown dishes
Gabe's is a cool and comfort haven with a loft and some games and reading materials.

gabe's homegrown dishes
I can't believe they have my one of my favorite games as a student.  I used to have a lot of those Super Trump decksAside from those, I even had helicopters, planes and more.

gabe's homegrown dishes
They got creative with their dining area by pairing the small wooden tables with chairs and lettered stools

There were also toy displays.

Seems they are Starwars fans too just like my family.

I wanted to leave a feedback but the wall is full of more hearty comments already.

Food
So let's get on with the food which I have to rave about.

Appetizers
pinoy cheese sticks
Pinoy Cheese Sticks (80 php)
Starting with something so familiar since my childhood: Pinoy Cheese Sticks.  This is great for sharing and the local tuhog-tuhog style makes it even more fun.

Main Entrees
lengua
Lengua (250 php/good for sharing)
The Lengua is so good!  This has a bold fragrant garlic flavor that complements the creamy sauce and the very tender pork and beef tongue.   I highly recommend pouring the sauce over your rice.  Do that and I bet one cup of rice won't be enough for you.

tinumis
Tinumis (90 php)
At home, we cook the traditional version and Ilocano version (dinardaraan) of dinuguanLater on, I discovered that Pampanga has it's own version too called Tidtad Babi.   I didn't know that Malabon has its own version of dinuguan too.  The Tinumis is lighter in sour taste compared to other dinuguan I've tried.

tinumis
Tinumis (90 php)
And, this Tinumis is very chunky with innards.  I also liked that it wasn't soaking in oil because there it isn't dominated by fatty parts.

Noodles/Pasta
pancit malabon
Pancit Malabon (100 php)
The Pancit Malabon is rich in ingredients but the sauce is light-tasting so it may not be enough for some.  On the bright side, the serving size is huge for the price.

Desserts
Halo Halo (100 php)
What I really loved at Gabe's is their Halo Halo.  I've always felt ripped off when paying 100 bucks for mostly milk and ice at Razon's.  So I was really impressed that Gabe's Halo Halo has so many ingredients.  It even beats the pricey halo halo of Halo Halo de Iloko Balay of La Union.  And, it also beats our homemade version which until this time is the best in terms of variety!  Their homemade Ube is so fine and creamy. Their homemade Leche Flan is flawlessly smooth and melts-on-your-mouthThe shaved ice is so crisp and crunchy just like that of Razon's.

pancit malabon
Halo Halo (100 php)
You can even share their Halo Halo because it really heavily loaded!  For the price, it's a steal.  I will definitely recommend this to be a halo-halo stop when in the area.

Beverages
lemonade
Lemonade (65 php)
Their affordable Lemonade is perfect for the summer!  Not only is this a nutritious thirst quencher, it goes well with any of their dishes too.

Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
I can't think of a place like Gabe's Homegrown Dishes.  The price is so affordable and easy on the pocket.  They offer specialty dishes like no other.  The service is superb.  I'm very impressed with our server Naomi who is very familiar with the history and ingredient of this dish.  For those in the area, you should try this place!  They offer delivery within Quezon City and Eastwood City and they also offer party packages so just inquire.
