Chewy Junior is actually a franchise from Singapore.  Unlike other cream puffs, Chewy Junior offers a cream puff that's crispy on the outside and chewy in the inside.


There Chewy Junior in Greenbelt 3 is located just beside Greenbelt 3 Cinemas.  It's a small store with Chewy Junior Cream Puffs displayed on its see through window shelves.

Since Chewy Junior is crispy on the outside, it is fun to eat because every bite comes with a crunch.  On the other hand, the chewiness of the inside makes the cream puff a bit heavier than the usual cream puffs.  It feels like eating chewy buns with fillings.


Despite having topping variations, the regular flavors basically have four types of fillings: Vanilla Fillings, Chocolate Fillings, Cream Cheese and Peanut Butter Cream.  If you want it simple, you'd better go with those with Vanilla Fillings.  The Chocolate Fillings is recommended for chocolate lovers who have a sweet tooth.  The Peanut Butter Cream is quite unique for a cream puff and it's a must try.  Among their fillings, the Cream Cheese is the best!  It's not unique, tasty and not too sweet.

Happy Lemon: Lemon and Milk Tea Unique Variations at Promenade

Alive especially at night with its movie theatre, arcade, restaurants and bars is Greenhills promenade.  Among the popular establishments therein is the pioneer branch of Happy Lemon. Happy Lemon originated from China and was franchised by the famous Smart Gilas basketball player Chris Tiu and his friends.   

Happy Lemon has a cozy and modern interior, which makes it a good place to hang out and chit chat with friends.  However, since its usually crowded during the night time, its not the ideal place to hang out to read a book, work or study.   

Lemon Honey with Seaweed Jelly (large P80)  ♥Green Tea with Rock Salt and Cheese (large P90)

The Green Tea with Rock Salt and Cheese is one of their best sellers.  Its best drank by drinking directly from the glass without using the straw.  Initially, you will taste the salty creamy foam of the rock salt and cream cheese on top of your green tea.  It will then be followed by the bitter taste of green tea.  As you drink, the cheese will no longer be as strong as your initial sip and you will get to appreciate the green tea more.  

The Lemon Honey with Seaweed Jelly is your typical honeyed lemonade with their seaweed jelly.  The seaweed jelly is fun and enjoyable to eat.

Lemon Yogurt w/ Aloe (large 90php), ♥Lemon Peppermint / Nata de Coco (large 80php), Roasted Milk Tea w/ Black Pearl Sago (large 90php)

The Lemon Yogurt w/ Aloe combines the sour flavor of lemonade and a mild tangy taste of yogurt.  It  actually turned out to be pretty good especially with the aloe.  


The Lemon Peppermint / Nata de Coco is actually a unique and refreshing twist!  It's really good.  If you don't feel like having tea, order this drink instead.


The Roasted Milk Tea w/ Black Pearl Sago was the least creative option and the taste was also nothing special.  However, if you prefer the classic milk tea, then you should try their version.


They have so many more variations to offer that we have yet to try out!  How about you what's your favorite Happy Lemon drink?

Among the many establishments in Tomas Morato, there is a humble ice cream place that offers FREE WiFi called Paradis Natural Ice Cream.  The interiors are cozy enough to hang out and chill or have a simple meeting with friends.

Whether its the Chili Chocolate with Saffron or the Wasabi, their ice cream is too sweet and rich for my taste. The Chili Chocolate with Saffron was thicker in texture than the wasabi.  It was almost eating ice cream with bitter-sweet chocolate syrup.  We appreciate the slight spiciness of the chili though.  It was a great contrast to the strong chocolate flavor.  

The Wasabi was very rich in flavor that after eating a couple of spoonfuls, you would be overwhelmed by the strong wasabi taste.  It was actually difficult to finish a cup.

Soybet Ice Cream

♥ Strawberry Soybet (95 php)

The Strawberry Soybet is delicious!  It was lightly sweetened and refreshing.  It's not as liquid as the normal sorbet and not thick like an ice cream either.  It's somewhere in between.  In terms of the taste, you probably won't guess that its made out of soy.  

Overall, their serving size is good but the price is too expensive.  It's good that they offer a FREE taste so you can decide the flavor you want to order.  However, it would be great if they offer a combination of flavors in a cup because with their rich flavors, its difficult for one to finish it.

In the midst of the busy commercial plants and residences in Otis Paco, you can find Robinson's Otis.  Aside from the Robinson's supermarket, Robinson's Otis offers a lot of dinning place selections such as "The Old Spaghetti House" or TOSH for short.  It's a causal dinning place with a brick house ambiance perfect for a family meal together or a gathering with friends.

Appetizer

Appetizer Basket (210 php)

The Appetizer Basket contains three items listed in their appetizer menu.  It includes the Calamares (Only comes with a mayo dip though), Chicken Fingers and Onion Rings.  Its the best option to order when you're dinning with a group as everyone has their own preference or when you have yet to try out their appetizer varieties.

Spaghetti

♥Seafood Marinara (195 php)

Their Seafood Marinara is marked as their best seller in "The Old Spaghetti House" menu.  is rich in seafood ingredients that adds flavor to the natural tomato taste of the red sauce.  The pasta is cooked perfectly making the noodles enjoyable to eat.

Gambasetti  (195 php)

The Gambasetti is another one of their best sellers.  This dish is filled with shrimp and tomato chunks.

Pasta Meals

♥Eggplant Parmigiana w/ Penne Pomodoro (165 php)

Not only is the Eggplant Parmigiana w/ Penne Pomodoro a healthy choice, it is also very delicious!  This is one of our favorites at TOSH.

U.S. Beef Bistro Steak w/ Parmesan Spaghetti  (245 php)

If you're a meat lover, they also serve the U.S. Beef Bistro Steak w/ Parmesan Spaghetti.  They also ask you're steak preference when you order.  The spaghetti is served plain with no other sauce than gravy.  Thus, the spaghetti is eaten like rice.  Every bite of steak is best eaten with the spaghetti.  There is nothing special about this dish but the experience of eating steak with spaghetti. 

Cool Sips

Java Mocha (99 php)

This Java Mocha taste like sugar milk!  It made my throat sore and yet I failed to appreciate the mocha taste.

♥Match Green Tea (99 php)

The Match Green Tea is delicious!  Love the rich green tea taste complemented by the cool creamy sensation.  I will certainly order this again.

Dessert

♥New York Cheese Cake (210 php)

As stated in their menu, the New York Cheese Cake is imported from the Cheesecake Factory in the US.  This is a must order in every visit!

Strawberry Funnel Cake w/ Cream (110 php)

The Strawberry Funnel Cake w/ Cream is okay but not as good as the cheesecake.  The sweet and heavy strawberry syrup, lightly sweetened cream and the funnel cake goes well together.  

Overall, you can expect consistency in the taste and texture of Tosh's pasta whichever branch you dine.  Noticeable in this branch though it the poor and slow service.  There is only one server for the entire restaurant so it was difficult for him to cope with the demand.

San Marino Tuna Recipes

When we're hungry and need a quick meal or snack, we usually hit our shelves for either canned goods or instant noodles giving it the same old taste.  Why couldn't we spend a few more minutes and try to experiment on canned tuna instead to make it somewhat a real meal?  There are numerous possibilities using canned tuna.

One of the healthiest canned food I could find is tuna.  The main benefit of eating tuna is its omega-3 fatty acid which helps in lowering the risk of heart disease, helps with arthritis pains, decrease asthma complications and tons of preventions (Alzheimer, Cardiovascular Disease, Cancer).  Did I already mention that fish is considered a brainfood for children?   

Now, you probably want to try out some of the dishes yourself so let me share some recipes.

San Marino Tuna Paella with Chili Prawns

Ingredients:

1 can San Marino Tuna Paella

1 tbsp Canola

1 cup of Thinly Sliced Onions

1 tbsp Crushed Garlic

1 tsp Grated Ginger

3 tsp Oregano

1 tsp Chopped Red Chillies (No Seeds)

6 pcs Medium Sized Prawns, Peeled and Deveined (add salt and pepper if preferred)

3 tbsp Coriander, Chopped

Juice of one lemon

Procedure:

1. Using a large pan, heat the oil and stir fry onions, garlic, ginger for 4-5 mins. Add in the prawns, oregano, and chillies. Cook until the prawns turn pink and cooks through.
2. Season with salt and pepper. Put in the coriander and lemon juice. Mix and remove from heat. Serve immediately on top of San Marino Tuna Paella.

San Marino Corned Tuna Italian Sandwich

Ingredients:

2 cans San Marino Corend Tuna (180g)

4 pcs Italian Bread or Baguette

1 1/2 cup of Bottled Italian Style Paste Sauce

1 Bottle Italian Dressing

1 pc Large Red Onions (Sliced)

1 pc Salad Tomato (Sliced)

1/2 Head of Lettuce

Fresh Basil

Parmesan Cheese

Mild Cheddar Cheese

Salt 

Pepper

Procedure:

1. Combine San Marino Corned Tuna with Italian Pasta Sauce and Mix Well season with Salt and Pepper.
2. Toss Red Onions, Lettuce, Fresh Basil,and Tomato with Italian Dressing then season with Salt and Pepper.
3. Top with Cheese and Server.

Breakfast at Log Cabin in Sagada

Although Log Cabin is famous for their Saturday Buffet's cooked by their French-native Chef Aklay, who has worked and lived in 27 countries before he decided to live in Sagada.  We didn't have a chance to drop by Sagada on a Saturday so we chanced upon their breakfast offerings which is only available during the Holy Week to cater to the influx of tourists.

Two home-made sausages, fried egg, wheat bread and native coffee (160 php)

Their breakfast menu is limited.  Its either omelette or home-made sausages.

Since they ran out of home-made sausages due to the Holy Week rush, they substituted the other sausage with a Potato Rosti.  Their home-made sausage is pretty good.  The Potato Rosti was okay.  Their wheat bread is tastier than other wheat breads I've tried.  

Although the breakfast meal is good.  It was nothing extraordinary.  Hopefully, we'll get to visit them again and try their Saturday buffet.

ChickChat: Delicious Singaporean Fast Food (CLOSED)

A newly opened Singaporean Fast Food at SM Manila is Chickchat.  Unlike other fast food and restaurants that are found at the ground floor and basement of SM Manila, we were surprised to find Chickchat on the second floor right across SM Appliance center.  

UPDATE: This is now closed (as of June 2012)

Chickchat SM Manila

Chickchat has a happy and colorful modernistic ambiance that makes you feel cozy and comfortable as you dine.  Friendly staffs greet you as your enter.  Upon ordering at their counter, staffs even suggest their recommended dishes.  As you glance on their menu, you'd be surprised at how affordable their dishes are.  Whether its chicken, pasta or salad, an entire meal is at most 150 php.  They're merienda meals are even cheaper.  A great selection for less than 50 php.

Food

Cereal Chicken (1 pc.) (79 php)

If there's Singapore's famous Cereal Prawns, well there's also ChickChat's specialty Cereal Chicken.   A bite in their Cereal Chicken covered in crispy oatmeal unleashes the tender juicy chicken meat inside.  This comes with Hainanese Chicken Rice.   The rice is so delicious you can eat rice alone!  It had a fragrant taste of pandan and chicken broth.

Spicy Chicken Paoger 

The name Spicy Chicken Paoger made me wonder what paoger meant and then it hit me.  "Pao" means buns in Chinese and the "ger" must be a shortened word for burger.  So wrapped between the two buns, they are chicken tenders, onion rings, carrot and radish strings and lettuces.  Unlike the traditional burger that contains only mayonnaise, the Spicy Chicken Paoger is seasoned with curry sauce and mayonnaise.
Allthough Spicy Chicken Paoger is spicy but not too much so that you can appreciate all the flavors together.

Spicy Chicken Paoger w/ BBQ Fries (136 php)

The Spicy Chicken Paoger comes with BBQ Flossy Fries.  So how to make french fries Singaporean oriented?  Well, Chickchat defined their own version of BBQ french fries by adding meat floss.

Singaporean Chicken Rice (108 php)

Their Singaporean Chicken Rice is a must try!  The chicken is so tender and tasty, it is so deliciously addicting with or without sauce.  When coupled with their fragrant rice, you just can't stop eating more and more!  For its price, this is the best bang for the buck meal ever!

Beef Bolognese (79 php)

Their Beef Bolognese is one of the best you can get from a fast food restaurant.  The taste similar to Pancake House Spaghetti but with its own unique twist.  


Drinks

Red Iced Tea (38 php) and Lemon Green Iced Tea (38 php)

Aside from the ordinary soft drinks, Chickchat offers Red Iced Tea and Lemon Green Iced Tea.  The Red Iced Tea are for those who prefer a sweet drink while the Lemon Green Iced Tea is light and refreshing.

If you enjoy eating buffalo wings, then you'll love the Honey Baked Wings.  The fact that these wings are baked makes them healthier than fried buffalo wings and its less greasy too.  Its sweetened by honey that not only add flavor but makes it smell good too.


Dessert

Ube Pandan Sundae (30 php)

The Ube Pandan Sundae is a perfect combination of Ube and Pandan flavors.  What I love about this cold treat is that it's not too sweet so its light and refreshing to eat and enjoy. 

Buko-Melo-Mango (65 php)

Buko-Melo-Mango

The Buko-Melo-Mango is a rich blend of healthy ingredients such as coconut strips, pomelo strips, mango syrup and coconut milk.  Of course, all the toppings are mixed in shaved ice to make it iciliciously good!  


Overall, everything seems delicious in Chickchat.  Whatever order you decide, you're sure to be in good hands.  Chickchat is one of the best fast food restaurants around!  You should definitely try it.  It offers generous servings and quality food.
